I think this sounds like a wonderful idea. Before hand, you could have an agenda of topics to discuss and then make a date for the chat. What a fun way to meet other members, too :)

It's kind of like yahoo messenger. You can talk live in real time kinda like talking on the phone, but instead just online with us folks here on the website.

I remember doing that once on a trivia game site. It was full of 12 year old boys typing "penis" and " show us your boobs". Our chat room would be more highbrow with discussions about gas and poop. :P

:P Hopefully we wouldn't be that childish but thinking about discussing poo and gas just has me cracking up.

I used to be paranoid to read the forum because I thought it WAS a chat room!! I'm not that tech savvy and I didn't know the difference between a forum and a chat room...Probably gluten paranoia had me back then, but I ain't scared of y'all no more....so I'd be in!

Me too...wine..or whine - whatever.. and cathartic venting.. or psillie pstuff. I think a chat room would be very fun and helpful too.

Chat rooms can be a pain. I used to run one. It was fine for a while, then the kids found it. I didn't have the time to babysit it all the time.

As I see it there are two options. Make it for registered users only or have moderators around the clock.

Also free chat rooms seem to be hard to come by these days. But you never know. Maybe it could happen.

I know some of the forums come with chatroom software. Not sure if this one does. When I ran a graphics forum, there was an option to have a chatroom which we sometimes used. The only way a person could get access was by being a member of the forum so we did not have the worry of outside people coming in.

I fully support the idea of a chat room! just give some trusted users admin ish power to make sure none of these penis happy children get into it!

Hi Everyone,

Although I am not sure at this point whether I will be able to add in a chat feature, did you know that you can add your chat info into your personal profile, then connect with other users who do the same and are online? For example, in your profile area you can add the following type of accounts:

AIM

MSN

Website URL

ICQ

Yahoo

Jabber

Skype

and then you can connect to others vie live IM chat who have also put in their info...just a thought. Basically live IM chat requires a large amount of server resources, and most of the larger internet companies give these services away for free now, so perhaps you can test it out and let us know how it goes?

I'm thinking even if we couldn't have an open time 24/7 to chat, perhaps a scheduled time every week?! I think it would be great to be able to chat real time!!

Don't need scott to set one up. You can download an IRC client (mIRC for you windows users) and join/create a chat room on any of several dozen IRC (Internet Relay Chat) networks. I looked around a couple years ago when I was first DX and was really surprised that there was no #celiac or #glutenfree on EFNet. I used to help OP several singles chat rooms years ago. When I was single. :)

Yes, and on top of this if you go into your personal profile for this forum you can enter your gmail, yahoo, msn, etc., instant message info and then you can connect with whomever you like via live chat, as long as they have also entered their info.

      Airborne Gluten?

      Hello everyone, I was on here a few months ago trying to figure out if I was reacting to something other than gluten, to which a very helpful response was that it could be xanthin or guar gum. Since then, I have eaten items with both of those ingredients in it and I have not reacted to it, so my mystery reaction to the Digiorno pizza remains...

      Rectal pain

      I was suffering from PF just previous to being dx with celiac disease about 25 yr. ago but have not been troubled with it since. Not sure what the connection between the two is of if there is one. But I do know it is a very painful condition that takes your breath away when it strikes.

      I have dealt with proctalgia fugax on and off for a year now. It feels almost paralyzing during an episode and they have started lasting longer and longer, sometimes 20+ minutes. I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and wonder if the 2 are related. I did request a prescription for topical nitroglycerin for my PF episodes and that has helped tremendously...

      Hey @Butch68, I also have dermatitis herpetiformis but don't suffer from it anymore. I used to drink Guinness too but I drink Cider now when out on social occasions.       I’m wondering if anyone has had any experience with the gluten challenge. My teenager completed a gluten challenge over the summer, it ended up being 10 weeks although she stopped being consistent eating gluten after 6. Her previous endoscopy was negative but this past August it was positive after the gluten challenge. If you have done the gluten challenge, how long did it take you to feel back to normal? It took about two months before she got “glutened” again but now she’s having difficult coming back from that and has a lot of fatigue. I’m hoping someone has some advice!

      Hello everyone, I was on here a few months ago trying to figure out if I was reacting to something other than gluten, to which a very helpful response was that it could be xanthin or guar gum.    Since then, I have eaten items with both of those ingredients in it and I have not reacted to it, so my mystery reaction to the Digiorno pizza remains.    HOWEVER, I realized something recently- the last time I got glutened and the most recent time I got glutened, I truly never ate anything with gluten in it. But i did breathe it in.    The first time was a feed barrel for my uncle’s chickens- all of the dust came right up, and most of what was in there was wheat/grains. The second time was after opening a pet food bag and accidentally getting a huge whiff of it.    When this happens, I tend to have more neurological symptoms- specifically involuntary muscle spasms/jerks everywhere. It also seems to cause migraines and anxiety as well. Sometimes, with more airborne exposure, I get GI symptoms, but not every time.    My doctor says he’s never heard of it being an airborne problem, but also said he isn’t well versed in celiac specifics. I don’t have the money for a personal dietician, so I’m doing the best I can.    is there anyone else who has experienced this, or gets similar neurological symptoms?
