  1. I should have been more specific with regards to NPR. I like many of the shows that you reference, including Cah Talk, but there are new guys on there and I liked the Magliozzi Brothers the best. I also like Wait Wait Don't Tell me. I find their news and editorials extremely biased but I know....you can say that about any news program today. That's what...
  2. Lots of bleu cheeses are gluten-free now and Pret is pretty good with their labeling...from my limited experience. You could contact the company but I am betting that it is and that's why the salad is labeled as gluten-free. From my experience lately with bleu cheeses, it seems the French still use the older method of starting it on bread so some of the...
  3. Thanks! I did not want to worry anyone but you have way more experience with ITP than I do. My co-worker has it so I learned some from him...he also had counts of down to 2K. I think if the rash looks like this type, a platelet count is in order.
  4. IBS is not a diagnosis of anything. It just tells you that your colon is irritated and you need to find the cause. It is the ultimate brush off. I think if the DGP comes back as the only positive , it could very well mean that you haven't accrued enough intestinal damage for it show on the tTg. So, that's why doctors tell people to keep eating gluten...
  5. I agree, Nicole. I could not get past the first couple of paragraphs because the woman interviewed and taking the drug just came off as such a whiny b--ch! She's been eating gluten free crap for the past 10 years? She has problems much deeper than just having Celiac and they are obviously in her head. I have no interest in this junk. The only thing...
  6. I am happy to hear you are satisfied. I am finishing up implant #3, which is my last for awhile. I have been happy with the results, so far, and no problems to report. About the tooth fitting and digestive upsets....I had that happen on the first implant when I had the tooth impression done. What I believe happened is that those impression materials...
  7. Bartie....what do you expect from public radio? Bunch of sissies. I can't print here what I think of NPR. Maybe, just maybe, one of those idiots who thinks our pastries taste terrible will actually have undiagnosed Celiac. I am not a fan of DD's either. They are not the same place that they were when I was a kid. The donuts were never as good...
  8. I would ask for the DGP, which is the correct test for dietary compliance and a repeat tTg, which is the one that tests for intestinal damage. You want the DGP to be as low as possible within the normal range given but the tTg may take more time to come into normal. Do not be upset if that one is not normal because some people need more time for healing...
  9. Welcome! All Celiac's will have damage to their small intestine if they ingest gluten but some people will become very sick (like me) and others will not have symptoms. There are many people who are in the same boat......they ingest gluten and nothing happens that they can feel, but damage is being done none the less. Kind of crazy, I know, but that...
  10. The gluten free standard may state up to 20ppms but that does not mean there is 20 ppm of gluten in the product. All of the products I use do not contain any of the above mentioned chemicals and additives and the vast majority do not. I am not sure what labels you are reading. Although gluten-free products generally contain more sugar and fat, they are...
  11. Yeah, I agree. I'm pretty sure that the homeless are not being diagnosed but many are in such poor shape, it really doesn't matter. They have enough troubles with mental illness so their gut isn't on the high list of priorities. There are places set up where they can get a free meal, if they choose. Some will not go because they will not stay in...
  12. Ha,ha,ha,ha!!!!!!! I like the attitude!
  13. The only thing I would add is dump the fake cheese because there are a lot of gums in there and they can muck up your gut when first gluten free. Really...wait until you can eat real dairy and go for the real cheese. It's better for you. It also looks like you are not eating enough protein in your diet. You need a protein at every meal. Not a small...
  14. Anyone that wants to come along is welcome! Ireland is gluten-free friendly and it's a beautiful country. I'll never forget the first morning there...all jet-lagged and I heard these words at breakfast....."Would you like some Celiac bread with your eggs"? That's what they call it. Really....you have bread for me? I knew then I would love Ireland. The...
  15. If you give a microwave oven, wherever you go, a good wipe down before using, it shouldn't be a problem. I travel and use microwaves extensively and can honestly say, I have never been glutened by a microwave oven. Every place I have stayed, the microwave was clean but I wipe it down anyway. Go away and have fun!
  16. If you feel really out of whack, you'll have to do something about that. Although you mentioned that the docs weren't too willing to test your thyroid. Keep on with the diet and keep track of your symptoms and if things aren't settling down where you feel comfortable, then you have to go to see them. I hate that myself but don't ignore any serious symptoms...
  17. A-fib and palpitations can be tied to both Celiac and thyroid problems. Many people with A-fib have reported that their problems decreased or went away with the gluten-free diet. This is all tied to inflammation. If you look at associated conditions, both A-fib and bipolar are listed. I would not recommend talking any meds for your heart, unless your...
  18. Notme is correct.......scalloping happens with Celiac so with positive blood work, I say....Welcome to the Club!
  19. I have always had trouble with humidity. Heat also but more so when it's humid out. I am severely allergic to mold so it's a no brainer that I would have problems dealing with soupy weather. This has not gotten any better since I went gluten free. However, in all fairness, I dumped into full blown menopause 1 year before I was diagnosed with Celiac so...
  20. The study which cites the 20 ppm issue makes no sense because many of the people in the study were able to resume a normal gluten-free diet with no recurrance of symptoms. Most people, when diagnosed, follow a pretty spartan, whole foods diet and go on to add many more foods back in as they recover. After 8 years gluten-free, I am amazed at how many more...
  21. Dr. Demento? You are too funny, Arlene! You have a wicked sense of humor!
  22. Well....I have to like someone who sends hugs from Blighty, don't I? I have Irish blood in my veins so thank you for the hugs! Actually, I am a Lisa also so you will always get the most up to date and accurate Celiac information from a Lisa. I still say that your Celiac tTg testing is normal and actually, pretty damn good. Especially if you...
  23. There is way too much emphasis on thyroid inhibiting foods. For the vast majority of people, you cannot eat enough of any product to cause thyroid mayhem. I have a very severe case of Celiac and Hashi's thyroid disease...it was as bad as it gets. At no time did I pay any attention to foods that may cause a problem. (for thyroid disease) I eat many cruciferous...
  24. Do not eat the McCann's Oatmeal! I made that mistake early on and had a pretty good reaction to it. It is not gluten free...like Quaker Oatmeal. I do not react to gluten free oats at all but if you buy any that are mainstream and are not from a dedicated facilty/processing, you will probably react to them from cc. As far as the advice from the AMA...
  25. I struggle to understand why we send young men into a forest fire that has become so bad that this ends up happening. Fire storms are a risk and rarely does anyone escape them. I could see if someone was hanging out of a window, in a fully engulfed home and someone took the risk to save them. But when forest fires get this bad, enough already.....do not...
