Really, calling whatever drug therapy they're trying to develop a "vaccine" is a misnomer. If I'm not mistaken, a vaccine protects you from contracting a disease in the first place, usually a contagious one (flu, measels, malaria, etc etc). In order to prevent someone from getting Celiac disease, you'd have to change their genetics!! Just a point. ...

I still can't believe they only let you through security at the airport with a bag of sunflower seeds. Now THAT is ridiculous. I always bring my own food on flights with me, regardless of whether they have gluten-free options or not (just in case). If it's domestic, I put something in a container for later. If it's international, I'll make sure either to...

It could be that you did get into something you shouldn't have during your vacation, and it didn't hit you until you got back. Could be the acumulation of possible CC, bad PMDD/period, the weather, stress, etc etc. Now, if you broke your toe I hope you got that checked out. But like Brandiwine said, don't run to the doctor just yet. Take care of yourself... -
I used to cook eggs into rice all the time. with minced veggies, chilli pepper, so good! An egg a week is a good goal, even if you have to put up with a brief stink.

That's just it! I covered them with mulch and netting over the winter. There were no holes or anything. Just... poof! So weird. I did plant a couple cloves this spring so will have garlic chives at least. -

You should INSIST on getting a biopsy done. Blood test can often show false-negatives, or the Celiac hadn't kicked in enough when you were last tested. One of my biggest symptoms was anxiety. My blood tests came back negative twice, possibly due to the fact that its on both sides of my family. My sister's also came back negative, but they saw vili damage... -
I think we've all done that before, then are super incredibly careful afterwards. My best (er, worst) example is that I recently discovered I've been using shampoo with wheat protein in it for months! Like, I've bought it several times and never noticed. The conditioner has oat protein, which is fine, so I mustn't have read the shampoo label well enough....

And last night when I got home one of my strings had popped! ooh, the poor thing. I've put it in its case where it should be a bit safer. I believe my man has an extra humidifier (he has at least 6 guitars), so I'll try that. I'll get him to restring it for me after it's had time to rest. Poor little cruddy made in china classical. It had a pretty good sound...

Celiac Disease doesn't have to define who you are, but it can't simply be ignored. Well, ok, it can if you want, but that would be choosing a lifetime of health issues. Sure, might not be life-threatening, but do you really want to spend your whole life feeling like crud most of the time? Even in a "bachelor fridge" you should be able to scrounge up something...

woo, that was a good speed read... So, now that it's gone from perpetual winter to 30c in about a month... man the weather has been weird this year... I don't have any ground to plant things in, but I do have a good-sized deck, so this is year two for my container garden. I started planting at the end of April/beginning of May, and have lettuce (which... -
I can't do eggs either, cause they just make me feel like crud. I can't remember if they caused smelly poos, but it makes sense to me that a: if it's the first time you've had them in forever, your body might have had a bit of trouble with them. Maybe it won't be as bad the next time. But if you don't get a rash or your usual reactions, then I'd call that...

ARCHIVED Newbie Going It Alone - Would Love Some Advice
Pegleg84 replied to Hd7747474's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As people with, er, digestive issues, we tend to become pretty familiar with our poo... Get the blood tests done. If they come back positive, there you go. If they don't, ask for a biopsy. (False negatives on blood tests are common). I think you can cut back on gluten while waiting to get test done, but still have to be eating the equivalent of a couple... -

ARCHIVED Newbie Going It Alone - Would Love Some Advice
Pegleg84 replied to Hd7747474's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum! Yep, that does sound like Celiac. I was definitely at the "everything I eat makes me feel like crud" point when I went gluten-free. (also, no worries about "icky" details. We talk about that stuff all the time here). As Brandywine suggested, you should see your doctor and try to get testing done before you go completely gluten-free... -

ARCHIVED Okay Curious Anyone Feel Sicker In The Summer
Pegleg84 replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I definitely have trouble with humidity. It's a bit better since going off dairy and soy, but it can mean sinus headaches, balance problems, nausea, not fun. I'm not looking forward to the summer, when it gets so stuffy that I basically haul myself between home-subway-work and try not to pass out. I'd recommend drinking lots and lots of water, keeping... -
thanks guys. I didn't really think it was cc, but hey, you never know. I'm attacking it with apple cider vinegar, and I'm still the same in a couple days I'll get it checked out, to know what's up. No way am I taking antibiotics unless I absolutely have to. Yep, I had the evil flu about a month ago, both me and the man. Worst cold I've had in a while....

Hi all Well, you know how Celiacs are, any time we get sick, or something unusual is going on, the first thing we wonder is What did I eat!? I've had a weird sore throat all this week. I was wiped on the weekend, and on tuesday stayed home cause I was exausted, but didn't have any cold symptoms other than a scratchy sore throat, and a general icky...

if it makes you feel like crud, don't eat it. Simple. You definitely do not need to see a therapist. Hope the potato-challenge effects wear off quick.

ARCHIVED "well We Could Go.... Oh Wait You Can't Eat Anything"
Pegleg84 replied to EmiPark210's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Snacks! Lots of em. As others have already said. Also, when you do have chance to cook, make extra of whatever so you can warm it up on the fly, maybe something that will keep in the fridge for a few days, or freeze it. I'm sure once you've been there for a while longer, you'll learn what's safe and what's not and it'll get easier. You might also have to... -

ARCHIVED Do You Think A Person Can "recover" From Gluten Intolerance?
Pegleg84 replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There's still not a lot of definitive research on Gluten intolerance, so... I can't say anything for sure, but I would think not. If she's never been tested for Celiac, maybe now is a good time to do it when she's eating gluten again. If it comes back negative, at least she'll know that it's not that. However, even if she has an intolerance, symptoms will... -

ARCHIVED My Only Celiac Friend Started Eating Gluten Again, And I Feel Alone.
Pegleg84 replied to rorenchan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a few friends who are Celiac, and several of my family are as well. Mostly I worry about my sister who isn't as strict with the diet as she should be. It's her choice, and her health, but I'm afraid of the long term impact. I think she's trying harder right now, but she definitely cheats. You can't make your friend's decisions for her, but you... -
I also buy Thai rice in 10lb bags (cause for someone who eats it several times a week, its much much cheaper) and have never run into contaminants in my rice. And as for "normal" poos, if I have them, its always a good sign, but its certainly not consistent.

ARCHIVED Help Please, Soy Allergy And Now Reacting To Foods I Eat Daily
Pegleg84 replied to julissa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
oh, just did a bit of looking and found this nice bit of attempted research on the wax issue: Open Original Shared Link she contacted a bunch of experts, and even a commercial food wax producer to find out if waxes used on our produce might have gluten/casein/soy in them. Answer: yes, there are some, but it's very uncommon, so probably not worth worrying... -

ARCHIVED Help Please, Soy Allergy And Now Reacting To Foods I Eat Daily
Pegleg84 replied to julissa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
soy on apples!!?? whaat?? I don't eat them very often, so not sure if I've reacted to this alleged coating or not, but man! One more thing to worry about! I try to buy organic these days, worrying more about the pesticides, but now I will definitely only get organic and check that they're ok. (damn you soy!!!) Hope you can find a safe source of produce... -

ARCHIVED The New Celiac Drug Is Out There
Pegleg84 replied to gatita's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Any product claiming to be a "cure" "vaccine" or "solution" to Celiac disease I look at with a great amount of scepticism, If someday a drug is developed and tried, tested and shown to actually work, then I'd be willing to give it a shot. But I would not put myself through a trial and take the risk of ruining my health. Also, I won't take drugs of any sort...
