				ARCHIVED My Poor Son's Teeth
ravenwoodglass replied to crimsonviolet's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes there are advantages to getting a firm diagnosis. However at his age false negatives are common so do what your instincts are telling you to do and get him gluten free as soon as all testing is finished. If he has a rash he may have DH, the skin form of celiac. You can take him to a good dermatologist who can biopsy the area next to the rash and look... -

ARCHIVED D Starting Up After 1.5 Yrs Of Being gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Gfresh404's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad things have overall been going well for you. With the chills, slight fever and headache at the onset it does sound like it was some sort of bug that got you. Make sure you cook your 4th of July burger to at least 165 degrees. LOL -

				ARCHIVED Dedicated gluten-free Brands?
ravenwoodglass replied to Becksabec's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kinnickinnick, Glutino, Grainless Baker (my new favorite), Ener-g (hate their bread liked the crackers when I could still have soy, Gluten Free Pantry (their cake mixes are good and the French Bread Mix makes great pizza). Wegmans products with the circle G, if you have one nearby. I have never been CC'd by anything from Wegmans and I am pretty sensitive... -

				ARCHIVED Nathans Hotdogs
ravenwoodglass replied to ejitt00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In addition they are the greasiest hot dogs I have ever eaten. I love the way they taste but all the grease doesn't like me much. I hadn't noticed the sorbitol in them, I don't tolerate it either so that may factor in for me also. Too bad cause they taste so good, oh well back to Oscar. -
Did the derm do a biopsy to the skin that is next to the lesions? It could be DH. If they biopsy the lesion itself it will be a false negative. I just looked at a bunch of pictures of pompholyx on the net and many of them looked just like my DH. Many derms are clueless about DH, mine was diagnosed first as 'poison ivy in my blood' then as atopic dermatitis...

				ARCHIVED Amy's Rice Crust Pizza
ravenwoodglass replied to Heather's Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Try the Kinnickkinnick crusts. They are made in a dedicated plant and you get 4 to a box for a bit under $10. Add in the toppings, I freeze leftover pizza sauce as one can is to much for one pizza, and you have a good quick pizza meal for less than 5 dollars. With some of the other crusts I just cringe at paying over 6 dollars for just one small crust or... -

ARCHIVED D Starting Up After 1.5 Yrs Of Being gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Gfresh404's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The first thing you need to do is to get to a doctor and have stool testing done. You may have picked up salmonella or something else and that needs to be ruled out. I had a time when I thought my IBS had gotten worse, not diagnosed yet at that time. I went to the doctor and she said it was a tummy bug and dismissed me. It continued and I went back and demanded... -

				ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance Or Glutening?
ravenwoodglass replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would suggest removing both soy and dairy for a while. Completely. You should also go with a more unprocessed foods. The Endangered chocolate bars got me a couple times and they do not say they are gluten free. The cereals other than the Glutino could be CC'd in the plant. If your lunch meat is not bought at the deli dept they should be okay. I have problems... -
Keep up with the diet and be patient. I had a lot of muscle wasting in my leg on my right side. I also had no reflexes. It took awhile for things to get more normal but they did improve. I am so sorry you are going through this. A physical therapist was very helpful for me. Has your doctor given you a referral? They are covered by insurance but you do need...

				ARCHIVED Blood Test Accuracy
ravenwoodglass replied to angiegoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For your sake I hope it does also. Keep in mind that not all celiac symptoms are gut related. I do hope you do at least a dietary trial. You may discover that things you never dreamed could be related to celiac resolve. If your producing antibodies that are showing up in blood work damage is being done somewhere. -

ARCHIVED So Disappointed With Medical Profession Right Now...
ravenwoodglass replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with you about that. As to your original post, I think you have a lot of company as far as being fed up with Drs in general. I am really glad you are taking you health into your own hands as far as the gluten free diet goes. I wish I had known to do so, it would have made such a difference. I show false negative on testing but not one single doctor... -

