ARCHIVED Axelrod's Easy-Dieter Cottage Cheese?
kareng replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In the US and Canada, it must label wheat. So it would say " modified food starch ( wheat)". Or something like that. -
ARCHIVED Interpreting Child's Lab Results - Elevated Tissue Transglutaminase
kareng replied to KJF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If the child is eating gluten, insist on the blood work. And,... No, I don't think there is any validity in a fecal test being positive. I have never heard of anyone who sends it in and asks for " Celiac/ gluten" testing to be disappointed and have a negative. They have to justify the $300+ . I know you want the little one to feel better, but there are... -
ARCHIVED Tomato Paste And Sauce
kareng replied to w8in4dave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have seen Contadina tomato paste with flavors that had wheat added. very odd. Let me see if I can find the ingredients on line. Plain tomato paste is gluten free - but as usual, read the ingredients. Open Original Shared Link -

Because, unfortunately, stool tests mean nothing when diagnosing Celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link -

There is a long box at the top of your reply ( or someone told me its on the bottom on some browsers). It has Bold, italics, cross thru. You probably hit that. As for your comment- cold and dairy and sugar do not bother my digestive tract. Of course, I don't eat a gallon at once or even eat it very often. -
ARCHIVED How Do I Put My Information At The Bottom Of My Posts?
kareng replied to ItchyAbby's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Click on yourself and get to your profile area. Upper right of tht stuff is " Edit my Profile". Then in the left of that area is " signature". Have at it. Just remember - no links, name of your company or website, rudeness, etc. same rules as always! Edited to add:! This last sentence isn't aimed at Abby. Is just a reminder to all who may read... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins And Supplements
kareng replied to gilligan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have had good luck at GNC when I have asked for gluten free. Many GNC's are franchises, so I guess some are better than others. Whole Foods and other places like that have a lot of gluten-free options and people who know something about the products. Vitamin Cottage/ Natural Grocers (?) is another good place. Nature Made vitamins say gluten-free on... -
ARCHIVED Any Other Nail Biters/finger Suckers Who Keep Glutening Themselves?
kareng replied to Fourmonkeysjumping's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What is he doing with his fingers to get gluten on them in the classroom? Maybe he needs a class that doesn't have gluten in every project or sensory table? Maybe the teachers can keep him from using pasta in art projects? Maybe he could wash his hands more? -

Do you test them for gluten? If so, to what level? Thanks for helping to clear this up. -
ARCHIVED Ive Developed A Lovely "light Golden Tan" To My Skin. Whats Happening?

Y ou saw a dermatologist, so they don't really know a lot about eyes or livers. The skin color change sounds more serious than a dermatologist could deal with. -
ARCHIVED My Haematologist Says I Should Not Change My Diet.
kareng replied to PaulM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually, due to the fact that you are over 50, they might go ahead and combine the endoscopy (looking at the top half) with a colonoscopy (the lower section) at the same time. They put you under a light anesthesia for that. You know you should have a colonoscopy. When my hub had his first one at 50, they found several big pre-cancerous polyps and removed... -

ARCHIVED Sick From Evergood Sausages Or Dove Dark Chocolate Bar
kareng replied to vallene45's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How long have you been doing this gluten-free thing? Its possible you were reacting to something from earlier in the day. Or it had nothing to do with gluten, , like a virus or food poisoning. Dairy can be hard to digest, especially while healing. Did you use a colander that has been used for wheat pasta to wash and drain the tomatoes? It can be a lot... -

Or the high fructose corn syrup in the coke? Or the acid of the coke? or the carbonation? Or the aspartame if it was a diet coke? Or you have a problem with hops? Or sorghum? Something you ate before you got there? Pretty hard to say. Next time you want to experiment - just buy 1 coke at the grocery and try it. See how that goes. Or just get ... -

ARCHIVED Am I Right To Feel Offended?
kareng replied to maggiesimpson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
She and her kids are staying with you for a week? I would say "Have a nice time. Take my kids & your brother with you with you." And have a nice break from them and cooking for them. Enjoy a couple of hours of quiet. I don't think she was trying to offend you. She just didn't think about it. But you know her and if she is always trying to be... -
ARCHIVED Campbells Soup And Swanson Broth Alerts
kareng replied to LDJofDenver's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't use these products so I'm not sure what the ingredients are. But yeast extract and natural flavors do not contain gluten. I know Campbells has lists, by country, of what they consider gluten-free -- so I guess you could go by those? US list - Open Original Shared Link Canada - Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Joining Your Group...
kareng replied to africanqueen99's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Because Celiac disease is genetic and you must be eating gluten to get a positive result - get all the kids and you and the dad tested before eliminating gluten. Good to know right now how many of you actually have Celiac at this point. -
I just tried that. I must be doing something wrong. Could you explain how you posted the pictures from FB?

ARCHIVED Negative Blood Test, Bummed I Still Have No Answer
kareng replied to Jake'sMom87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Kind of an odd question on a forum that is all about the gluten free diet for people with Celiac Disease or Non-Celiac gluten Intolerance. Eating gluten free is a medical diet, it isn't meant for weight loss. If you think you have Celiac disease, you should get tested before going gluten free. You might find this link helpful. https://www.celiac...
