  1. This may sound strange but try making you salad without lettuce. I cut up zucchini and yellow squash, onions, cukes (seedless), carrots, spinach, those little baby veggies anything you like except lettuce. I discovered kind of by accident that my body just doesn't like lettuce when I ran out and just went without for a few days and my daily salad didn...
  2. He's not crazy, at least in my case. About the only time I have severe gas anymore or a rumbling tummy is when I accidentally injest something that has been crosscontaminated, or in my case if food has tomatoes or peppers (I am also nightshade intolerant, boy I miss my potatoes). I spent years carrying a jacket even in summer, for one thing to hide the...
  3. "I've been gluten-free for the most part. I cheated bigtime on a trip to Hawaii (and paid for it dearly). I don't worry too much about oats cross contamination, and I eat rice and corn and oat cereals with "malt flavoring"..... I looked at conditioners/shampoos and lotions, etc tonight and found wheat in one conditioner (Yves Rocher) and one shampoo/condit...
  4. My twin brother did. He died long before we knew anything about celiac in the family.
  5. I haven't seen anything written on it but I do know that I get a lot less dislocations now that I am gluten free. I have hypermobile joints and dislocate easily and have had a couple ligament and tendon repairs myself. In my case I think this comes from excess fluid in the joints, this fluid also caused arthritis damage mostly to my hands but all movement...
  6. I had done a elimination diet under the guidance of an allergist. When I had a strong reccurance of symptoms with the addition of wheat I was referred to a GI. He told me to start eating gluten again and scheduled me for the endo a few days later. I became so ill that I could not make it to the appointment. The GI then officially diagnosed me celiac....
  7. Not sure but I think the increase in urination is because the body is trying to get rid of the toxin. I noticed this also and also notice an increase when I am glutened. I know I am at the end of the aftereffects of gluten when I finally sleep through the night without getting up to pee, usually a couple of weeks after I get glutened. While it is going...
  8. I can definately identify with this one, step - fart - step - fart, we can be a very musical bunch . If they had a gas passing olympics celiacs would win. I know, I love the dirty looks I get from my little dog. He gets such disgust on his face and will promptly leave the room. I've thought of keeping a video camera at the ready but...
  9. Your regular doctor can order the celiac panel but many of us show a false negative on the tests, also many doctors will not tell us if the tests results are a low positive. As odd as it sounds they want us to be very, very sick before diagnosis. Call your doctor Monday and ask for a lab slip, get your blood drawn and then I would reccommend just trying...
  10. How could I have forgotten that! They first noticed osteoporosis 5 years ago when I was 45, 2 years before diagnosis. After my last scan 2 years ago they wanted me to start taking fosamax? I think that was what it was but not sure cause I refused to take it. Any meds given me, preceliac diagnosis, and there were lots, didn't do much good for anything...
  11. Borborygmi - age of onset about 6 or 7 Gas- 6 tooth enamel defects birth growth stunting brain fog depressive episodes with menses 11 on D and an adult- 35 (ibs, diverticulosis) Severe C- as a child from early memory to 20's , impacted 1 time Ataxia -10 This became very bad after Diarrhea GI symptoms hit at 35 Migraines 10 dermatitis herpeformis...
  12. Just make sure the oil is gluten free please, they may use a gluten filled oil as a vehicle for the red mandarin. We had to really make quite a few calls from my health food store when I was looking for hydrangea oil for kidney stones. A lot were NOT safe.
  13. In my experience DH between the toes and the fingers is awful to deal with. The only worse place is between our legs I hope this clears up soon for you. I also react from skin contact alone, I don't get GI problems but I can tell immediately if something I have been using is gluten filled, my hands peel and every line in my fingers and palms turns white...
  14. It is very possible to have dh sores in this area. Also the mucous membranes react strongly to gluten, in some countries they use a gluten rectal suppositories and then biopsy the rectal mucosa for celiac diagnosis instead of the more invasive endo. Many womens sanitary products are NOT gluten free, I can't tell you which brands are safe, celiac took care...
  15. Finally a way to talk to people about what was going with my immune system. My family found it astounding, and well I did too, when my arthritis (symptoms - joint damage unfortunately does not reverse)disappeared gluten-free, my neuro symptoms disappeared, my fibro disappeared, all gone unless I am glutened. I am also an Ehlers Danlos person, family thinks...
  16. The best way to find out is to get 1 can and call the number and ask the representative. Many sodas are not gluten-free so it is always best to check. Most reps will either tell you or send you a list of their safe stuff if you ask.
  17. I have had asthma most of my life, I did not however need an inhalor or meds until I was full blown celiac. I have only had to use my inhalor once since diagnosis and start on the gluten-free diet, and that was when I was badly glutened by misreading a can of soup.
  18. Also sometimes the insurance companies and the hospitals settle with themselves for a fraction of the cost. I well remember the first time I had 13 tubes of blood drawn and the bill was over $1000, but they actually got much less in the end. And welcome to the family, this board was a life saver for me there are soooo many nice, knowledgeable and even kooky...

    ARCHIVED First Gi Appt Today

I hope your on the gluten free diet now and not waiting for the test results, the tests miss a lot of us. You may not need the meds if the diet works. Some of us get relief from symptoms within days. And releif from symptoms is the true test
  20. You may also want to add a gluten free sub-lingual B12 tablet to your vitamins. It disolves under the tongue and bypassess the GI tract where it is often not being adequately absorbed. A low B12 level often causes these sensations so you may want your doctor to check those levels.
  21. Carol, Make sure your doctor knows your financial situation, not all but some will reduce your bill. Also if you are in state that has any kind of medical assistance program you may be able to get help with that bill under a emergency program. If the lab was located in your local hospital you can also go to their finacial offices and ask for help with...
  22. Is there any place close to you that has a pool? Also did your doctor give you a referral to a physical therapist? I had many similar problems before I was diagnosed celiac and the PT was able to give me excercises I could actually do. I consider myself very lucky to have had my neuropathies and fibro resolve with extreme strictness on the diet but before...
  23. And we like to welcome great people in return. I also am happy you stuck around. There is so much for all of us to learn and for some of us this board provides a way to not feel so alone and isolated. To think we might have chased away someone who needs us as much as we need them is sad. I am glad you have chosen to stay with us for now.
  24. I'm one who reacts strongly to grain based alcohols. I can drink potato vodka with no problems but react strongly to grain vodka. I can drink white rums, most unflavored rums are okay but I would check the spiced to be sure. I can drink tequila of course, but it makes me very uninhibited so I stay away from it Reactions to grain alcohols vary amongst...
