ARCHIVED New Here, I Think I'm Doing It Wrong
mamaw replied to thepeach80's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry if I read your post wrong.... but again you mention your vodka as having gluten? Why are you drinking it then? I guess I'm confused with your post....Beth's post was a great post as she is fairly new & much younger than I....I'm an old time celiac so my thoughts are different but Beth stated it very... -
ARCHIVED New Here, I Think I'm Doing It Wrong
mamaw replied to thepeach80's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If there are not ground rules at home I would be inclined to say to are getting CC.....And if your vodka contains gluten then of course you would be getting gluten.... Not to be rude but it sounds like you are gluten-free to a degree but not totally gluten-free. Is that because you don't have a formal dx's? many... -
ARCHIVED Mildest Tasting Honey?
mamaw replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
clover, and it should be local honey not honey from other countries or a combo from other countries & the US...You should be able to find locally sourced honey ( clover) from your next of the woods...Make sure it is PURE honey.... oddly some honey is just sugars & such not true honey... What has become of... -

mamaw replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Klondike also make bars with cookies in them & some with candy so be careful to pick the ones that are gluten-free....We eat those often but just the plain vanilla with choc. coating.. Never cared for all the cookie/candy ones... -
yes, I agree it does take time to heal the gut.....did you read all ingredients in the protein shake? Some of them use dairy, sprouted barley ( which I avoid even tho some feel it is okay because it is used before the flower appears ) then many have soy which again can be a problem for many....Lastly your gut may...

I would not take mineral oil daily either but a week in the hospital they resorted to that for several days as nothing they gave me worked .. That was there last thought before surgery so I was glad to swallow that for three days over surgery...... Senna is natural but again not good on a daily basis...Some...

ARCHIVED And The Torture Begins...
mamaw replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You probably already know the drill: When life hands you lemons make lemonade"..... when I see , smell or hear of something that puts me over the top, I either go home & make a copycat or order it gluten-free & treat myself... And after you have been gluten-free for a period of time your taste & desires will... -
I personally would not use Senna on a daily basis.... I would & do use miralax on a daily basis... Bowels can rupture & just cease their ability to push stool through when to much medicine is given...perforated bowel...... It doesn't matter if it is natural or not too much is too much.. One should always ...

This topic has been addressed so many times here.... I for one have chronic C.... I have tried everything except a bomb.... I was in hospital for over a week with this issue, they couldn't even find a fix!... Here is what I do, miralax up to three times a day, fiber tablets & mineral oil once every couple of months...

I've made several recipes from but the book , some are easier than others.... I have never had a problem with Nicole Hunn's or better batter... I do think for the new bread makers learning, gluten-free bread its self is a bit harder to master......I know yeast does not like me & it took awhile for yeast &...

ARCHIVED First Set Back
mamaw replied to Wi11ow's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just wanted to throw another tidbit out there.....some people eat only the same foods forever with no problems but for others they develop vitamin & mineral deficiency & also food deprivation because their food choices are lacking in healthy quality...so if you plan on a very limited diet for a long period... -
I applaud you for learning how to make foods from scratch... I have a food mill ( large one) for canning tomatoes & sauses.. That is the only time I use it..... I have a small coffee mill used for grinding up seeds...... While most of the foods you mentioned can be easily found Ie: applesauce , ect. I no longer feel like...

mamaw replied to Wi11ow's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED What Do I Do?
mamaw replied to Kfrog's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My opinion is if you are happy with the better health you are starting to have & can live with the pathology report then I would never subject my body to ever eating gluten again.. And then lets not forget that your parent has celiac as well....for me those two would seal it for me..... the biopsies could be negative... -

ARCHIVED Emotional Stress On Yourself, And Loved Ones
mamaw replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do have another comment! sorry but you may not like this one! You mentioned you will lay low until you & your boyfriend find a house then you will get into it more about celiac... I can honestly say this thought or to think it will be better to push the celiac diet after you are together is a bomb waiting to explode... -
ARCHIVED Sit Down Dinner Wedding Reception Help!
mamaw replied to GFDonna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I think most chef's are a wear of gluten free.. I usually make my judgment call after speaking with the chef.. If I feel confident that the chef has knowledge about gluten-free then I send in my RSVP...if I don't feel they have any idea about gluten-free then I still go but eat before hand or take my own... -

ARCHIVED Emotional Stress On Yourself, And Loved Ones
mamaw replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Stress can be a major issue in the beginning.. remember it is a lifestyle for life change...Celiac is hard to understand with over 300 different symptoms & we all react so different . It is hard for us with celiac to understand at times so why would it be easy for a non celiac person.....your boyfriend is understandably... -

mamaw replied to Maggie07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Sit Down Dinner Wedding Reception Help!
mamaw replied to GFDonna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Call the place where the reception is going to be held & ask if the reception is being catered by one of their chefs , if so ask to speak to the chef... Most always the chef can prepare gluten-free chicken... In my neck of the woods the chicken usually is stuffed chicken breast , not gluten-free but the chef ... -
