ARCHIVED Udi's Bread!`
Ahorsesoul replied to hannahp57's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am eating a Udi's Blueberry Muffin. It's really good and I don't like muffins or blueberries. Not surprised since their bread is so good. It has no grittiness, is soft and has good flavor. I tasted it cold from the refrig and after warming, both good. -

New to this, How is you dh? And how are you holding up? -
My state has us on jury duty for three weeks. We don't know if we come in the next day until we could call after 6 p.m. the night before. Makes it hard for bosses. So my supervisor scheduled a float person to work those three weeks. If I came in, they went somewhere else. I didn't like sitting around waiting. I liked being on jury duty. I'd do it again...

ARCHIVED Catholic Receiving Communion
Ahorsesoul replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My very personal opinion, since I have a problem with gluten I take gluten free crackers with me. It is after all a symbolic ritual and it should count only what's in my heart, not what the items I use. If it really mattered it would not be wine and a wafer that were served. Those are symbolic. Would your pastor bless some gluten free crackers for you... -
ARCHIVED Sooooo Tired...all The Time!
Ahorsesoul replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree about the food journal. Also start double checking everything that goes into your mouth. It really sounds like cross contamination to me. You shouldn't feel this terrible. My dd was having problems for awhile. We finally figured out she was drinking root beer at work that was not gluten free. So it could be something that you would not even consider... -
ARCHIVED Udi's Bread!`
Ahorsesoul replied to hannahp57's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I picked up two loaves of bread and the blueberry muffins on Wednesday. DH said the muffins were good. Guess I should try them before he eats them all. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Flour For A Roux?
Ahorsesoul replied to LisaaaNoel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use gluten-free corn starch. -
It's a simple blood test. But being hungry is part of gluten withdrawal symptoms. A lot of people going gluten free have this problem. If you have other stomach symptoms you might want to have it checked. H-p can cause stomach ulcers.

ARCHIVED Celiac And Major Allergies, What Do I Eat?
Ahorsesoul replied to Cessairskye's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you like lasagna this Stuffed Pepper casserole is excellent. First there is no stuffing of the peppers, they are chopped. My dh hates peppers; red, yellow, green, doesn't matter he hates them but loves this casserole. I make this with red, yellow and orange peppers because they have a less bitter taste than green peppers. I use extra peppers because I... -

ARCHIVED Is It Safe To Use Plastic Gloves?
Ahorsesoul replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. Wash your hands before putting on lotion if you are concerned. Can't say what to do about the gloves and gluten. I have a gluten free kitchen just so I don't have to worry. I do wear gloves when washing dishes but they say uncontaminated. Have you checked to be sure your soaps are gluten free? I guess you could have two sets of gloves. Wash... -

Raises three hands here. I didn't let them take out my gallbladder but they wanted to do so. -
I want to thank you and the people doing this study. My dd was in an accident in 1989 which resulted in her brain injury. She was in a coma for months. We found the best rehab hospital in the country (in Bryn Mawr, PA ). It was not close to us but we knew whatever care she got right after the accident would determine how she lived the rest of her life. Exercise...

ARCHIVED Nuts, Nuts, Nuts!
Ahorsesoul replied to GottaSki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Why do you think you can't digest them? If there are pieces of nuts in your stool, it's not a digestion problem but a chewing problem. Same way with whole kernel corn. If there are whole kernels in stool it just mean they were not chewed properly. Many people if they see pieces of food they aren't digesting them. Our bodies do not break down such larges... -
Could it be related to cross contamination? Is your kitchen gluten free, did you replace your plastic ware, bread boards and coated pans and cast iron cookware? Is someone putting a gluten knife into the butter you are using. Have you checked your personal care supplies. Depending on how sensitive you are, it could be something very strange. Did you go...

I found a great dr who treated my fibro. She uses Dr Teitelbaum methods. I started to feel better in 3 weeks. I still have to take some medications but it's well worth the trouble. I fee better now than when I was 20. I have a friend who went with this method with excellent results also. Look under treatments for the Shine treatment protocol. I keep one printed...

ARCHIVED Bailey's Irish Cream....gluten Free?
Ahorsesoul replied to kimis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just make your own, it's easy. Do a search and you'll find lots of recipe to make it at home. Then just use whiskey that you know you can tolerate. -

ARCHIVED Bread Making Troubles
Ahorsesoul replied to DMarie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just finished a dinner of hot dogs with lonewolf's Soft Flat Bread. It whips up fast and is very good. I halved the recipe since it's just two of us. I did not have almond flour, just used Pamela's. I cut it into six pieces once finished. It's very good. Will be making this again. Next time I think I'll put some dried onions in the mix. -
ARCHIVED Have To Eat A Coco's Tomorrow For Lunch :(
Ahorsesoul replied to RobynJ's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Tonight call them let them know you will be coming in tomorrow and what will be gluten free on the menu. Gives you a night to think about what to order. -
ARCHIVED I Swear I Have Celiac Disease...but....
Ahorsesoul replied to ktnhsv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I take Centrum. Sometimes I can find coupons for it in the newspaper. I remember having a nightmare when I first went gluten-free. I was crawling down a hallway with my hand raised up into the air begging for a cracker. -
ARCHIVED I Swear I Have Celiac Disease...but....
Ahorsesoul replied to ktnhsv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some multivitamins can be broken in half if you find them too large to swallow. Remember those huge vitamin pills are still smaller than a piece of meat that you swallow. Unless you have trouble swallowing food and water you can swallow them. I teach kids to swallow pills by using M and Ms. They swallow a few candies with water they get to eat 10 of them...
