  1. I guess that makes it simple.
  2. I can't believe anybody would stay on this diet unless they had to. The first time I read about celiac I was shocked at how restrictive the diet would be. I hoped it was something I'd never have to face, but here I am, not officially diagnosed, but definitely gluten intolerant. I also fit the northern European category. I prefer to tell restaurant staff...
  3. FWIW, I've been eating Eggbeaters almost daily for two years and have never had a problem with them. When I went gluten-free, I needed a new source of low-fat protein to replace the soy (and gluten!) sausages I so loved.
  4. Did you order the steamed veggies without butter and seasoning? Those veggies will get me every time if I forget to customize the order. I have no idea what they do to their butter but it has to be full of gluten. A few weeks ago we ordered take-out which is great because you can order online and customize everything in writing. DH ordered the regular...
  5. I never thought about it but it probably is good for relieving stress. I started crocheting after having broken my right wrist. I had a lot of pain and discomfort so the crochet "rehab" worked miracles. The wrist has long healed but I'm still crocheting. I never had much anxiety with the gluten-free lifestyle other than tears of joy when I found a great...
  6. So glad you survived. I've used them and never had any problems. If you have some left over which I always do, they freeze nicely. I freeze them in an ice cube tray and the amount is usually just right for most recipes.
  7. Thank you! For some reason, I kept getting stuck at the regular Bisquick recipe sites. I found the dumping recipe with the Chicken & Dumplings recipe. I can't wait to try it.
  8. I finally found it today at Publix - $4.19 - and was so excited to bring it home. I knew it wouldn't be exactly like regular Bisquick but I was very disappointed to see shortening isn't even included. We might as well use any of the other gluten-free baking mixes out there if we have to add our own eggs and shortening. I wanted dumplings and there isn't even...
  9. This thread has made my day. I can't stop laughing. Earlier this year we had to travel up to South Carolina to visit the BIL in Greenville. One morning we were stuck eating at a Waffle House. Not my choice but DH was starving. I carefully ordered eggs and bacon, explaining I'm "allergic" to wheat. I've found most people know what allergy is so that's...
  10. We have four cats and I've found Dr. Elsey's to be the least dusty of the clay clumping litters. They refused Feline Pine and I heard horror stories about the newsprint one. Corn is out . . the last thing we need is grain sitting around to attract bugs here in south Florida. This stuff makes very solid clumps with virtually no odor if scooped daily ...
  11. Chicken with Wild Rice is also my favorite and must-have to keep on hand at all times. I hadn't seen this list but I just bought several cans this week. All of them had the new "No MSG" white banner across the top of the label - and nothing is in the list of ingredients that would make be think it contained gluten. The label also clearly states "Contains...
  12. I take my own little piece of gluten-free bread when we're having the Lord's Supper (also Baptist). When I go forward to take the bread and juice, I open my hand so the pastor sees the bread. It always brings a smile and no explanation seems necessary. The juice is served in tiny disposable cups so that's not a problem.
  13. Forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere, but I just received a notice from the FDA that this product is being recalled due to unlabeled wheat and barley. Open Original Shared Link
  14. Thank you! I love your suggestion of mixing them in big ziplock bags. It would also cut down on the seemingly hundreds of half-used bags in the fridge and pantry.
  15. What flour mix did you use? The ONLY chocolate cake I ever made before going gluten-free was the Wacky Cake. My mother always made it as did my grandmothers. It really is the best cake ever. I've been afraid to try it with gluten-free flour and am so glad you posted this.

    ARCHIVED Burger King!

I haven't been back there since going gluten-free. The last time I ate at Burger King, I had a big fat onion ring mixed in with my fries. I thought, "Yay, I love their onion rings!" If that happened now, I'd cry. I would be terrified of CC no matter how many dedicated fryers they have.
  17. Thank you! This sounds wonderful. Don't laugh but I currently have 7 cartons of reduced fat cream cheese and chives in the fridge, plus the two that are open (one strictly gluten-free and one contaminated by the husband). I often have corn tortillas rolled up with cream cheese in the middle for breakfast when the husband has his bagels and cream cheese. Not...
  18. I finally got up my courage to try the rum cake which has become a holiday tradition in our household. I'm not much of a baker and tinkering with cake recipes makes me very nervous. It came out slightly smaller than the original and the color didn't seem to be as dark . . . still very pretty. I used a light rum instead of the dark so perhaps that's one reason...
  19. Thank you . . . this sounds very good. I can't wait to try them. I've been craving thin ginger snaps for a long time.
  20. I used a lot of Thayer's slippery elm lozenges when I had the flu last September and didn't have any problems with them. I felt like they made my stomach feel better as well as soothing my sore throat. I've heard slippery elm is supposed to be soothing to your insides.
  21. I bought one on Friday and although it was priced at $2.88, they rang it up at $1.81. If I hadn't been in a hurry, I would have gone back in and gotten a few more. I hope the mark-down doesn't mean they're discontinuing them so soon. At this price, you could have fun playing around with them!
  22. Just be careful to read the labels as some contain soy sauce. I learned this the hard way when Stubb's BBQ sauce changed their recipe. I had been using Stubb's for years and never had a problem and then all the sudden, I was sick. The next day I was trying to figure out what happened and that's when I remembered opening a new bottle of Stubb's at dinner...
  23. I eat the Corn Chex and Honey Nut Chex dry out of the bag for a snack and haven't experienced any problems with them. Yet.
  24. Somebody here recently mentioned they used Open Original Shared Link in place of the French-fried onions. It sounds like it would work very well. Please let us know how it turns out. I haven't made a green bean casserole since going gluten-free.
  25. I'm drooling over all these great menus. Everything sounds so good! We're only having four this year so I'm keeping it rather simple . . . Roast turkey (bought a 13 pounder) Dressing baked outside the bird (made for the gluten eaters) Wild Rice Pilaf with celery, onions & mushrooms Giblet Gravy (gluten-free!) Cranberry Sauce Four...
