  1. REALLY!?!?! You mean there is some good news in regards to my daily incinerating flashes? Red wine also causes me to flash bad but I'll be damned if I am going to give that up. I have already given up everything else!
  2. My company used to do the same thing. It never bothered me at all that I couldn't eat the cake for everyone else's birthday because I'm used to that.....really. However, when my birthday came around, no one made any effort to pick up even a candy bar that was gluten-free. That truly annoyed me until I realized why they probably did not. There is another...
  3. It would be much healthier to eliminate dairy from the diet than to take steroids for long periods of time. You'll lose bone mass with steroid use, among other side effects. Dairy has long been known to aggravate asthma because it's mucous producing. Whether it's from the lactose or casein doesn't really matter....asthmatics should not consume dairy.
  4. I just checked the Lundberg website and failed to find the information you state on using oats as a cover crop for their rice. Could you please reference where you found that information? I have my doubts as they openly advertise a large portion of their products as gluten-free, yet in their information on Celiac, include oats as being problematic for some...
  5. No, gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin. As a previous poster stated, the molecule is too large to pass through your skin. Using gluten-free topical products is a choice issue and if you feel you cannot use them without ingesting any (as in swallowing or through your nose and eyes, I would recommend going entirely gluten-free on these products. I...
  6. I am an extremely sensitive Celiac and usually only eat commercially processed foods from dedicated facilities(there are a few exceptions where their production practices are excellent) yet have never had any problems with RPBC. There really is no way to prove cc in small amounts anywhere because they cannot test down to levels below 5 ppm. You still may...
  7. May I ask how old you are? Are you menopausal? Gluten free never made any difference in my hot flashes and I am the queen of severe flashing! However, I went through menopause 1 year before diagnosis and am at the age for flashes so gluten free most likely would have zero effect on them....it's all absence of hormones which controls that.
  8. I usually make my own breadcrumbs too but I always like to have some handy if I don't have the time to make them. These panko crumbs are the best I have ever had, commercial wise, and for some recipes, work far better than ground up cereal. I sometimes use ground up corn and rice chips but wouldn't use those if making chicken parm. You would never know you...
  9. That last line got me! How true!
  10. I have seen cookies which contain certified gluten-free oat flour...which I would eat because they are certified gluten-free. If it doesn't state that, then I don't eat them. I would think that any company marketing directly to the gluten-free population would clearly mark whether the oats were certified or not. I doubt they would stick oat flour in everything...
  11. I discovered these recently myself and they are, indeed, awesome! Taste like regular breadcrumbs!

    ARCHIVED Frustrated!

I think King Arthur brand has done an outstanding job with their gluten-free line of mixes. It is better than Betty Crocker, by far, and I think they are soy free also. At least the ones I have tried were. I cannot offer any advice on the morning sickness, as I have never been pregnant, but I was severely nauseous for a whole year, pre-diagnosis. It...
  13. I was able to lower my meds by almost half the dose....from 150 mcg to 90 mcg. However, I am not sure if this is from lowered inflammation or increased absorption in my GI tract, or a little of both. I really don't care, I am just happy it happened!
  14. The point I was trying to make is that my tTg remained elevated, even though my other Celiac testing were all in the low normal ranges, which means, as you all know, that I was not ingesting gluten to cause the elevated numbers. The tTg never completely normalized until my thyroid antibodies did, so if elevated tTg has no relation to thyroid disease, then...
  15. While I agree 100% with most of what you say here regarding pharmaceuticals, many, many Celiacs can and do tolerate certified gluten-free oats just fine, including me. I ate a lot of oats pre-diagnosis anyway so was used to the amount of fiber. The reaction that some have may be from the fiber content alone. I think oats should be included in safe foods lists...
  16. I have seen 2 doctors, one a thyroid physician and the other a hematologist, who both told me that elevated tTg can also be seen with Hashi's, autoimmune liver disease, Chron's..to name just a few. Not everyone with these diseases will have Celiac, either, although the number is high. That's why any good doctor would also check for these diseases with an...
  17. Anemia and all of the other symptoms you listed are concurrent with thyroid disease..which is associated with Celiac Disease. I have Hashimoto's thyroid disease, along with Celiac, and I have become anemic when my thyroid hormone becomes too low. Thyroid hormone is necessary for red cell production. Thyroid disease can also elevate tTg. Just something to...
  18. I tend to agree with what you say about the fact that at least you know how much gluten is in the beer but I do not think the "unknowns" or companies who label and sell to the gluten free public have products loaded with hidden gluten. I think this is far overplayed. You will always have the exceptions because we see this often with regards to other foods...
  19. Celiac disease does not weaken the immune system in any way.....unless you reach the point of severe malnutrition with it and become very run down. Celiac is a disease of overactive immune response. I received allergy shots for 12 years and stopped them 2 years ago, more to see what would happen if I did. Half of the shots were given when I was undiagnosed...
  20. I have eaten at my local Carrabba's many times and never had a problem until this past Christmas. I went on Christmas Eve, between parties, so I could get a meal I could eat safely. We ordered and I must admit, the waitress was nice but ditzy. I went through the whole spiel about gluten free and when the meal came, I immediately knew there was something wrong...
  21. To make things easier.....the above listed ingredients most likely do not contain gluten. You do not have to worry about artificial ingredients because they are, well, artificial, as in not "real" food. You would have to have real food in there for the offending protein to be present for you to have a reaction. You do not have to worry about artificial ingredients...
  22. I am not sure where you got the information that Silk soy milk uses barley in their processing of the product but that is incorrect. They do not. In fact, none of the ingredients in their products contain anything of concern for a Celiac, plus, they are going to start testing for gluten in the near future. I am not sure why as they use nothing in their processes...
  23. I also have this problem, have had for years, and it sounds like you too have environmental allergies, on top of Celiac. That's a pretty common pairing. I also have Sjogren's Syndrome, which adds to the reasons my eyes are such a problem at times. Are your eyes very dry? Do you suffer from dry mouth? These are 2 big symptoms of Sjogren's and its one of those...
  24. I go to Starbucks often but only ever order one thing....Soy Chai Latte. Those can easily be made with no CC issues but I never order anything else because I don't want to take a hit PLUS their blended drinks are so high in fat and calories, I don't think they are very healthy. I have never been glutened by a Starbucks drink. Starbucks has taken a different...
  25. I second the use of Digest Gold.....they are about as good as digestive enzymes get. Along with the use of probiotics, my GI tract is a happy camper these days!