ARCHIVED So Disappointed With Medical Profession Right Now...
ravenwoodglass replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sorry but I do disagree with this. The important thing is regularity. Different people have different systems. People can be fine with one BM a day some have different patterns. You are not releasing the food you just ate. If you are you are not absorbing much of anything from that food. That is called dumping and is a fairly serious medical issue. You... -

ARCHIVED Toddler's Nerve Pain Possibly Gluten-Related?
ravenwoodglass replied to ellie10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There actually is a test for gluten ataxia but most neuros either aren't aware of it or they don't know what the results mean. Mine was clueless and delayed my diagnosis of ataxia for many years. Neurological antibody attack can show up on an MRI. What they find is called UBO's or unidentified bright objects. I have multiple lesions and they were the reason... -

ARCHIVED Digestive Enzymes - Malt Diastase Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to newburyport's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I only needed them short term so I don't take them anymore. I think the best person to ask if they are safe to take with the ulcer med would be either your doctor or a pharmacist. Pharmacists are supposed to know about drug interactions so they might be the first person to ask if interactions are your concern. -
I'm sorry to hear you lost your job but it sounds like the place was pretty toxic. Glad you were able to get a severence and I hope you can find another better job soon. Hang in there, you never know this time next year you may look back and say losing that job was the best thing that ever happened. I do hope so anyway.

Glad to hear your out of the hospital and I hope they get this figured out soon. -

ARCHIVED I Cannot Take It Anymore!
ravenwoodglass replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know what you mean. For some folks they do consider it worth the risk and some of them take a really long time to heal because they feel they need to. For me it really isn't worth it because my symptoms are too severe and last too darn long. I risk PF Changs maybe once a year over the last 5 or so and I have also been gotten there one of those times. It... -

				ARCHIVED Masa Harina?
ravenwoodglass replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would call the company that produces it and ask if they also produce wheat flour. If they do chances for CC are in my opinion high. -
What do you 'hives' look like? Are they large mosquito type bumps or are they smaller, more like a flea bite size? If they are smaller you may have DH. The placement you describe is where many folks typically get DH breakouts. If they are hives an antihistamine should relieve the itching. Antihistamines don't do much good for DH though. Do check all that...

ARCHIVED How Fast Does Dh Show Up?
ravenwoodglass replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Sorry it took me so long to reply to this. I had DH really bad as a child. It literelly covered my arms and legs and after a couple years my face. I had a teacher once send me home from school because she thought I had impetigo and Mom had to get a doctor's note before they would let me come back. Doctor told my Mom that I had poison ivy in my blood, yeah... -

				ARCHIVED Fruit Stripe Gum
ravenwoodglass replied to elocin71's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know about that specific product as I don't chew gum but I usually ask if there is any wheat, rye or barley in the product or it's natural flavors when I call about a product. Wheat is in the 8 allergen listing but barley, oats and rye are not. -

				ARCHIVED Dunkin Donuts
ravenwoodglass replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What else do they process at the plant? Cross contamination can occur in a plant setting if they are making items that are not gluten free. If you can drink other coffee with no issues then just stick to the brand that doesn't make you sick. -

ARCHIVED Feeling Better By The Day
ravenwoodglass replied to txplowgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So glad your feeling so good. Sometimes we don't realize just how toxic someone can be to us until their gone. In all respects not just gluten. Enjoy your freedom and improving health. -

ARCHIVED Can Dh Be In One Small Place?
ravenwoodglass replied to Skylark's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have had my DH under control now for years, I had it extensively for most of my life. Now if I get a good glutening I get one or two little blisters, usually on my pinky fingers. Can't say for sure what you are getting is DH but if it gets worse and starts showing up in other areas cut the iodine out of your diet for a while. After the antibodies are gone... -

				ARCHIVED Dunkin Donuts
ravenwoodglass replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cross contamination is the likely answer. Especially if they actually make the doughnuts there. I personally wouldn't risk it.
