  1. A lot of it has to do with genetics, as most people with autoimmune disorders carry certain genetic traits that make us more susceptible to them. Some of these genetic markers are shared with more than one disease, and are located in the same area of a gene. As with many autoimmune diseases just having the genetic markers for it isn't enough, because...
  2. So far it looks like the vaccines do offer protection against the current variants, and certainly they offer far more protection than having no vaccine at all. Currently the leading strain of covid in California is the same as the one in Britain, and the vaccines have been shown to be effective against it. I got my first vaccine dose two days ago (Moderna...
  3. I had most of the classic symptoms, including chronic diarrhea, and being in my 20's this was the worst thing I could imagine. I worked in downtown San Francisco and had to take a Muni street car to work, which became an underground subway once it hit downtown. I always dreaded the ride, and knew the location of every bathroom around every stop on the way...
  4. Celiac.com 04/09/2021 - We get a lot of questions from celiac community members wondering if certain products are gluten-free. One question we see a lot is about over-the-counter allergy medications, especially Claritin. Specifically,...
  5. Many times in the past celiacs have reported that they "let loose" on trips to places like Italy where they ate semolina wheat pasta the whole time during their vacation with little or no symptoms, and this later led them believe that there must be a difference in the wheat in that country which could explain this, and perhaps they really aren't celiac. ...
  6. You might consider taking AN-PEP enzymes with you, like GliadinX.
  7. It's good to hear that your symptoms are improving on a gluten-free diet. The GliadinX enzymes are indeed a site sponsor here, but I only allow that because they work, but only on small amounts of gluten, like you might get if you ate something "gluten-free" at a restaurant that was contaminated (perhaps they cook your eggs or bacon on a grill where...
  8. I got mine yesterday--Moderna 1st dose. Just a sore shoulder so far.
  9. More starches and fiber could help you, but try to avoid too many processed type starches like highly processed flours. Psyllium fiber powder can be helpful, but be sure it is marked "gluten-free" on the package. I got some from Amazon which was marked gluten-free, and when I tested it with my Nima Sensor it was contaminated with gluten, presumably at the...
  10. I also craved gluten almost constantly before my diagnosis. I pretty much ate high gluten foods 2-3 times a day, and usually had a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast each day.
  11. Welcome! It would be great if you could get hold of a copy of your original celiac disease blood test results and share them, with the cut off markers for celiac disease. I also am curious what "borderline" means in your case.
  12. PS - For everything else one member often recommends Berberine supplement 1500 mg a day for 3 weeks.
  13. It could be, and they do have a breath test to diagnose SIBO, so you might want to pursue that. We just updated an older article that might be helpful to you: Also, a low FODMAP diet may be worth trying out at this point.
  14. Welcome to the forum, both of you! This is a common symptom of celiac disease, and is also reported in those with gluten sensitivity. One question I have for you is, are you sure that your diet is 100% gluten-free? This problem should clear up after a few weeks or months if it is the cause of your issue.
  15. I'm sorry to hear you've had some set backs, but this is common. These two articles might be helpful:
  16. Welcome to the forum @acurry! It's great to hear that you have a doctor who is on top of this. The UK diagnostic criteria for blood tests only is fairly new, and more about that is here:
  17. Vertigo and dizziness were a big symptom for me, and are a common symptom.
  18. I still eat out once a week or so, and always take GliadinX (a site sponsor), which are AN-PEP based enzymes that have been shown in multiple studies to break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the stomach. This enzyme would not work as a more general enzyme for other foods, and seems to target gliadin.
  19. It's great that you shared this because rumors that dry wall could contain gluten have been around for a long time, but testing it is the only way to know for sure, and now we can say this isn't just a rumor!
  20. We added both to our list, thank you!
  21. Yes, I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP device. If you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, not all of your health issues are caused by gluten.
  22. Celiac.com 04/08/2021 - We get lots of questions about alcohol, especially flavored alcohols and liqueurs, such as Kahlúa. We recently did an article clarifying that Kahlúa is gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease. Still, ...
