  1. Looks like Laura was on the menu last night! Last night burgers, oven fries and cantelope. Tonight - KFG lasagna
  2. I'm not certain but if you were saying you are self diagnosed - I don't think so. You were medically diagnosed by blood and biopsy. I am sorry your family are being such jerks. Maybe if you told them how you feel? Maybe if you reminded the hub about how much gluten-free Mac and cheese costs? I cook what I want to eat so they usually eat gluten-free....
  3. I don't really know what it is. I looked it up and it looks like it is malted barley?
  4. Just wash it good. No big deal.
  5. Perhaps he doesn't have Celiac disease? He only had 1 test very slightly over normal, so there is no way to really know without a endoscopy while eating gluten. Here are a couple of things. There is more info on the U of C site about slightly elevated TTGs not necessarily pointing to Celiac. Open Original Shared Link How does one rule out...
  6. When I heard the researchers talking about this, they said some things not mentioned in the article. They said it wasn't meant to make it so Celiacs could eat gluten. It was meant to take when you eat out as gluten-free as possible or traveling to help with a little accidental gluten. The way it works is, it breaks the gluten down in the stomach...
  7. I couldn't get past the nonsense about not eating vinegar.
  8. Open Original Shared Link Perhaps this would give you some idea of what celiac is and how it " works"?
  9. I didn't give my " opinion ". I gave a link to actual Celiac researchers / experts. You can learn a lot form The Univ of Chicago Celiac center site. It is easy to read and understand. In Celiac , the body isn't attacking the colon, it's the small intestine. When you eat gluten, the presence of it in the small intestine, causes us to produce antibodies...
  10. As a mom of a 21 yr old - that is close to your age - I can say that young people seem familiar with Celiac. They may not know the name but if you explain its the " no gluten thing", they will have heard of it. I think nice girls won't mind. Going to Pf. Chang's and ordering off the gluten-free menu and sharing is a great date. The food doesn't taste...
  11. A lot of these things will likely get better. Right now you are suffering from malnourishment - no matter how well you eat, your intestines aren't absorbing it properly. Maybe you could see if the GI could fit you in sooner? Or put you on a cancellation list? You need to continue eating gluten until all testing is finished to help ensure an accurate...
  12. She would have to swallow a grain/ seed. I doubt a grain could continually fly around in the air? I know, some will disagree but I think common sense is that it isn't gluten. Could she be allergic to it? That would be different.
  13. Not sure which is worse - that she does these bogus procedures or that she believes they are real.
  14. Exactly! Suggesting is one thing... A detailed letter is another. For example, I have dry eyes. My eye doctor ( not an MD) mentions it. She says it doesn't seem as bad as her patients with Sjorgen's. She tells me she notices it in her Celiac patients. But says we will monitor it, and if it gets worse, she will refer me to a doctor who diagnoses...
  15. I wonder what her dentist said when presented with this? I think he should run it by a lawyer before sending it. It may look like he is diagnosing outside the legal limits on a dentist.
  16. If you are on any hormone replacements, perhaps you need to check with the doctor and see if the dosage needs to be changed? As our damaged intestines heal, we absorb better. That includes medications. If this continues much longer, you will want to see the doctor anyway. He/she may want to send you for a mamogram.
  17. Wouldn't open for me. FDA regulations? Not sure what that has to do with gluten? Look.... Its bad enough we have to give up gluten..... Lose the spontaneity to eat out wherever we want,..... All the other crap.. We don't need people spreading rumors/myths. We don't need people who want to try to scare us out of foods...... Edit : I got to the...
  18. I have never found any reliable info that coffee beans/ grounds would be cc'd. It doesn't take sense as coffee beans are grown and harvested and processed so uniquely.
  19. I think it has more to do with either your lupus or your stamina. If you haven't felt well for long time, you might need to build up your ability to stand for long periods, run after kids, cleaning the house, etc.
  20. I can find this brand. It not the " rye". I even checked in Colorado where it is made!
  21. A potato smoosher: Open Original Shared Link
  22. I make applesauce- chop up apples, cook, smoosh with a hand potatoe smoosher. If you want the apple sauce really unchunky - use a blender or your food processor. I wouldn't understand a ricer or food mill. same for mashed potatoes - you would cook then smoosh. If you like the mashed potatoes really creamy, you could use a hand mixer or your big mixer...
  23. I think you need to wait for the biopsy results before concluding anything. celiac damage needs to be looked at under a microscope.
  24. My TTG IGA was very positive after a year. I was extremely gluten-free. My original was like yours - >100 . Who knows how over! It might have been fifty million trillion zillion. I put a link on your other thread from Celiac experts. The thing to do is to see how it goes down in 6-8 months of serious gluten-free. And, since you were gluten-free...
  25. It can take a long time for the antibodies to go down. It is also possible you weren't completely gluten-free. Because you weren't doing the diet for Celiac, you may not have realized all the places you can find gluten - like soy sauce or taking a burger off of a bun and eating it. Open Original Shared Link What is the half-life of antibodies in...
