  1. I would suggest that when you visit, see if you can just hang out in the cafeteria and watch. If you see someone going in to the gluten-free area - ask them about their experiences. When I was touring colleges with my youngest - we would stop kids and ask them questions and none of them seem to mind (or at least they were all polite about it! )
  2. Great! The only ones I have seen were a Wheatfilled Horror!
  3. I have no idea of it is just some chemical made in a lab or made from real malt. It used to be real malt. I guess the best place to get info would be from Kellogg's?
  4. Don"t those things contain LOTS of wheat? Do they make gluten-free products?
  5. Every once in a while, I like to put this on here: If you would like recipes or more info or help with the things we are making for dinner - I think I can speak for most of us - we are happy to help. Part of the purpose of this thread has been to help people who aren't sure what they can eat or are new to cooking. For myself - if you ask me a question...
  6. malt - malt comes from barley
  7. Last night I "grilled" some chicken. Then put it on a nice salad - spinach, romaine, red bell peppers, orange slices, red onions, feta and toasted pecans with vinaigrette. Had to toast the pecans as they had been in the freezer & fridge for a LONG time. Made them much tastier!
  8. Not sure. That is the author's own opinion. Not sure he really understands the difference in the procedures.
  9. Once again..... these are in reference to a different type of procedure/equipment than what is used for a routine endoscopy to diagnose ulcers, Celiac, etc. Ask your doctor if he will be using this to look at additional areas like pancreas and bile ducts.
  10. You might want to keep a food log & see if you can find a different food or pattern that bothers you.
  11. Last night we went to a local restaurant. I had a lovely trout almondine with a cauliflower puree and green beans. YUM! Tonight I will indoor "grill" some chicken an we will have a nice big salad.
  12. California Pizza Kitchen. Pei Wei, PF Changs, Outback, Bonefish Grill - all national chains
  13. I am sorry about that. Unfortunately, that is part of these open forums. I don't remember how positive your blood tests were, maybe you can skip the endo? Talk to your doctor about that and if there are other reasons he/ she wants to do one. I actually think most people with a positive blood for Celiac that don't take the endo are because the...
  14. 6 weeks isn't very long. It can take a year to get the whole system healed and balanced and working again. And then there is the colitis causing issues.....
  15. Once again, those are an entirely different type of scope and procedure.
  16. Those are not what is used for regular endoscopies to look for Celiac disease. The scopes in the news story are for - "The scopes are used for a procedure called ERCP, or Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography, in which the devices are used with contrast dyes and X-rays to help doctors locate and treat blockages in the bile and pancreatic ducts...
  17. I have to say it doesn't sound like classic Dermatitis Herpetiformis. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link

  19. This list doesn not contain every candy that is gluten-free. But its a nice place to start. Open Original Shared Link Edited to add - US candy
  20. We have separate tubes because we have 2 sinks in the bathroom. But on vacation, we share toothpaste.
  21. Find out what they do to feed the gluten-free students. You may be able to meet people in the dining hall. For example, at my boys' college, the sandwich station pulls out a purple box with the gluten-free bread, cutting board, etc for a gluten-free person. My son met girls this way.
  22. Great! We used some left over chicken chili on nachos. I really need to figure out how to cook now M is at college and no longer eating left overs for lunch!
  23. Don't you want to get it over with so you can go gluten free and start to feel better?
  24. Hard to be diagnosed with Celiac if you are eating gluten free. The blood tests and endoscopy need you to be eating gluten to get positive results. I hope the doctors figure out what is wrong with you soon.
