How long to heal?
Scott Adams replied to Makky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not everyone fully recovers with the gluten-free diet alone, and this article covers additional things that may be helpful in case you are in that group: -
Out of the scenarios you brought up it seems more likely that someone with advanced celiac disease could have a higher white blood cell count, possibly due to the gut lesions that can be caused by untreated celiac disease, which is a sign of your body fighting off an infection. When you have such lesions your body is, in fact, fighting off infection all the...

How long to heal?
Scott Adams replied to Makky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum! It can take up to two years for your gut to fully heal: Most people, like myself, begin to feel better very soon after starting a 100% gluten-free diet, and their health continues to improve for months afterwards. -

COVID-19 a Possible Trigger for Celiac Disease in Those with Genetic Risk
Scott Adams commented on Scott Adams's article in Latest Research
There is no known link between the MMR vaccine and getting celiac disease, or for that matter, any other condition that I'm aware of. When it comes to vaccines, please share peer reviewed published scientific studies, not "hormeonesmatter.com" type links. If such a study gets published, we'll be happy to cover it here. Of course you can speculate eternally...- 70 comments

Challah and apple pie
Scott Adams replied to liteglimmer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is a company that makes gluten-free challah: https://lasdeliciaspatisserie.com/products/braided-challah or https://www.glutenfreepalace.com/baum-s-gluten-free-oat-challah-bread-9-oz.html Gluten-free apple pie is available widely but can be expensive to ship: https://glutenfreemall.com/the-maine-pie-co-apple-pie-8-inch-frozen/ We have... -
COVID-19 a Possible Trigger for Celiac Disease in Those with Genetic Risk
Scott Adams commented on Scott Adams's article in Latest Research
Correlation does not equal causation. For a long time people tried to link autism as caused by vaccines, and no causation has been found. Lots of things will happen to your kids after they get a vaccine, none of which will be caused by the vaccine, except in your son's case, his not getting measles, mumps or rubella (all of which are dangerous and very contagious...- 70 comments

Contradictory blood test results
Scott Adams replied to TheBay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your DGP test indicates that you have celiac disease, and that combined with your low iron issue and GI issues seem to confirm this. Be sure to keep eating gluten until all your tests are completed. It's possible that your doctor will want to do an endoscopy to confirm this, but it's also possible that they will diagnose you based on your over 10x the celiac... -
Gluten free Flatbread
Scott Adams replied to flyingswede's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you for the recipe and welcome to the forum! Does your wife have celiac disease? If so, she should not be eating any wheat, even wheat flour from Finland, as it still contains gliadin, the harmful component of wheat for those with CD. -
Possible Refractory Celiac Disease
Scott Adams replied to Anonym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the update! Oats are a common source of cross-contamination, and many "gluten-free" products made in Europe use Codex wheat starch, which contains very small amounts of gluten (supposedly under 20ppm, but I tested a pizza crust made by Nestle that was positive for gluten, but listed as "gluten-free"). Overall it sounds like the first... -

There is no scientific evidence that celiac disease can be reversed. There is some evidence that if treated for a prolonged time period with a gluten-free diet that it can go into remission, and then it may take months or even years to manifest should one start eating gluten again.

I would not be sorry that you got the covid vaccine, as it may have already, or could save your life. Getting the vaccine isn't the same as getting the disease, and we've not seen any studies linking the vaccine with triggering celiac disease.- 70 comments

Our goal here isn't to exacerbate any tribalism, but to teach celiacs to recognize common, negative attitudes and behavior towards those on a gluten-free diet. We see this happen over and over here, and this is an example of what can happen, even within a family:

The usual place to start is to look closely at your diet to be sure that it, including medications, toothpaste, lotions, etc., are 100% gluten-free. The arthritic symptoms you described are often linked to those with undiagnosed celiac disease, or those with poorly controlled celiac disease. Assuming your diet is in order and you're not getting any...

@Oldturdle the approach you described here may work for you, or an anti-social person, however, it won't work very well for the vast majority of gluten sensitive people who wish to continue to have positive social interactions with others after going gluten-free. This series of articles addresses many issues that gluten-free people face on a daily basis,...

Osteoporosis
Scott Adams replied to JCS's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's very likely that your doctor will prescribe a medication to treat your osteoporosis, but until then you might want to find "Citracal" which is available at Costco in the USA: https://www.citracal.com/ It contains Vitamin D, Calcium, and other minerals designed to help you absorb more calcium. -
Increased appetite
Scott Adams replied to BrianG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Gaining weight could be normal for some people with celiac disease who are in recovery, and this is often caused by the recovery of damaged villi, so you are now absorbing nutrients better. Some people with celiac disease are actually overweight because they feel like they are starving all the time, and they actually are, so they over eat to compensate. To...
