  1. Way to go, Nicole and team! Apparently, we need more female coaches!
  2. Fran and Colleen are the type of people who inspire so much inspiration and courage when we hear of your struggles. I went a long time undiagnosed also and ended up with 4 AI diseases but they pale in comparison with what you both deal with on a daily basis. Just keep on swinging that bat and don't give in! I hope 2015 is an uplifting and healthier year...
  3. Hi Julie, Reynaud's and Sjogren's and Hashi's, oh my! My skin is dry but with these 3 issues, I am basically f--ked and just deal with it as best I can. The only place I have an annoying problem with it is my face. Not too much scaley going on, but dry. I sample and use good, and unfortunately expensive, facial creams but I find they work...
  4. Open Original Shared Link This explains the tocopherol issue quite well.......
  5. You've done your homework! Good job! There is just too much fear and misunderstanding in the Celiac community when all you have to do is read the science. If something is tested to contain negligible or no gluten content after processing, then there is no gluten, period. It will not make you sick from a gluten point of view.
  6. Vitamin E (tocopherol) derived from wheat germ oil that has been highly refined is considered safe by Celiac Disease organizations that make it their mission to tell us what is safe. An allergy is also different than an intolerance so that is comparing apples to oranges. I have a great article by Tricia Thompson on this at work and will post so you can...
  7. Sunny.....if you choose not to eat something because you think it contains gluten, that is your choice. The reason things are different than it was 20 years ago is because education and knowledge and testing protocols are much better. Glucose from wheat is safe for Celiac's and the testing proves it. Same with tocopherols used in many products....safe...
  8. A certified gluten-free label means that the company in question has tested their product down to a certain level. Usually it's less than 5 or 10 ppm's. You can call them to find out, if you wish. Straight gluten-free labeling, without the certification, used to mean that a company may not have tested their product but they use no gluten ingredients...
  9. Yes, it can! I have Celiac and Hashi's and my thyroid antibodies were off the charts for many years due to undiagnosed Celiac. It takes a long while to bring the thyroid antibodies down and some people have trouble with that to the point where they never return to normal.. This, in turn, can keep your tTg higher because your thyroid is still under attack...
  10. Hi Galixie......I hope this will help you understand all the confusing testing! The Gliadin IgA and IgG testing checks for an autoimmune response to the proteins in wheat, barley and rye. This is the test which checks to see if you are reacting to the food you eat on a daily basis.....gluten containing food. The tTg IgA and IgG tests for damage to your...
  11. Zloduska......this is my last reply because you are too hard to communicate with, due to your anger. It is blinding you from seeing the truth. You are comparing apples and oranges and don't seem to understand that a reaction to oats in some Celiac's is not due to cross reactivity.... which does not exist and is not medically valid. The protein is so...
  12. I have to agree, Peter. We always have to be careful when eating out but I have done so successfully over the past 10 years gluten-free and my gluten meter runs to pretty low sensitivity levels. I know when I have been mildly cc'd so its easy for me to tell when I have been glutened. I would add that if you are newly diagnosed, eating out may have to take...
  13. I totally understand what you feel. Been there, done that, not pretty! I ended up finding a functional medicine MD many years ago when it wasn't all the rage to do so and she was the ONLY doctor willing to give me natural dessicated hormone and dose by symptoms first, blood work second. I have Celiac and Hashi's also and was very messed up 10 years ago...
  14. The stool panels Enterolab offers are meaningless. Allergy/intolerance testing is difficult enough but stool testing for these conditions is not recognized by most in the medical field, with reason. However, genetics is a different story. Gene testing has come a long way and that is a valid test to see if you carry the genetics for a predisposition for...
  15. Open Original Shared Link Here is some good information on natural thyroid hormone. I use Nature-throid with good results but did use levothyroxine for years and stopped because once I healed from Celiac, it just wasn't doing it's job and I needed to use one with T3. It is gluten free and so is Armour. This information also goes into detail about the...
  16. Yup.....Mom has Hashi's! Pretty impressive numbers also. Thyroid underfunction will definitely affect your moods. Hormones all play together to create a healthy state so when you are deficient in any one of them, you feel it. Many people with depression may have an underlying thyroid problem but the docs never look into that. I can tell when my...
  17. It would depend on your age and other factors as to whether you will be able to build good bone with natural methods only. I have managed to stop the progression of osteo but have yet to reverse the T scores. I do not weigh enough to do so on my own without effort on the exercise front. Have you tried the diet, exercise and supplement routine yet? Most...
  18. Come on, Laura......that post was one of the better ones here and there were some great posts! Keeping in mind that the OP is newly diagnosed still didn't keep me from being ever so slightly annoyed about the attitude that we don't live a normal life and we can't eat the foods we love. So very untrue and as time goes on, I am positive that they will realize...
  19. I wouldn't sweat either test. ANA is often elevated with any autoimmune disease (mine is much higher but I have 4 AI diseases). I do not know much about bilirubin but your numbers are so close to normal I would not even worry about it. You are healing!
  20. You run so close to what I experienced that I am interested in hearing what a bona fide endocrinologist has to say. I still have problems with my T3 not being where it should. It's close, but no cigar. I think I am a "not so great" converter myself and that's why I use T3 in my mix. I really think emotions have a role to play with thyroid and the past...
  21. The ADA does not cover getting take out for everyone if some have food allergies or intolerances. It's more along the line that they cannot discriminate against anyone for having Celiac, as far as job hirings go. We have a Christmas party every year, as most places do, and they have offered to supply me with gluten free food at the restaurant that is...
  22. No dreading allowed.....and I should be the last person to say that! You have classic, textbook symptoms of low thyroid so your doctor is going to have to think hard on solutions. Some of us are more difficult to treat and you still have the Celiac healing thing going on. That means there is still inflammation getting in the way of recovery and stability...
  23. Oh, I get what you are saying. Once you start to break bones easily, I think you have to take a second look at meds. I haven't gotten there and I hope I do not. But at least this article goes over the different meds and their side effects and overall usefulness so making a decision will be easier. If it were me, I would be looking into ones that are given...
