ARCHIVED Problems Galore, Doctors Opinions & Finding The Problem
kareng replied to Emirii's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am just going to comment on the gluten-free food issue - there is no reason a hub can't have gluten. He needs to be careful in the home and brush & floss well before kissing you. Many foods are naturally gluten-free, so they don't need to cost more. Chili, BBQ, veggies, fruit, meats, beans, etc. Basically, it's baked goods and pasta that are... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer/ale
kareng replied to rick797's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think you have that a bit backwards. Greens gluten-free beers aren't made with barley. Estrella is made with barley. - so it is " de- glutened". In the US, the goverment has said that these supposedly " de- glutened" beers cannot be called gluten-free because of the lack of accurate testing for barley in alcohol. In the US, there are many truly gluten... -
ARCHIVED Pityrosporum Folliculitis/acne
kareng replied to moosemalibu's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Is this in a shampoo? Do you use it on your face or just your body? Do you just use it once a week? I am asking for my son. Just went up and looked again. Nizarol is shampoo you used on your face? It contains the ketoconazole? Got to Target & they don't have these & I started confusing myself. Which is easy to do.- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Calcified Nodule Cyst – Ct Scan And Ultrasound + More
kareng replied to Astrongtower's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Then see a dentist & get one of those nightguards. None of these things are really related to Celiac. They are just common problems lots of people have. I am afraid you are making them into something horrible in your head. Relax. -
ARCHIVED Calcified Nodule Cyst – Ct Scan And Ultrasound + More
kareng replied to Astrongtower's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If it is harder to read - go see an eye doctor for an exam. Stretch. If you stay in the same postion for hours, it will cause issues. Really - don't over think this. Its just common sense and not that serious. Lots of people need glasses & strain their necks, etc. -
The thing is - those tacos are not that delicious in real life.

ARCHIVED Cleaning All My Daughters Plates Etc
kareng replied to vyky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You don't need separate cookware if you are able to clean the pots well. Cast iron is porous, so it is hard to clean and would need to be dedicated gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Should I Throw Out My Colander And Cutting Board?
kareng replied to Kias4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to use white vinegar and water on my mixer and other things where gluten flour stuck on (pre-Celiac). You can't "kill" gluten. You can burn it off in a oven cleaning cycle. Otherwise you just have to wipe/wash & rinse it off. And that goes for a gluten eating spouse who wants a little loving! -
ARCHIVED Should I Throw Out My Colander And Cutting Board?
kareng replied to Kias4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's a matter of if you can get them really clean, even in the little holes and cracks. If you think you can get each hole in the colander clean, great! A couple of times through the dishwasher after a good soak in some vinegar and water - might be good enough. Not sure how you can get all the little crumbs out of the wood. -
ARCHIVED Klondike Bars
kareng replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It will say wheat, rye, barley or barley malt. Those are the usual ones. There are some odd wheats like spelt, but they wouldn't be in things like Klondike bars. They are for ...sort of specialty breads, crackers, etc. rye really isn't in much but a bread or a cracker, usually with wheat. Here's a list. It has some things on it that, if listed as an... -
ARCHIVED How To Deal With Servers Who Don't Think Celiac Is Real
kareng replied to ChelseaS's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I say I have to eat gluten-free for medical reasons. Or I have celiac disease. I even said to a waiter ". I will get sick". That said - you have been diagnosed for 1 month. You shouldn't be chancing all these places until you are more healed and know what is gluten-free and what isn't. For example - those chips were 100% corn but you didn't know that... -
The google ads change by what you look at. If we mention pizza a bunch..... We might get a Pizza Hut ad. Right now I have liposuction - maybe because I have been commenting on the poster getting weight loss surgery. When we were talking about dating, a dubious site about dating popped up. If it's really inappropriate, you can PM Scott with the link...

ARCHIVED Only Endoscopy?
kareng replied to ronswanson's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I looked up a few things and it seems the sleeve is recommended for " sprue ". That is an old name for Celiac Sprue. Google autoimmune and bariatric and you should find things like that. The good thing about the sleeve is you can adjust/ remove it. Is that correct? To me it seems less drastic than a bypass. I have a few friends with that, and I am not... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
kareng replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It's a casserole or crockpot thing. Tonight we are having oven chicken spinach risotto! Yummy! Love a one dish dinner! Not in the KFG but in my favorite red enamel coverded iron pan. My hub calls it a fancy Dutch oven. The unfancy one is cast iron and it's what we make the " cobbler" in the fire. Or Gumbo.... Or green chile casserole..... -
ARCHIVED Only Endoscopy?
kareng replied to ronswanson's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I thought I saw somewhere that people with Celiac can only have certain weight loss procedures. I'm looking to see if I find it. I did find this : Open Original Shared Link "METHODS: We report 5 morbidly obese patients that were diagnosed of celiac disease during preoperative work-up for bariatric surgery. Diagnosis was suspected during routine upper... -

Open Original Shared Link This is just a news article, it isn't directly from the race organizers. We have a service that finds articles related to Celiac Disease and posts them for us. Have you looked at the website? It has a contact " form". It looked like it was working when I just looked at it. Maybe they have a FB page? -
The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Sequel
kareng replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's especially dangerous to drunks on boats without a life jacket and people who live next to a river. But it is gluten free! -
ARCHIVED Kroger List Of Foods That Are Gluten-Free
kareng replied to Mid-Thirties-GlutenFree's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's a lovely list but I wouldn't throw out your Hunts tomato sauce ( as an example) because they didn't put it on this list. These lists are nice guidelines when you are starting gluten-free but they cannot possibly list every product that does not contain gluten. The best way to determine if a food has gluten is to read the label.- 4 replies

Maybe you aren't eating a balanced diet? And your blood sugar is all over the place? Sometimes when people drastically change what they eat, they aren't getting the same fat, protein, fiber, etc. sometimes they get more ..... Sometimes less.
