  1. I haven't tried this myself because I don't like black pepper. I have been told that papaya seeds are a good substitute.
  2. Unfortunately when it comes to SUPER SENSITIVES it doesn't do much good to know that something is derived from another grain such as corn or rice. Naturally gluten free grains are often contaminated at levels even about 20 ppm as shown by Tricia Thompson's study. Open Original Shared Link
  3. I use milk. I tolerate dairy as long as I get it from one particular source. This way I sure notice when I get glutened. Lactose intolerance comes on with vigor.
  4. I noticed an improvement when I started buying whole spices and grinding them myself. I got green spices fresh and washed and dried. Now I grow a lot of my own, and I feel better still. I am one of those super sensitive celiacs who reacts to all sorts of things. The advice here is that celiacs can eat store bought spices without problems.
  5. I have homemade yogurt, fruit and coffee.
  6. I am extremely sensitive but I must admit that I don't understand how you got glutened either. What is tap nose? Is there something about it which would gluten you if it touched your lip? Is there a reason why your sleeve would have gluten on it? Is there something wrong with the water at work? I am so sorry that you are feeling sick. It is so hard...
  7. What bothers me about this video is how science is misrepresented. It seems to be scientific, but it gives incorrect information. Gluten is a term for storage proteins in cereal grains. Gluten sensitivity refers to a sensitivity to the gluten in wheat, barley and rye. When it comes to videos like this it is really too bad that when celiac disease is described...
  8. We are also extremely sensitive. I thought we were in the extreme minority, but after reading that publication, I guess that we are much more normal than I thought. I guess we are only in the extreme minority for here. I was amazed at the levels they came up with for 90 percentile celiacs. You got halfway through. The words only went to page 46, I think...
  9. I am super sensitive to oats as well as gluten, but not to corn. Even with my two sensitivities I found I did better when I eliminated processed foods. With that third one, you'd probably find you do better too. Unfortunately a lot of gluten free products use corn or oats to replace the wheat in at least some of their products, so even if they are gluten...
  10. There has been a grant awarded to study gluten in medications. Open Original Shared Link You aren't the only one having this problem, I guess. I bet that there was still flour left in the air from when your friend made the cake. It says in this reference that it is well known that flour can stay suspended in air for 24 hours. 11. Could you tell us what you are eating? That might give us some ideas.
  12. Thanks for the advice. I definitely don't want the DH.
  13. Mommida, I am sorry that I only told you that gluten wouldn't be measured with distance, but I didn't give you an answer as to how much gluten could be harmful. I didn't have the reference at the time. Now I have found a reference. It is from The Food and Drug Administration, Office of Food Safety. It is called Health Hazard Assessment for Gluten...
  14. I apologized because I saw that I shouldn't have given an example. I gave the example because I was hoping for some compassion and understanding, which I did get from Irishheart. Thank you Irishheart. Thank you.
  15. I really need to learn to make my points more clearly. I thought that saying that obviously the grain contamination example would not apply to spices would make it clear that I did not give that example as an example of how the spices could be cc'd. I should have made the apology without trying to explain why I had made the original statement. I...
  16. That's why I made the apology. I should apologize to anyone who might read the post rather than just Irishheart, especially the OP. There may be those who I alarmed unnecessarily who didn't post about. I'm sorry to you all.
  17. I'm sorry Irishheart. I think that I was the source of your rant. I think that I gave an impression that I didn't mean to give. I'll tell separate facilities story to illustrate my point. I was looking for whole grain millet. I found a millet only facility which told me that there weren't any wheat fields within 100 miles and there was no chance for...
  18. My kids both miss a lot of school and their school is really tough about missed work and missed days. It is a lot of effort, but they do manage to make everything up. It helps to e-mail the teachers when you are out. It can also help to explain your medical condition to them. Then they know that you are serious about school and can't help the absences...
  19. This strategy has worked well for me too. It is difficult, but well worth it. You people with DH can be very helpful to those of us who don't have it. What brand of rice noodles do you tolerate? I can't find a chocolate either. I tried very hard. I tried all sorts. If you come up with one, please let me know. I don't care if I have to order...
  20. I don't notice until the D comes the next morning. I only have problems with lactose intolerance when I'm glutened so it might be some strange combo effect.
  21. My symptoms got better and worse too, from when I was very small until diagnosis.
  22. I'm the same. Get any guns etc. out of the house. So something soothing. Music, gardening. I watch sad dramas and cry. Remember the people who need you. Most important is to tell yourself that it is just the gluten and things will seem better once the reaction is over.
  23. A different facility does no good if materials are obtained from someone else without a different facility. Unless they are testing things as they come in, you can't know. How paranoid is too paranoid depends on how easily you get sick, and how sick you get. Edited to state that this would only apply if gluten containing grains are involved somewhere...
  24. A micron is a measure of distance: Open Original Shared Link You can't measure gluten with distance.
  25. I've been growing my own. It's pretty easy and doesn't take up much space in the garden. That way you can use fresh in season which taste much better too.
