I have also developed problems with sesame. I have not eaten any in over two months. I wasn't sure at first that it was causing me to have horrible reflux, but then I ate a kind bar that was coated with sesame seeds and dark chocolate and bam...heartburn city. I can eat all the other kind bars without any problems. Also could your mixed nuts have possible...

I tried my dog (german shephard) on this (Nutro lamb and rice) and it did not agree with him at all. Constant upset stomach and diarrhea. We switched him to a completly grain free dog food. We now use Taste of the Wild High Prairie Canine Formula. We originally started him on the Wetlands Canine Formula and he didn't do well with that either. I'm thinking...

ARCHIVED Behavior And Appetite
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I tried to remind him of how I used to be when "Aunt Flo" would visit before gluen free. He told me I needed to take something because I was so vicious. Now a few cramps but otherwise nothing bad. I also reminded him of how my father (I suspect is celiac or at least gluten intolerent) has severe mood swings and can get angry and have grown up "temper tantrums... -
I see no reason why you cant breastfeed. Just follow the diet as best as you can. I breast fed my oldest for 14 months and supplemented with formula and exclusively breast fed my youngest for 16 months and modified my diet drastically (no dairy, tree nuts, oats, or rice) because of his food issues(I was not diagnosed at the time but upon reintroduction...

ARCHIVED Behavior And Appetite
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think at first is was the removal of gluten that triggered the increase. It does get better and up until yesterday's tantrum everything has been good despite staying up late on his break. I think he may have gotten cc'd by something I just don't know what yet. When I do challenge him I will be doing it on a weekend when I'm off just in case. It will... -
ARCHIVED Behavior And Appetite

Well we haven't had any of the major melt downs in quite awhile. Yesterday he went off the deep end over applesauce (I asked if he wanted it and he said no so his brother ate it then he changed his mind). Even his daddy commented on how he hasn't done that for some time. He also has pimple like bumps all over his legs. They are very tiny but there. I... -

Sam's Mill is the only gluten free pasta my family and I like and will eat. It's a good price too. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease and the Etiology of Lymphocytic Duodenosis: A Prospective Study - Celiac.com
Roda replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
I find this interesting. I had crypt hyperplasia and villi blunting and chronic inflammation but the path said I had mild IEL's and was below that which would be expected in celiac disease. They recommended serologic testing which I had already. My doctor diagnosed celiac based on positive blood work and the biopsy. -
I went gluten free first in Oct. 2008. I had both boys tested after my diagnosis and they were negative. We kept a shared kitchen and still do but had to really crack down and be strict about it. My youngest one went gluten free last month since his blood work was positive. My oldest one still is not gluten free since I wanted him retested. His results...

Yes you can develop a intolerence to oats. The first time I tried them, bobs gluten free oats, (7 mo. after going gluten free) I had a bad reaction of reflux, belly pain/bloating, constipation and a painful blistering rash on my bottom that lasted almost a week. Then a little over a year gluten free I started having symptoms of abd pain, reflux and diarrhea...

Roda replied to ChristyL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Here is a post about supplies. Mind you the most recent list in this topic if from 2009 so may be outdated, but there is contact information listed with each item. It also may give you a place to start. I would start with post 13 on. -
ARCHIVED Christmas Day, Everone Brought Gluten!
Roda replied to norahsmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's your house so you can set the rules for noone to bring in gluten. Maybe next time you could just do a collection of money and do all the shopping/preparing yourself (maybe family would be willing to come over and help) that way you know she is safe. -
ARCHIVED The Easiest Bread I've Ever Made.
Roda replied to coffeetime's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Here is another twist on this. I make these all the time. I made them for my husbands step mother, who is from Brazil, and she was thrilled. She said they tasted just like what she used to eat. She recently sent me some imported sour manioc starch with a recipe on the back for pao de queijo. I want to try it but need to get the recipe translated to... -

ARCHIVED Help With Test Results Please
Roda replied to judysj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Judy.. I was wondering how your CT scan went? Hope it went well. -
I had a completely gluten free birthday party for my youngest son on Wednesday. The grandmother of one of the little boys who came asked me about his cake. So I told her that I made it for him since he can't eat wheat, barley, rye or oats. She said "I was told I was allergic to wheat. It really is better for you, but I guess not if you are allergic. ...

ARCHIVED Endoscopy Thursday
Roda replied to TooManyHats's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Make sure your doctor takes at least six samples from different areas in the small bowel. Damage can be patchy so multiple samples will help up the odds they get what they need. -
ARCHIVED Corn Tortillas
Roda replied to ENF's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had the same problem. I found that Mission has yellow corn tortillas in a package of about 25 and it says gluten free on the back. For the most part, no more waste. -

ARCHIVED More Cross-Contamination Advice
Roda replied to HonoluluVic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you can't come to some sort of compromise, do you have a place of your own you can move back to in an attempt to get your health back and still try to salvage the relationship? Also I noticed you mentioned you were sharing a toaster. It is an absolute must you have your own toaster. If you use the old one you are contaminiting your gluten free bread... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bisquick
Roda replied to BethM55's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We love the Betty Crocker gluten free Bisquik in our house. I've got nothing but good to say about it. We LOVE the pancake and waffles! I have made the shortcakes and they were good too. I recently make russian tea cakes and with a little tweaking from some suggestions from here I believe they will be even better and they were good just crumbled. We... -
I'm here to tell you that I made the best cake out of the yellow cake mix for my little boy's birthday party yesterday. It was a big hit with everyone and is super moist still today. I made two boxes mixed according to the package directions then added in 4 oz of softened cream cheese and mixed it well into the batter. I baked in in a 13 x 9 pan until...

Just an update guys, the cake I ended up making was a sucess!!! I mixed up two yellow Betty Crocker yellow cake mixes and then added in 4 oz sofened cream cheese to the batter. It baked up nice and after it cooled I put in the freezer. This morning after work I took it out of the freezer, cut it how I needed, and assembled and frosted it. When it was...

I was fine for a year after going gluten free then in Jan. of this year I started with horrible heartburn again but instead of C I started in with D. I initally thought it was my gallbladder and did have tests that revealed a suboptimal functioning gallbladder but not bad enough to take out. Problems continued so I eliminated dairy for 6 weeks and saw no...

ARCHIVED Still Frustrated Not Knowing If I Have Celiac Or Not
Roda replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with wolicki that you should consider counseling and not brush it off. All of your posts have the same underlying problem. A good skilled counsler could help you work through those feelings.
