  1. Malt is not safe. I don't think the distillation process of a malt beverage changes the fact that it is malt. Granted, malt isn't one of the items that triggers a HUGE reaction in me...for the first year of my diagnosis I was still eating Rice Krispies because my then doctor told me they were gluten free (mind you this was 7 years ago) but I honestly think...
  2. I've yet to see valid evidence that would make me not consume wine. Many people don't react well to it, but it doesn't mean its a celiac reaction. And spock...depending on who you ask and how much you've eaten...two drinks very well could be over-expirimenting
  3. You're not stupid at all, it was and is a learning curve for all of us. Heck, back when I was diagnosed, they were still saying that Rice Krispie treats were gluten free before realizing that malt was on the list of no nos. I regularly ate those and Twizzlers, because honestly, who would've thought there'd be wheat in those!? It was one of those days at...
  4. I've never had any problems with Frito-Lay, I work with them directly for my job and feel pretty comfortable with their methonds of cleaning the lines. However, the list I have from them is much larger!
  5. You find it hard to believe that Amy's makes other people sick?? There are a ton of threads on this website that confirms just that. Sorry, but I don't typically come on this site and lie about getting sick from a product, that would serve no purpose. Be careful with how you say things on this board, perhaps you weren't trying to offend, but the very nature...
  6. I'm not sure why you'd ever think a sports pub would be celiac saavy! It's just beer and wings all over the place, even if they claimed a gluten free menu, I'd be leery of it...those places are typically the ones that I just go and have a soda or water and enjoy the company! I've been in a few Green Turtles and I'm not sure I'd eat there if I weren't a...
  7. frozen snickers bars? plain dove chocolate bars? I guess it depends on what your ice cream man has!
  8. Honestly when I lived near a Whole Foods I ate their salad bar items all the time and never had a problem. If it looks like there was something else mixed in it, I didn't eat it. I used to love when they had their fajita bar because I'd make my own little bowl with rice and beans and some lettuce with sour cream, it was my favorite. Whole Foods generally...
  9. I've been a celiac for 7 years and I stopped eating Amy's 7 years ago They just have always made me feel crappy and honestly, never really have made the effort to make their product any more delicious!
  10. That's actually not true. Rudi's DOES have a gluten free bread, which has caused some confusion in the celiac world, but it sounds like you didn't mistakenly pick up that one. Best wishes to a swift recovery!
  11. I'd use it. Triple wash it and then use it....but I'd make them cook their own dinner for awhile in their own pans
  12. I eat things made on shared lines because I've found when talking to companies (it helps knowing people in the business too) that they do clean and sanitize their lines after they change product. Most companies don't produce pretzels and then turn around and produce gluten free chips without cleaning the line. Occasionally something might get missed but...
  13. I'd take the pill but I wouldn't eat gluten. I'd use it for those times that I want to eat out and have a gluten free menu but am scared and take the pill just in case it is cross contaminated or something just to avoid the reaction.
  14. There's just no way I'd be ok with the school telling me what my child can eat. More than half of the kids in our district are on free lunch as it is, so you're going to force people who pack lunches to save money to pay the $3 or whatever it is everyday for slop? Honestly, unless there is a good chef behind the school lunches, theres no chance that mystery...
  15. I react to Teff flour but I don't think its a gluten thing! I tried these and they upset my stomach and I'm not very sensitive to cross contamination. I've had Teff a few times and had the same result. 20 ppm is the industry standard I'm learning...sometimes its just a trial and error thing to see how you react!
  16. I wouldn't be suspicious of 'Natural Flavors' in the United States, as they have to list if its derived from any major allergens.
  17. I agree that we need to continue to educate people but I also believe that guys like this a-hole are in the minority. I've been to many places that are absolutely acommodating and helpful and haven't gotten sick. My concern with the "fighting back" mentality is that we'll shoot ourselves in the foot and then no restaurant will try to accomodate us.
  18. Wow. You guys are the first people I've heard say you thought the Betty Crocker mixes were horrible. I love all 4, I think they're fantastic and my gluten friends can't even tell the difference! Isn't it funny how different people's tastes are!
  19. I've also been to the dentist twice a year for my 7 years as a celiac and never had any glutening issues. You're really not supposed to swallow that stuff but I'd imagine if you do, it could upset your stomach whether you have a gluten issue or not!
  20. I've been a Celiac for 7 years now and the first few I struggled with cravings but honestly, it passes! The best thing to do when you crave that stuff is to have some gluten free pudding readily available!
  21. Ted's Montana Grill is near the CNN center, they offer Gluten free stuff. There's a Chick-Fil-A in the CNN center as well. Blue Ridge Grill is in Buckhead that has Gluten free. Wildfire is awesome and I highly recommend the Real Chow Baby. Here's a few others: Open Original Shared Link
  22. It might just be me...but I wasn't all that impressed with Babycakes. I mean it was good but I wouldn't make that haul out to get them again if I were in town.
  23. I got them in a Weis Markets in PA. They're softish...and honestly, not that great but I just was astonished that I didn't hear about it on this board before I saw it in the stores! I feel like where I was in PA wouldn't have been a very successful test market but maybe they're trying it out within a certain distance from Philly? I agree, it's strange to...
  24. The person you talked to is insane.....Yes, here is a picture.
  25. I always rinse my fish and give it a good scrub with my hands I've never gotten sick off of the fresh fish section at the grocery store but I also don't eat a ton of fish.
