Warn Status

It's really been bugging me that I got a warning, and I have no idea what I did wrong. The only thing I can think of is, I might of posted in the wrong area of the forum. I don't have good vision, and I'm also dyslexic, and I know I have problems getting my words, format, and sequencing right when writing. I am sorry for that, but I do the best I can. It's just that a warning for all to see is seems a bit extreme for anything I could of done, and is also very embarrassing.

Only you and the mods can see any warnings that might have been issued. You have none, so relax. I don't see that you have done anything wrong.

ETA: If you had a warning, it would show up as a green bar in the "Warn Status" area and you would have been notified exactly why the warning was issued.

Everyone has a warn bar. Some have some green filling in the bar. Look at everyones posts and you cannot see the warn bar. If you wonder what everyone can see, look at another posters info. That's the info they can see on you.

If you post in the wrong place, we will move it to the right place if we catch it.

Does warn status ever get reduced? How, when? Like I mean, after a certain stretch of time without any further infractions, you go back to zero? Or are we flagged forever and can never improve our standing around here?

(I too was warned, being new and not having intended to break *any* rules -- and I feel that I am being treated very harshly and unfairly.)

Consider it a reminder. Different forums have different rules; the one that most people miss here is 'don't promote your blog site'. Now when you log in you'll easily see that you have a reminder in your warn status and remember that this is a "no blog zone".

Since there are no repercussions for a warning, I'm not sure why you would feel that it's harsh and unfair treatment.

The stuff that I feel is harsh and unfair is how the moderator dealing with me is handling the situation/conversation privately. But I am not going to call anyone out here or blast anyone; that wouldn't be nice or right. I also didn't know, because the mod never said, that there are no real repercussions. I just hate having marks on my record. Lol. Thank you for explaining.

If you feel that a moderator (or anyone) is being inappropriate via messaging, then you should report that person, either to another moderator, or to admin.

Just to clarify . . . there are no repercussions for one or two warnings . . . three warnings can get you banned.

Although we hate doing that, so you get a lot of reminders before you get that third warning. We try to make sure a person is deliberately disobeying rules, as opposed to making mistakes.

I received a warning that stated "Please re-read our board's rules before posting again...re: [insert first few lines of my deleted post]."

When I asked what I did wrong, the response I received stated only "The post is deleted...please read: Board Rules."

I had to ask again for more clarification, and only then received an email back with a direct quote from the rules. That was the last I heard from the person who issued my warning.

I explained (twice during the conversation) that I never meant to break any rules and asked for my warn status to be reduced back to zero, and I have so far been ignored by the person emailing me. This is the problem that I am having and why I started asking questions here in this thread.

It doesn't seem that the person who contacted me/warned me cares that I made an innocent mistake which I am sure many newbies make, as opposed to deliberately breaking a rule (which I certainly didn't do on purpose).

PS - I also asked the warning mod to email to me the full text of my deleted post (I can only assume it's available to them because he quotes parts of it in the warning) so that I wouldn't have to re-type the entire thing from memory (it was quite lengthy) and that request was ignored. They didn't even tell me if they could/couldn't fulfill the request.

Me, too! I was wondering what I had done wrong and was looking at others to see if they had a warning bar also and they didn't. Now I understand that when they look at mine they don't see a warning bar (mine isn't green so I guess I'm okay!)

You, like every member, have a warning status that you can see. Yours is empty. Like most members, you have never received a warning.

It would be nice to go back to zero at some point. I too got a warning as a newbie, years ago now. Even after it was explained to me, I had difficulty seeing how I broke the rules. Nonetheless I now censor my words so as not to do it again and be banned.

We usually leave the warnings so people can be reminded that on this particular site we don't allow postings to personal sites. Some people may get a second warning, but getting a third takes a lot of work, and a deliberate campaign to flaunt the rules. We use the system to remind people, not chase them out.

. . . and for what it's worth, you only have one warning. When a new member breaks the same rule multiple times (within a relatively short period of time)it will usually result in just one warning. We make the judgement call of "Are they spamming the boards/promoting a business" or did they not look at the board rules? The professional spammers are pretty easy to pick out . . . do you need deep discounts on shoes, meds or beauty products?
