  1. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Prayers and good wishes still coming your way.
  2. Your being gluten free for four weeks would likely cause a false negative on the biopsy. If being on the diet for 4 weeks gave you a bit of improvement and you had positive blood tests you might want to suggest to your doctor that instead of doing a challenge and rebiopsying perhaps you could go back to gluten free and see if your positive blood test becomes...
  3. Can you call your GI's office and ask to be put on the cancellation list? There are times when folks will cancel at the last minute and if you can go on short notice you may be able to slide into their appointment. Sometimes this can get you in sooner.
  4. Biotin, a B vitamin is good for hair and nails. I also take D3 and K. I have had good luck with NOW brand as far as being allergen free. I used to take the brand of vitamins you do for hair loss then discovered it has soy. For me soy and gluten both cause hair loss. I second getting your vitamin and mineral levels checked. Also if you were very ill before...
  5. The biggest risk is the pain pills for after the surgery or any sedative in pill form they may give to calm you before. What I do is get the script(s) filled before the appointment. I take in the script and do two things, I ask the pharmacey to check and at the same time I get the name of the maker they use then go home and call the company myself. I do this...
  6. Great to hear. Good luck with the job. That the manager called you so quickly is a good sign. Sounds like things are looking up.
  7. Thought I would give an update. I did finally find a job and am back working with kids for a national organization. It is a job I did years ago and loved. This first week is kind of trying because we are short handed due to someone being out sick but it is great to be back working with kids again. The only downside is that I am back at the same hourly rate...
  8. Yes it is ridiculous. And dangerous for us. One thing I do when I call drug companies is tell them I am allergic to wheat. The reason I do this is because wheat starch can be considered gluten free so if I ask if it is gluten free they can say yes and still have the item have wheat starch.
  9. Yea personally I wouldn't even try it. Thanks for posting about your experience as it may help others.
  10. Just iodine for the first couple years after diagnosis.
  11. You are likely to get a wide variety of answers. Mine started full force at about 5 covering my legs and arms. It was misdiagnosed as poison ivy but it never went away except for the once a year when they would give me a 10 day course of prednisone. Eventually in my teens it did calm down a bit and then the rashes were just in the creases of my joints.
  12. I hope the doctor is helpful for you. If he does agree to biopsy do keep in mind that can be a false negative so do a gluten free trial after the test. You don't need to wait on the results. If you were gluten free for a bit and it helped make sure to stress that. If you are doing a challenge and you have kept a symptom journal do bring that with you. One...
  13. There are some people that have something called pernicious (sp) anemia independant of celiac. For them their bodies don't make something called intrinsic factor. That factor is needed to be able to utilize B12 from food or supplements. They usually need supplementation by shots and/or sublinguals for life. Recent studies are showing that the lower level...
  14. Those 3 days back on gluten would likely not be enough to raise your antibodies significantly but they were enough to show you that your body doesn't want gluten. It doesn't sound like your body is going to tolerate a full gluten challenge. Hopefully your doctor will realize this and give you a diagnosis.
  15. False negatives are not uncommon with both the blood test and biopsy. You do need to be eating gluten for the best chance of an accurate test for both. After you are done with all the testing you choose to do then do a very strict trial of the diet no matter what the results. It is best to go with whole unprocessed food when you are doing the trial and also...
  16. You could try a chiro and see if it helps. Have you mentioned this to your doctor? If not it would be a good idea. He may want to refer you for a consultation with a neuro.
  17. This may help a bit. Do be aware that there can be some false negatives in the biopsy like with all celiac testing and that although usually the lesions are bilateral they aren't always. Open Original Shared Link My lesions also resolved pretty quickly after I went gluten free and deleted iodine but it would take very little to bring them back for...
  18. I also am a bit concerned about his teenage son. In the condition he is in he most likely really isn't able to care for him properly. I do hope Karl gets some help with his anger and his health issues.
  19. Good. Now if they would just get drug commercials off TV........
  20. I think most of us have had to deal with folks like that at some point or another. It is annoying and hurtful but our best revenge is to get healthy and happy again. Social occasions that involve food can be really tough. Some of us eat before we go or we bring something with us. If I am at a place where they don't have a gluten free menu I am the eat before...
  21. I tried to wave my magic wand but unfortunately it's powers don't go into cyberspace. We can only help folks that really want help.
  22. So sorry this happened to you. Doctors really don't know what meds are gluten free and what aren't. Sometimes even pharmacists don't check. I think your plan to just have your gluten-free handle it and go back to the old med is a good one. I don't understand why since it was working so well for you the endo switched it in the first place. I hope you are feeling...
  23. In light of this I would also report the doctor to the AMA. This med should never have been prescribed for your daughter since your doctor doesn't even have the results of the biopsy yet. Wonder how many Lotronex goodies that doctor has like pens, pads etc.....
  24. What that doctor should have done is told you to get your daughter on a trial of the diet, IMHO. IBS is not a diagnosis it is a symptom but instead of telling you to try the diet she gave you a script for a toxic med with scads of side effects and most likely a nice high copay. Since she has had the biopsy, and with that doctor I would get copies of all...
  25. You may be lucky and have limited effects. There was a time when doctors thought celiac was outgrown but we now realize it isn't. It can take a while for symptoms to show up once someone goes back to eating gluten, not that I think that is what you are going to do. It is also possible that you will have a delayed reaction. It takes about 3 days for gut symptoms...
