ARCHIVED Type 1 Diabetic, Positive Blood, Rash, Negative Gi
ravenwoodglass replied to Lecia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you getting meals that you know for sure are made in such a way that no CC could be present? I looked at the site and couldn't find any specifically gluten free meals, not saying they are not there just I couldn't find them. You may want to contact them and ask if they prepare the gluten-free food in a dedicated space. That said cooking gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Relationships, Celiac, And Compromise
ravenwoodglass replied to flutterby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Can you make sure that there is always something to grab when that lightheaded feeling hits? Perhaps keeping some pnut butter, or other nut butter and some gluten-free pretzels or crackers always in the cupboard might help. That way you know if he wants to wait a bit that there is something easy to grab to fight the BS issues. His idea of cooking ahead and... -
Sorry about calling you a 'she'. It is hard to know whether we are she's or he's often times from out board names. There are a couple of folks here that I assumed were men and then found out after a couple years they were women so I make the mistake the other way too. Right now just be concerned about the gluten. If after you have been gluten-free...

ARCHIVED Benefiber
ravenwoodglass replied to dube's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't either. If you need fiber getting it from food is the best way to go. Increase your veggies and fruits. If you don't normally eat a lot of them increase your intake slowly to avoid gas. If your system still isn't healed cook them first rather than eating raw. One of the best food sources of fiber is sweet potatoes they have both soluable and insoluable... -
ARCHIVED Echinacea And Other Supplements Not Suitable For Autoimmune
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa79's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I stay away from immune boosters altogether. The reason why is autoimmune disease can put our systems into hyperdrive, the reason the body starts to attack itself. Personally I don't want anything that is going to keep my immune system in that mode. That is my personal choice but I have also noticed that after becoming gluten free within a short time my body... -
ARCHIVED Product Update
ravenwoodglass replied to eeyor-fan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know what got you but it wasn't gluten in Cool Whip. Con Agra is a good company about labeling. What did you put the Cool Whip on? Could you have gotten cross contamination from the kitchen or another possibility is something got you from a day or two before as many of us have delayed reactions. There may also be something in the Cool Whip that you... -
ARCHIVED Need Good Info On Nutrient Deficiency
ravenwoodglass replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One thing you can do to get some info is go on to a site that sells used text books, do a search for books on nutrition, write down the titles and authors and then go to someplace like Ebay or Amazon and look and see if they have one of them. I would not purchase from the textbook site as they will be very pricey there. If you have a college close by check... -
Mike, you may have missed it but she is not done with testing yet. We need to be eating gluten for testing to have any chance at being accurate. After testing is done then she can immediately go to a trial of the diet.

ARCHIVED Arrowhead Mills Buckwheat Flour
ravenwoodglass replied to hypersof's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you are unsure whether you might be intolerant to buckwheat you may want to try Pocono Cream of Buckwheat or Kasha. It is grown in dedicated fields, harvested with dedicated machines and processed in a facility that only processes buckwheat. I live a short way from where it is grown and processed and I buy the hulls as a mulch and to use to stuff pillows... -
ARCHIVED Atkins Products
ravenwoodglass replied to mbrookes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not all their products are gluten-free so make sure you check to be sure the ones you purchase are. I used to eat one or two of the different bars but I react to soy, which I didn't know at the time, and that was what caused my reactions to them. My soy reactions are different from my gluten reactions but in the beginning I couldn't tell. I don't know if... -
ARCHIVED Gene Question......
ravenwoodglass replied to Luvbeingamommy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would encourage your husband to be tested. Your children definately should be tested now and test them again at puberty, that is what they do in countries that screen everyone. Then retest them if they start to show symptoms. Do keep in mind that the testing on children has an even higher rate of false negatives than with adults so if they seem symptomatic... -
ARCHIVED Fluid Retention..how Long Until It Goes Away?
ravenwoodglass replied to alissar's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For me it was about a month but if I get any gluten or even a bit of CC it returns. Different folks heal at different rates and it sounds like your is improving. Hopefully it will be gone soon. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Acupuncture?
ravenwoodglass replied to novelfeeling's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I found acupuncture to be very helpful. I would give it a try and see if it helps. One other thing though do make sure that you are avoiding CC and do check any meds or supplements you may take. Some supplements say they are gluten free but still contain barley and or wheat grass, those are really not safe for us. I would examine everything you eat, be really... -
I had severe DH, at it's worst from age 6 to my 20's. At that time I never seemed to have GI issues that were not normal issues, ie. lots of tummy growling but not much else. I did have neuro issues but they were attributed to an abusive home and my balance issues, ataxia, had me considered to be just real clumsy. It is very possible to have DH and not have...

