  1. I made a very deep-coloured and -flavoured soup out of carrots, sweet potato and pumpkin -- mmm!
  2. Oh, I am so pleased for you Laura What a difference that has made to your life. I am so glad the people on the forum were of help to you and I wish you continued good health and happiness, and a joyous Christmas. Hugs right back atcha.
  3. I find that the 'lite' versions often are disasters in baking. I tried frosting a carrot cake with 'lite' cream cheese and it was a runny mess. 'Lite' has its place, but not in frosting Have no idea how it would work in Krispy Treats, but probably the same principle.
  4. So much sadness and grief heading into the festive season . My condolences on your losses, Colleen.
  5. Ah yes. I am expecting one of those under the Christmas tree..... To replace the one hubs ruined with steel wool and scouring powder and a strong elbow
  6. Yep. Methinks you have exhausted her patience
  7. It's about time they started doing some research on this. I have found myself saying over and over, test them for celiac before giving fertility treatment or IVF (and that goes for both would-be parents, since gluten apparently affects the quality of the sperm too, I seem to recall reading).
  8. Don't fret over the length of the visit. You got his attention, but he won't devote more time to you until he gets the results of the tests. THEN you can complain if he gives you only 7 minutes. Look at it this way -- those minutes he saved on that visit he can devote to someone who needs longer -- like you will on your post-testing visit
  9. Hello, and welcome to the forum. Were you diagnosed by both blood panel and biopsy? I ask this to verify if you know if you have damage to your villi. If you do, you are most probably lactose intolerant (temporarily) as well as gluten, because the enzyme that digests the lactose in milk sugars is made in the part of the small intestine that is damaged...
  10. Oh honeybun, what a trauma for you. Of course you're flipping scared, but it is probably benign. I know you can't help worrying, but oftentimes they are. Will definitely keep my fingers crossed for you. Sending oodles of positive thoughts, and some warm {{{{{HUGS}}}} and {{{{cuddlesl}}}} your way. Hang in there and do continue to let us know what...
  11. Hee Hee. Have to blow my own horn here a little bit (well, nobody does it for me)..... I was a very late-blooming student, a faded flower from days gone by, and one of those you talked about who fretted over grades. I blew away my high school years, and did all my education as an evening student. And then at the end I took a bunch of personal interest...
  12. Everyone also seems to assume that if you are celiac you don't eat dairy and you do eat soy. Wrong for me on both counts. I always have to send out a call for butter because they always put a soy spread on the tray (they do this in hospital too, whilst giving regular passengers / patients butter ) I could eat parts of my gluten free airline meals,...
  13. At first I didn't think it was possible to be intolerant of more than one food group But since I had identical reactions to corn and gluten, and still reacted after eliminating gluten, I gave up the corn. One problem solved But then others presented themselves, one by one. Just when I thought I had things sorted, another would pop up. I later found...
  14. This year I have eaten four airline meals and two lunches at a cafe run by a celiac lady and her husband, where I feel really comfortable and relaxed. We are having Christmas at home. We have a new cafe in the village, arrived while I was gone to replace the one destroyed in the earthquake, and I am looking forward to establishing a relationship with them...
  15. Hi, and welcome to the board. A Kiwi here, formerly resident in USA, now spend time half and half between the two. I must say it makes no difference to me which country I am in, I still react the same. I used not to react to New Zealand corn, but now I do. I don't know if Australia is as persnickety about GMO's as New Zealand is, but they are the...
  16. Hubs grew up there (high school) so had already been treated for local allergens. We lived there for 20 years and he didn't have much of a problem. Move down here and it was just a sneezing chorus, and because of undiagnosed celiac - sinus infections. Densensitized again, especially for cocksfoot grass, which was originally (early settlement days) a seed...
  17. We escaped Sannazay one early December because it was freezing there -- early 70's, permafrost on the ground -- and hung out in SD; brilliant ideah !!! Then we had to return to the reality of making Christmas in Sonoma for MIL...
  18. Thank you, LisaDances !!! That is great. I am going to print it out and give it to my friends
  19. I think it really has to do with the individual, not their sex. I am pretty laid back, always end up at the doc's after later than I should have been there (almost manly there but had to diagnose hubs' DH - which made a believer out of him when he looked it up) I would agreen with Karen that my immune system appears to be different, and perhaps??...
  20. Heck, San Francisco has winter only during July Even had snow once
  21. Yes, that bread would be off my list because of the pea protein. But hey, if you don't have any problems with eating peas, don't worry. We are all very, very different. Peas are in the legume family, along with beans (fresh and dried).
  22. Daring doctors delve deeply, discovering diseased duodenae, distorted ducts and diverticulosis; don't doubt diagnosis!!!
  23. I agree on the arrowroot suggestion. It seems to work better if you choose a flour that is not already in the recipe, I find.
  24. Well, perhaps I was a little harsh....
  25. Yes, that is true I believe. Lectins are a protein (glycoprotein) and are also present in wheat, etc. That is why lectins are not normally present in cornstarch and why I can eat it, and why I suggested lectins as a possible culprit.
