  1. Do you have a cooler, or could you get some bags of ice to put in your freezer and grab some cheese, milk, lunchmeats etc... otherwise, nuts, nut butter, rice chex, gluten-free rice cakes etc...
  2. I'm glad you liked it. It's one of my favorites and it's fun to add a bunch of different stuff to it--my kids love almonds and mini marshmallows! We had a Christmas party last night and I made chocolate fondue with a bunch of dippers-fruit and cookies-anyway, I made a large pan of brownies and apparently didn't let them cook long enough, because when I...
  3. All better, thank you!!
  4. Does it take a while to change? I tried to change mine earlier today, it has the correct photo in "my controls" but in my posts, it's the old photo. I changed the photo to make sure it fit the parameters. It's always worked for me in the past...
  5. I mix my own flours, I buy 25# bags from Bob's Red Mill and it ends up to be about 80-95 cents per pound. I wasn't much of a bread baker before, but I am now!! I figured out the cost per loaf to bake and it's under $1.50!!!!! We also use pancakes as bread when I'm out of "regular" bread.
  6. Peanut Butter cookies-super easy Open Original Shared Link instead of adding the chocolate chips, flatten a bit and use a Kiss Fudge, base recipe, lots of variations possible-nuts, marshmallows, candies, cookies, etc... Open Original Shared Link Gingerbread-more than 5 ingredients, but yummy Open Original Shared Link
  7. Toddlers also love Pirate's Booty-staple in our house!! We do mostly whole foods, here are a few ideas: Cheese cubes fruit partially cooked and cooled veggies yogurt cottage cheese dried fruit-Freeze dried "Just Fruits" health valley rice bran crackers applesauce tofu "pasta"-saute cubes of tofu, add chopped frozen spinach and a little tomato...
  8. I usually use Wilton colors (I prefer the gel colors), sprinkles, and sanding sugars. They list gluten in their ingredients and are always very helpful when I call them.
  9. I use this recipe (for the crust only). We really like it. I don't use the recommended flours, I just use the blend I have in place of all the listed flours-it's always turned out really good. Open Original Shared Link
  10. We have one we keep in our wine room/cellar (obviously we need more wine ). I went to Costco and bought 2 cases of the big bottles of water, a case of the organic milk in individual cartons that don't need refrigeration so the kids can have milk (they didn't have milk powder there...) applesauce, pudding cups, rice crackers, LARA bars, Mrs. May's bars,...
  11. We had a collie growing up. He was the most sweet, wonderful dog. He did need a fair amount of exercise, he loved to run! We ended up having to send him to live with some friends who had a farm (visited often) because we didn't have the room for him to run as much as he needed, but he was really lovely in every way!
  12. There's a 3rd of FD4 in todays Oregonian called "Gluten Freedom" with 3 gluten-free recipes. The writer says she'll be sharing her gluten-free recipes every month! Open Original Shared Link
  13. I think I get about 16 rolls out of it. You could do 12, they'd just be big rolls.
  14. The only time I made bagels, I used the Pamela's amazing wheat free bread mix bagel recipe. They were pretty good. From what I've read, the key is to boil them before the baking...
  15. I've just used white rice flour or brown rice flour by itself mixed well with a liquid before adding to to recipe without a problem. Last weekend I had to use Pamela's baking mix for an emergency substitution for a gravy thickener--I was sure it wouldn't work but had no other options at my mom's house, so I mixed a few tbs well with water and added it, and...
  16. My dd was 4 going on 14 when she was diagnosed. You have to be honest with her but focus on all the things she can eat and not what she can't. It's very important, I think, to not make a huge deal out of the diagnosis. It's very important to make them understand that it's a lifelong issue and 1 cheat can cause damage, but not to freak out about it so...
  17. Unfortunately just because a topic is supposed to be off limits, doesn't mean the interviewer is tactful enough not to bring stuff up. You're also not supposed to ask a woman her plans to get pregnant/have a family because that might interfere with the job/hiring, but my boss did I was honest and got the job-I think that's an important thing for whatever...
  18. I also vote for the KA stand mixer. I use mine multiple times a week, and it does an amazing job with yeast breads!!
  19. I use the Pamela's pancake and baking mix for all of my cookies and cakes. I would change the recipe to this: 1/3c butter softened or melted 3oz cream cheese 1/2 c sugar 1 tsp vanilla 2c Pamela's If using an all purpose gluten-free flour with no leaveners or xanthan gum, I would use 2c gluten-free flour blend of your choice plus 2 tsp xanthan gum...
  20. For the 1st 6mo after my dd diagnosis, I wasn't aware of resources such as this site, so I didn't realize the cc issue and I thought I was being so careful. One day around the 6mo mark, I was making a sandwich for her and me. I had a huge lightbulb (and HUGE guilt) moment as I dipped the knife in the pb, put it on my regular bread, dipped in again and put...
  21. yes they do! From the pkg: "Ingredients: Corn Syrup, Wheat Flour, Citric Acid, Artificial Flavor, Red 40." ... "Allergen Information: Contains Wheat"
  22. It took me a while to figure out why my 7yo dd kept holding her breath at various times in the grocery store, then it dawned on me--the bread aisle and the baking aisle
  23. Congratulations! -now I'm crying
  24. Bob's sells the cornstarch in 25# bags. I have the cornstarch, tapioca, sorghum, brown rice and white rice in the 25# bags. Since I live near the mill, I can pick it up so no shipping, it ends up to average about 80cents per pound. If I have it shipped, it bumps up to about 1.10 per pound-still a pretty good price.
  25. I used it as a teen, and not sure if it was a crazy hormone imbalance or what, but it didn't work at all for me. But if you have it already, you might as well give it a try! What is good for one isn't necessarily good for another
