I don't even know if it's a specialty drug or just a new brand name drug. It's Savella, which is technically for fibro but we're going off label. My doc says more than half his patients he gives it to can't tolerate it, because it makes them so nauseous they can't eat. (So far so good for me.) But for the few it helps the results are breathtaking. I'll try just about anything at this point. I'm trying to avoid a 5 day hospital stay for ketamine. But at the same time, I want to preserve what function I have left in my left hand while I can. :)

       :ph34r:Savella

Proceed with caution!

That is the wonder drug that the Fibromyalgia Expert at UCSD trialed on me when I was dx'd Fibro 7 months after Celiac Diagnosis.

Was to titrate up in thirds....

did not make it past the first third

Of course no meds have ever worked properly in this f$#%ed up system o' mine.

Hope it works for you...but do be careful.

Adalaide Mentor

Oh, I'm aware of how awful this drug is. Could make me sicker than a dog. Could cause liver damage. Could do this, that or some other crap. And yet, my next best option is a ketamine treatment. I'm willing to throw as much crap at the barn wall as I can to see if any will stick before going to ketamine. If Savella is scary, the type of ketamine treatment I would get is the stuff of nightmares.

Going to California Pizza Ktichen!

Going to California Pizza Ktichen!

Hah, I started something. lol

I almost went there but I love the pizza down at Malawi's and wanted to try again. Turns out my husband's favorite local pizza joint closed. Tragic because they had the best pizza in Utah. At least he has lots of options though and found something he liked.

Adalaide Mentor

Oh, I was gonna say we stopped by the grocery store and picked up a 12 pack of Vanilla Cream soda. (generic store brand, but it's incredibly good) Since we don't drink we're calling this our beer and pizza night.

Pizza all around....

Went for a 2 hour drive to get the only gluten free pizza I can have, the ones I make myself are really not that good.  We got four pizzas all together.  One for daughter-in-law (taco pizza), one for me (ground beef and green olives) 1 for Hubs (pepperoni and green olives) and brought one home for my son.

Jealous! I watched the fam eat crawfish étouffée while I fight some cc (I guess since I can't find a source). Once this passes, PIZZA it is!!

I really want to try the california pizza kitchen now that they do gluten-free right.  Do they use the same prebought crust as a lot of other places?  The closest one is an hour away by m rheumatologists office, and I go monday, so I will probably go in and eat if I have time.

I don't know where they get the crust.  I think  all CPKs get the same crust.  I know some chains buy crusts or buns locally.  I think the crust is pretty good for a gluten-free crust.  There are only 4 choices - pepperoni, Margarita, BBQ chicken & spinach and mushroom.  I think you can also get a regular cheese pizza, too.

Adalaide Mentor

Made mint jelly today with chocolate mint. So good! What I want for supper is to eat toast and jelly until I'm sick, but I don't think that is a reasonable plan. So, sticking with the original plan, we'll have a pork tenderloin and some sort of veggie type objects. Maybe I'll see if I can find a salad on sale.

Today I am making pizza for dinner.  I think my husband didn't get a real lunch break so he will probably woof it down!

NatureChick Rookie

Just tried making a fake pizza last night using a gluten-free tortilla as the crust. It certainly wasn't pizza as I remember it but it was super easy, and the tortilla wasn't so bad because I really don't like gluten-free bread of any type. Because it was thin, I didn't notice the flavor so much.

The best part was that it only took about 10 minutes from the time I started to being able to eat, despite that the tortilla started out frozen. Add some spaghetti sauce and some grated cheese, seven minutes in the oven (375), and I was eating - so rare to have a quick meal these days.

I will definitely do this again, but am kicking myself for not adding some black olives or bell pepper, both of which I have in the house, though it would have added 5-10 minutes to my prep time.

I think the only downside is that the "crust" is so thin that you pretty much have to eat it with a knife and fork.

Last night I had - salmon with mango salsa, garlic whipped potatoes & asparagus * a flourless macadamia brownie.  Guess where I went?  :D

OOh! OOH I know! I know!!

I love Bonefish grille !! We went Saturday....chilean sea bass with mango salsa, jasmine rice and their new side which was a zucchini/tomato ratatouille type thing (glad they dumped the chickpea thing). The server was great. She asks "want me to check and make sure that's gluten-free? the district manager is back there."... well, sure. thanks so much .... and please bring me another Bombay Sapphire on the rocks with olives on your way back, you sweet girl. :)

I skipped the creme brulee this time (I know what am I nutz?)

Our Bonefish has told me twice that that zuchinni thing isn't gluten-free. The waiter last night said it probably is but this kitchen is probably over careful about things that aren't on the gluten-free menu. A bit lazy at thinking for themselves, maybe? That's Ok. I LOVE asparagus!

I do too. I would probably eat asparagus every day if i could lol.... but she said the asparagus was "very thick and chewy tonight"...lol..

I appreciated her honesty. I would never venture off the gluten-free menu myself, but she guaranteed it was after checking in the kitchen with the big guns

people--and I had no issues with it.

I'm trying to dump some lbs...and the hubs sends me this. (he is "ice cream man"--our friends gave him  that nickname lol)

He makes me laugh. He thinks he is giving me a subliminal hint to break out the ice cream maker. Subtle eh?

We have a great vanilla bean ice cream recipe that can be a base for 'add-ins", but this looks good too.

Just sharing the idea....especially for those who need some fatter  butt cheeks.

ADDY...here's a way to use up some of that mint! ;)

And let me be the first to say:.

My husband just had shingles going on 7 weeks now. We had been putting Vaseline on the blisters and lidocaine cream and he was prescribed an antiviral.  Also he still has the nerve pain it was bad and is getting better it is his upper left torso. His dr prescribed gabapentin 300mg 3x a day and he's also taking naproxen 500ng 2x a day and tylenol 1000mg every 6 hrs. Hope this helps  The lidocaine cream is by tylenol and is available in a large tube on Amazon or at Walmart

What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein bar to fill and play it safe.

Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.