ARCHIVED So On The Fence About Continuing On With Testing...
ravenwoodglass replied to carecare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Was your son present when the doctor was talking about the endo? The reason I ask is because if your son is apprehensive about the procedure he may be downplaying his discomfort because he is afraid of the test. Just a thought that may not apply. -
ARCHIVED Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to HelenS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe your doctor is misinformed. The biopsy is certainly not the absolute the doctor thinks. There are many instances of false negative on both the blood and biopsy. In some cases it is because the damage in patchy and a damaged area wasn't biopsied. In others there are changes present, like inflammation, scalloping, high esinophils etc that some doctors... -
ARCHIVED Celiac In The Military?
ravenwoodglass replied to lilbit's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would do the same as you. I am appalled that they would do a 'cold call' on you. I am very promilitary and encouraged my son to join, before we knew the whole family was celiac. Boot camp is not a good place for an undiagnosed celiac and the stress of the training and all they go through could very well trigger it in someone that has the predispostion.... -
ARCHIVED Tcm Diagnosis: Liver Qi Stagnation With Blood Deficiency
ravenwoodglass replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Since you are already seeing a practitioner ask his advice on healing foods. Chinese medicine has a long history of using food for medicinal purposes. I used to have a great book on it but loaned it to someone and never got it back. Are you getting acupuncture treatments? I found them very helpful for dealing with Qi stagnation and started doing accupressure... -
ARCHIVED Multaq
ravenwoodglass replied to kenlove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am glad you were able to find out and hope the med is helpful for you. AF must be scarey when it happens. -
ARCHIVED Celiac In The Military?
ravenwoodglass replied to lilbit's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are already diagnosed the military will say thanks but no thanks, fortunately. If you hide it and they find out you did you could be prosecuted and end up in the brig. If you are diagnosed while you are in there are some cases where they will allow you to stay but not deploy you but generally you would get a medical discharge. -
ARCHIVED Medicine For Symptoms Of Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to Jenesis06's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You do know that just eating the filling off the pie is not safe, right? I hope you don't think that is as it is not. Just eating the top off a pizza isn't either or the chicken but not the crust from KFC. Even though you stopped the tummy issues your body will still respond by producing antibodies that can attack other organs including your brain. While... -
ARCHIVED Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to HelenS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are going to pursue more celiac testing do not go gluten free yet. You need to be on a full gluten diet for any chance of an accurate result on an endoscopy. If you are not going to do more testing then you should give the diet a good strict try for a couple of months. After all testing is done give the diet a shot no matter what the results are. False... -
First off Please Don't go Gluten Free yet as that will ensure you have a false negative endoscopy. IF you are already gluten free or gluten light do keep that in mind as far as the results go. False negatives are all too common even on a full gluten diet. As to the weight issue not everyone gains weight. I was at the heaviest I ever was in my life, including...

Not a wise idea despite the hype we see about it. It could be dangerous please pass on the cleanse.

If there is broth listed do call the company and ask. If the chicken is just chicken with no broth added it should be fine. I usually get fresh chicken and freeze at home. If you buy a large package you can freeze the pieces on a cookie sheet and then once frozen you can repackage into a freezer bag and they won't stick together. That way you have the convience...
