  1. You probably want to check and see if these places sustained any damage from Hurricane Sandy- just a head's up as it's in the affected area.
  2. I love these doctors who won't diagnose officially, until you are at least 3/4 dead already.
  3. Cute tee shirt idea, but when I followed the links I am getting a blank page which redirects to a different web address than "dontfeedme.org" it says kymwhitley.com but it's still blank. Checking the whois says the site exists but has no screenshot showing the page image and their link does not go to a website online. Looks like somebody did the press...
  4. Shorter version: These Big Ag chemical companies and Monsanto are insisting that the American public be forced to eat anonymous, unlabeled "foods" which have had other animals, plants, bacteria and fungi inserted into them, because they intend to control the seed supplies which all farmers use worldwide, which will only perform with these herbicides they...
  5. I have both intolerance and allergies. Do I have to have my asthma attack within a certain time frame of ingesting the wrong item to make my semantics legitimate in your eyes, StephanieL ? Addressing the original topic, if a person that tall and allegedly weighing only 115 lbs seeks to eat a 1,000 calorie per day diet, which isn't healthy or sustainable...
  6. Not if you are not gluten intolerant or celiac, it shouldn't. For those of us who are very sensitive, we get more sensitive over time to trace contamination, and sometimes this matters a lot, depending on how the manufacturing or packing facility handles the ingredients, do they have a dedicated, gluten free line, or do they run gluten or wheat products...
  7. Make them give you written copies of all the tests and the biopsy report... this is extremely important. I would also request a follow up visit with this doctor to discuss why he said immediately after the procedure there were some signs of celiac. Once you go off of gluten full time and completely, it is very difficult to get a medically confirmed diagnosis...
  8. Make sure all your medications are gluten free, as well. I am surprised more medical professionals don't tell about the relationship between gluten and asthma, it could save a lot of kids a lot of grief, adults, too. Is your house/home/apartment and workplace clear of that nasty "black mold" that can get in the walls in warm climates? When are...
  9. BYOFC ? The bottles of food coloring are pretty small .... would put it in a zip lock sandwich bag, just to be safe.
  10. Get a bottle of San Pellegrino water and bring your own straw, avoid the ice. Suggest you do a few practice runs of just drinking at bar/restaurant with an actual sympathetic family member (if you have any ) first. Slip a baggie of safe gluten-free munchables in your purse to knosh on, if you want. If you tip the bar wait staff very well, smile confidently...
  11. All the In&Outs that I have eaten at are allergy- aware, and knock on wood, none of them have "gotten" me with the fries, and this is compared to some pricier places with dedicated gluten-free menus, that have. I really don't think this alleged dunking rolls in the fryers is a standard after hours procedure for this restaurant. I had read the original...
  12. Nobody should be eating alleged "gluten free" oats until they are completely healed and can see how the stuff affects them. A significant percentage of celiacs/gluten intolerants cannot handle 'gluten free' oats. Dietitians who suggest otherwise should have their credentials questioned. Nobody should eat barley malt extract, period. Gluten free codex...
  13. I don't do gluten in cosmetics/lotions knowingly, but I've got extremely sensitive skin and I'm a hair twiddler. I just don't want oily wheat or oat residue spreading all over the place, especially since I tend to munch on raw fruits and veggies and nuts at the keyboard while reading. And we are already getting into sunblock lotion wearing season here...
  14. Has a doctor checked out the petechiae spots yet ? Sounds like your liver or gall bladder is rather unhappy. (and yes, gluten damage can do almost anything. Sorry.)
  15. "my aunt put the decision up to my cousin. " You didn't explain why your aunt is the one making this decision my passing the buck to "the cousin," but this is where the problem is. I have no idea how large your family is, but These People are both lazy and hostile to the entire concept of "family" togetherness. I would suggest you do not attend if...
  16. This is why I think it is necessary to do some serious push- back to the Media Themes of the Month, regarding whether or not gluten free dieting is necessary or a "fad." I have seen editors targeted, and then several pieces placed in women's magazines and online soft news, with the faux- concern that if one is restricting any food group it is a sign of a...
  17. The original Pollan tweet said this: The Pollan tweet BEFORE that one, said this: Notice how Pollan said "sustainable," not "organic." Although the link does finally mention farm current year 2013 organics programs left without funding, "Sustainable" is the new catchy buzzword being used by the GMO lobby. And the GMO lobby does not like truth...
  18. Never assume the word "organic" means "less likely to have been in contact with gluten"
  19. Try ditching the soy milk - some of us just don't get along with soy - and use a nut milk or coconut milk. Big learning curve to figure out each person's individual needs, with this. You might also have to not do dairy completely for a short time until you are well on the road to healing... this can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.
  20. Ah, uhm, eh..... granola bar coffee creamer ore ida fries bbq chips snapple plantars mix with m&ms jellyrings candy french onion soup mix, worschestire sauce diet soda _______________ whew! Let's compare that to what I ate yesterday (btw, I am not built like, and would never pass for a gymnast, because I do other sports/exercise...
  21. I just wanted to toss in there, that between my going gluten free, and putting the pets on wheat/barley free food (long story, we ended up with a dog who's very allergic to wheat, and we need to keep his diet clean, and we have one horse with allergies to certain hays, barley, and soy) my allergies to my furry pets practically disappeared. Now, the stuff...
  22. The parent company of Classico sauces, Heinz, was just sold to Warren Buffet. The first public statement right outta Buffet's mouth after he buys it, is that food manufacturers are spending way too much, and that they have to cut costs to be competitive. Don't be surprised if he ends up other selling parts of the Heinz line of foods they make, again. We...
  23. Unfortunately the Boston Globe website will not let me return to the full page access when I tried to, after checking to see if anyone left any comments under that story. There is not yet a cached version I can get to from a search engine. The title is awful. This has nothing to do with making bread any different, or "safe," it is about creating...
  24. DE works on the exterior of furry/feathery animals as way to kill external insect pests, like fleas, because it cuts into their exo skeletons and they dehydrate. Animals lick themselves when self- grooming, so it obviously doesn't harm them internally, but I don't think this is going to help otherwise. You have to be careful when applying it, don't get...
