  1. We've tried counseling. A couple of times. Doesn't work. He won't listen and won't do what the counselor tells him to do. To him it's a joke.
  2. The problem is he doesn't believe in food allergies to start with. And he has the assumption that even if we do have food allergies, one bite of something isn't going to hurt us. I keep trying, but I think it's a lost cause.
  3. Actually we did do that for quite some time. Because of his behavior we chose not to eat with him. But he is currently recovering from a major surgery and can't do so much on his own just yet. So we have been taking pity on him and taking him places so he can get out of the house. Somehow I don't think he'll ever learn. This has been pointed out...
  4. She is 9 and has been called "the food police" at school. She is very concerned with food safety.
  5. That's what we think too. I would NEVER take food from someone's plate. It would never even cross my mind to do so.
  6. We went out to dinner last night. Daughter and I have food allergies. Husband does not. He had beef strogonoff with wheat and egg noodles (both allergens of hers) and of course it had sour cream in it (another allergen). His meal came with a huge slab of buttered garlic bread. And a salad with croutons and French dressing which probably contained soy...
  7. I noticed that this school year I have not been sick like I used to be in the past. I did have the flu over Christmas and it took me about a week to recover from that. But I've had no colds at all. I used to get a cold every few weeks and it would be terrible to try to recover from it. It usually turned into some sort of respiratory infection. ...
  8. When my daughter was first diagnosed with food allergies, I went overboard buying things she could eat. I bought every kind of cereal I could find. Every kind of flour, every shape of pasta, etc. I wound up throwing a lot out because she either didn't like it, I couldn't find a recipe for it (flour), or it just plain expired. But in our case we have additional...
  9. You can get a RAST test done to check for food allergies. I can't eat raspberries either. I am not allergic. But I do have gastroparesis. I ate one single raspberry and threw it right up again.
  10. I generally avoid stuff made on shared equipment or in a facility that processes those other things. It all depends on what it is. Most of the time I can find the same sort of food that is safe. If I can't, then I might try it.
  11. It should be gluten free. But you should try Real Salt. It costs more but it tastes so good you'll never want anything else.
  12. I use sweet rice flour for gravy. Works very well and the texture is good.
  13. The only one I've found that works time after time is the zucchini bread listed on this website. I sub flax meal and water for the eggs.
  14. Molly McButter does contain real butter and other dairy ingredients. So if you're trying to avoid dairy, this is not a good thing. When I make popcorn, I pop it in a pan with coconut oil and add several drops of imitation butter flavoring.
  15. I buy a four flour blend from Manna Mills, a health food store. I sometimes buy it online if I am ordering some other things. It is expensive, but I don't do a lot of baking so I just suck it up. I buy sweet rice flour in the Asian food section. Much cheaper there. Also buy my glutinous rice flour there. Other flours such as white rice or brown rice...
  16. I buy pre-made sandwiches for my husband. We can not have gluten, eggs or cheese so I feel it is the only way. No chance of CC that way unless he gets really sloppy and drops stuff.
  17. Trader Joe's sells pre-cooked brown rice. Just pop the bag in the microwave for a minute. I buy it all the time.
  18. I can't have dairy or eggs and although I was a vegetarian for most of my life, I eventually turned to meat when I got anemia. Now I have gastroparesis so most meat makes me sick. What to do? I turned to things most people might not think about as sources of protein. Like sunflower seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds and pumpkin seeds. I also bought some rice...
  19. Daughter and I both tested positive for cats. We have a cat and she doesn't bother us. We frequently visit the cats that are up for adoption and have no problems with them. But we visited my nephew and his two cats and two kittens and sneezed our heads off. But I think in general most cats do not bother us. I think there is a big difference between...
  20. Tofutti is made of soy and the OP can't have soy. There is a Vegan Rice cheese that is good. The only drawback I can think of is that it comes in slices. Slices are fine for sandwiches, but if you want it to melt on pizza or nachos, you need to break it in pieces. I make pizza on Ener-G rice pizza shells. I put peppers and onions on mine as a topping...
  21. Most cheese does not contain gluten. Not even Velveeta. I have read that some shredded cheeses have a coating of flour on them to keep the shreds from sticking, but I have yet to see any that has that on it. If you live in the US, they will have to disclose it on the label. That being said, you could be having a hard time digesting the cheese itself...
  22. I don't eat a lot of sweets and I have GERD so things like chocolate and peppermint tend to make me sick. I guess after a while you just grow up and learn to do without sweets, which I don't really think are necessary to begin with. Daughter has a lot of food allergies so she is pretty much limited to Enjoy Life products, Skittles, Starburst, Sweet Tarts...
  23. I can't see why that would have gluten in it.
  24. You would have to tell the Dr. that you are allergic to corn. I have read that the test can also be done with jelly beans (again, corn might be an issue), but they can probably come up with something that isn't corn based.
  25. I have gastropareis and also food allergies. I can't have any dairy, eggs, almonds or soy (not an allergy but messes with my thyroid). I rarely have an appetite. I seem to do best with liquids. Stuff like Ensure has been suggested but that contains dairy. Every kind I've found has dairy in it. If he likes Smoothies, you can make one with rice...
