  1. Yes, there is definitely a lot of information out there. Good, bad, OLD... it's always good to do your own research and ask your own questions. This board helped me out tremendously in the beginning... still does!
  2. So, I had the pediatrician take a quick look at it today while I was there with my daughter, and he says it's eczema. I'm not really convinced of this, but I will try out his suggestion and see if we get anywhere. If not, I think I'll skip over going back to him and try a dermatologist.
  3. I would say yes. It's more pronounced on the sides of his back onto his sides, then down around his hips. There don't appear to be many, if any, in the middle of his back all the way down. What's one more thing, right??
  4. Over the past couple of months, I've noticed that my son (who is 4) always has what appears to be scratches on his back. But he goes to daycare and they play outside a lot, so I kind of wrote it off as something that happened outside. But, he hasn't been to daycare in almost a month, and I noticed that the scratches don't look any different. So, I started...
  5. I see you have only been gluten-free for a month. It can take awhile to see everything resolved, so give it some more time. Do you still eat dairy? You could try to go without dairy products for awhile and see if that helps with the mucus problem. Dairy has been linked with increased mucus production. Or you could try to keep a food journal. I know you...
  6. I just had my second 4 weeks ago. My doctor put me on BenzaClin for my face. It's a prescription, but I've struggled with my skin pretty much since I was 9... and it is the ONLY thing that's ever worked. And it was safe to use during pregnancy. As for the feeling sick, I'm afraid I probably can't offer much help there. I ate apples w/ peanut butter for...
  7. I'm supposed to get one because of my daughter, who was 5 1/2 weeks early and has a brother in daycare... I probably would not otherwise. But, I also have to get a flu shot for the same reason.
  8. I cooked it, and then used it to make a tabbouleh type salad. It's kind of gelatinous when you cook it, so I let it cool and then mixed it with the other ingredients.
  9. Based on appearance only, it looks as though they tested your total IgA level and nothing else. I could be wrong, but that is what it looks like. In which case, at least you know you're not IgA deficient... but not so helpful in the celiac process.
  10. This site can be helpful, but there's always a chance it could be outdated. Open Original Shared Link If your pharmacist isn't being helpful (shame on them!!), perhaps you can get the manufacturer's name and give them a call yourself. There are lists for pharmacists... I went through this about a month ago. The problem with any list is that...
  11. If gluten makes you sick, then avoiding it is the right thing to do. After one week of being gluten-free, I realized I was scared of gluten, too. I went gluten-free and haven't looked back. I tested negative, too, but my doc is pretty convinced I have celiac and has diagnosed me as such. But you are right, it doesn't really matter if you have the label or...
  12. Out of curiousity, are you having him tested every year? I had my son tested last year around this time, and everything came back negative. I believe his tTG was 0. I understand how you feel, it would be easy to blame everything on celiac since I have it. I feel like I walk this line that borders awareness and paranoia... it's crazy. I'll be seeing...
  13. If they didn't already, you should be checked for anemia, which should include checking your ferritin levels.

    ARCHIVED Panera

I am not a huge fan of Panera, but I was pleasantly surprised at their gigantic allergy book. They pulled it out for me one day, too, so I could examine their soups. I've always loved their black bean soup and last I looked, it was good to go. There is definitely something to be said for having options at any place you find yourself... sandwich shop...
  15. I'm in Raleigh. Not sure about a specialist at Duke or UNC, but I go to Dr Stephen Furs in Cary, his office is on Crescent Green. (Tryon Rd & Kildaire Farm) I went to him after being gluten-free for 6 months, and he was tremendously helpful.
  16. I react to inhaled gluten, too. I always get a nasty/ headache when I get glutened, so, that's also my typical reaction. This only happened to me once though, when I used regular wheat flour early on. I was sick the rest of the day. I learned my lesson and have not touched wheat flour since... so I can't tell you if it's better or not. Seems like there has...
  17. I have wondered that same thing, if the increased tampering with the food supply, (in this specific case, wheat) has led to the rise of food intolerances and allergies. My family and I have discussed this many, many times and I do believe the two go hand in hand. I'd love to see a study done.
  18. I'm glad to hear you gave them another try. We have two nearby, and I have not had a problem with either one. The manager always brings my menu out, and things have always been exactly as I ordered them. But, unfortunately, we are left to the mercy of the staff, and if they are not as well trained as others, it can be disasterous. I always send an email...
  19. I made this and took for a goodie to my family reunion back in July. Everyone loved it and it was easy to make. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=60253 I usually take cut up fresh fruit, or a black bean salad type thing to things where I have to bring a dish. The ham idea is great... I don't know why I've never thought to do that...
  20. Congratulations!!!
  21. I have pretty low levels of IgA, also (based on the lab range). I don't get sick more than anyone else, in fact, since I've been gluten-free, I get sick less than I used to. It does most definitely throw off the celiac bloodwork. And I'm not sure if you are in the diagnostic process or not, but if you are having celiac bloodwork done for her, there are...
  22. Glad you are feeling good! I enjoyed reading that, thanks for posting!
  23. Yes, you are carrying the DQ8 gene. This whole genetic stuff is pretty confusing to me, too!! I am definitely NOT a geneticist!!! LOL I've tried to understand, but when you start getting into the alpha and beta chains, I go crosseyed. There are, however, people on here who seem to be very gifted in understanding what's up with the genetic aspect...
  24. Welcome! I had a breakdown over pizza... We've all been there, probably a couple of times. This place was a huge help for me. Glad you found us!!! So very true!
  25. Yes!! When I get glutened, I am left with extreme stomach discomfort for somewhere around a week to 10 days. It gets less and less everyday, but I am there with you on the bland chicken and rice. That's what I live off of for a couple of days. I have been back and forth with dairy since going gluten-free... I seem to be tolerating a lot more diary products...
