  1. You know, they really ought to standardize testing protocol a bit better for some diseases like Celiac so we have some consistency here! I have never seen the combined assay before and I am not really sure why they would combine antibody testing like that but hey, I am not wearing the white coat! Increased IEL's also happen in the early stages of Celiac...
  2. They don't care, you're right. I have a new PCP I may not go back to because we are just not hitting it off. I asked her to repeat the ANA because I am curious to see if it has come down any more and she said it only mattered if you have lupus. Whatever......... Celiac is such a systemic AI disease and can affect every organ system so it very may well...
  3. Oh, no.......oats are what I am lucky with, not lottery tickets. Never get more than 1 number. You know, after 12 years gluten free, most people should not be getting glutened even occasionally, if you are strict and don't take chances. I can't be the only one. I generally don't eat out much at all but when I indulge, I frequent the same 2-3 places that...
  4. If you have skin issues with Celiac like DH, then they may not work for you at all. It doesn't take much to make DH come back...people seem to be very sensitive to many things when they have DH. You had a negative reaction so I can't blame you for staying away from oats. I just wanted to point out that certified oats work for many and not everyone...
  5. Bag balm has been used for years for really dry skin. No side effects except for people like JMG who now moo often......
  6. Certified gluten-free oats are safe, Victoria! If you are diagnosed with Celiac and try them for the first time and have problems, then wait and re-try in a few months. But many people can tolerate them just fine, including me. It is so different with everyone. I did not wait a year to try them, either, and my gut was totally trashed at diagnosis. Funny...
  7. With a positive on both the EMA and the tTg/IgA, that is a slam dunk for Celiac without the biopsy. On the EMA testing, no other disease but Celiac will cause a positive. They test the IgG antibodies in case you are IgA deficient, which you are not. If you are IgA deficient, the IgA testing will never pop positive, even with full blown Celiac, so this...
  8. This might be of help: http://www.glutenfreedrugs.com/newlist.htm The list was updated on 4/28/2017. The manufacturer won't guarantee gluten-free status of Synthroid but that does not mean there is gluten in the hormone's additives.
  9. Wow! Is that old myth still alive? Even if it were true, most people either peel or wash their fruits and veggies before consuming so there would be zero risk to a Celiac.
  10. This is why I do not go to Rheumatologists. I did a lot of research myself into elevated ANA and what I read was not what you hear in a doctor's office. This test can be elevated from a number of different AI conditions but they focus on lupus because there's meds for that. I have Celiac, Hashi's thyroid disease, Sjogren's Syndrome and Reynaud's and my...
  11. Just to clarify what you are saying to make sure I have it right.......do you mean that someone with Celiac following a gluten free diet can test for a weak positive on the DGP or, on re-test, it is not zero but registers low normal? If someone has a weak positive on re-test, then they are ingesting small enough amounts that it is pushing their blood work...
  12. The lab I used was Genova Labs and they are a pretty progressive lab, with regards to testing. They bill using a Pay Assure system, where you pay up front a certain amount set by the Lab and then they bill your insurance company. If the insurance company pays out, then you get a refund. If they refuse payment, then the amount you paid is what they accept...
  13. ANA is a very general test for inflammation and can be elevated by other AI issues, including Celiac. It is not specific to any one disease. If you have multiples, you can get it to come down if you address the inflammation but it may never go back to normal.
  14. If you are referring to the AGA/IgA and IgG testing, those tests are still used in repeat antibody testing for dietary compliance, along with the newer DGP. The lab I use always runs both. Neither test will show positive unless you are reacting to the gluten in your diet that you are consuming. Other AI issues will not show up on Gliadin testing but will...
  15. She's willing to check for other AI diseases but only the T4 for thyroid? It's as simple as taking more blood. The symptoms you mentioned, plus the low body temperature, is pretty clear cut for thyroid disease. This is why I ended up going to a functional MD for my thyroid and never looked back. They do the full panel when I want them to. If the...
  16. Hello Jules, Her tTg/Iga is very, very high and that will not occur from just the diabetes alone. Since Type 1 and Celiac share the same genetics and can occur together, it would be great if she could have the complete Celiac panel run and not a partial. I do not understand the test for Immunoglobulin so cannot comment on that but her tTg is concerning...
  17. I couldn't have said this better!
  18. What would be helpful, Victoria, is to have a full thyroid panel done because you cannot diagnose anyone with Hashi's without a full panel. It is more important to see what the actual hormone levels are than the TSH. Those would be Free T3 and T4. You can have low hormone levels and normal TSH. Your TSH is not too bad but if it starts to climb any higher...
  19. With the 3 positives that you have, Jenna, you have Celiac Disease. Positive tTg and EMA is a slam dunk. At this point, if you do the biopsy, you don't need it for diagnosis. It will be to check for extent of damage. Considering your health issues, it's pretty apparent you have a gluten problem anyway. Congratulations on figuring out your problem....
  20. These 2 tests are basically the same test except the newer version, the deamidated gliadin test, is more sensitive than the older version. Both tests are valid and very useful when included in a Celiac panel. I was diagnosed via blood work using the older test as I was diagnosed 12 years ago. But I have both tests run when doing antibodies every once in...
  21. Is it possible you have a lectin problem? The veggies you listed above contain large amounts of lectins and they are known to cause severe joint pain in those who cannot tolerate them.
  22. I am sensitive also and take this diet very seriously but there are people like Jane Anderson who say things that no Celiac organization would back up. Just plain crazy stuff. Regardless of whether you have DH or are a sensitive Celiac, no one should put themselves into a bubble to live. Mental health is just as important as physical health. As for the...
  23. I would have to agree with these statements although I think Jane Anderson rarely has good points to make. She who thinks everything is contaminated and gives people the impression Celiac's need to live in a bubble.
  24. I don't know who told you that but it is not true. I have positive RF and do not have RA. RF can be elevated from other autoimmune diseases, such as Sjogren's Syndrome, which I do have. You can have elevated RF without RA, but probably have another AI disease.
