  1. I would say on the topic of food for work- keep something fun in your desk and purse. Maybe a small pack of peanuts, a Lara or Luna bar, bag of potato chips, snickers bar, M&M's, Go Picnic, etc. That way you will always have something to eat &, if its a fun food, you won't feel as left out. In the beginning of bringing your lunch, bring...
  2. We don't do corn that way. This way is yummy and easy and its "The way we have always done it!". I'll give you J's phone number. But don't call for dinner ideas - phones are not for talking. Please text! I had a friend that got so tired of her kids saying "food" when asked what they wanted to eat, she served them bird food.
  3. Oh yes, W8! We are very cute! Hub said he would be home and grill. Asked 17 yr old....." I don't care. It s all good". 20 yr old " burgers!". So we had burgers - we mix the very lean hamburger with BBQ sauce. Then really good corn on the cob - peel, butter and wrap in foil & grill. Ore Ida crinkle fries in the oven! Forgot I was going to put...
  4. Even chickens like to hire a baby sitter occasionally! Eat some good food for me in Boston! Will be expecting pictures and some tales of raucous behavior!
  5. Its the weekend. Why not just read a little about Celiac? Write down questions for the next few days. Don't do anything drastic. Ease into gluten-free. Maybe instead of graham crackers, you give him Cinnamon Chex. Have grilled chicken, veggies and fruit for dinner...but skip the dinner rolls. Don't analyze every ingredient but don't give him any of...
  6. Everyone's responses are different. It may even have to do with how much gluten you got and what else you ate with it.
  7. You should see the crazy stuff people try to post. Did you know you can buy credit cards and passports? You don't seem like you are going to try to sell us counterfeit Nikes....but, we'll see. (trying to make you smile) Maybe what the ped wanted you to do was do the obvious gluten free stuff and when you have your appointment he/she will discuss...
  8. Here is a thread with a lot of good info: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/
  9. Just because they are a GI, doesn't mean they know anything about Celiac. Many of us have found that out the hard way. I would ask him for some clarification. I find doctors sometimes think what they are saying is obvious to everyone. If he has Celiac, you do have to go all the way gluten free. It is the only way he can heal. Please, don't take our...
  10. Why would you have nothing to eat? BBQ chicken, chili, salads, veggies, fruits, meats, hot dogs, , PB on anything, stir fry, nuts, potatoes, Ore Ida fries, rice, beans, refried beans and tortilla chips, guacamole, etc. I realize you are a kid, but surely your parents realize you were diagnosed with a real illness and would help you with food?
  11. Oh right! People treat them like candy. I forgot they were a medication. Do they have artificial sweetener? Some of those really bother me.
  12. You have been saying that you aren't eating anything but a couple of things which do not add up to a heart healthy diet. I doubt he meant for you to cut all food out. That is not good for your heart, anxiety, mood, muscles, etc. Of course you are low in vitamins, etc...you don't eat. I'm not really sure what is wrong with you or if you are just playing...
  13. If it was wheat, it would say " modified food starch( wheat)"
  14. 2 weeks gluten-free isn't enough time to get the diet right, much less heal up. Give it some time. Are you still eating dairy? You might want to cut it out for a month or 2. The damaged villi is the part that digests dairy so it can cause gas and bloating because they aren't getting digested.
  15. Could you sneak in a Crockpot or toaster oven ? That would in erase your options. Maybe a George Fromen grill? Speak with the disability office at your school. There was a recent court finding that a school that requires you to pay for food must supply nutritious and safe gluten-free food. You can microwave plain chicken or hamburger in a covered bowl...
  16. Just an FYI. ...Lynne hasn't been on this forum since 2005. 8 years.
  17. San Fransisco is one of the better places to eat gluten-free. Of course, I'm referring to real restauruant's not fast food. Nice places will do a better job than a fast food place. I have only been to SF 1 day since I have been gluten-free. I had a lovely breakfast at Mariposa. I can't see how they could have glutened you for breakfast or lunch. I...
  18. Mine is from my primary care doctor. I bet my OB/ gym would write one, too if that was the next doc to see.
  19. I have a note. Its on the prescription pad. I keep it in my wallet. I have never had to use it. I have offered it but never had to use it. I say - get one. It doesn't have to be fancy. Mine is just a brief note that I have Celiac and must not eat wheat, rye and barley. As those can be in many foods, I should bring my own food. I just get the doc...
  20. Not sure how you are getting that. From your 2 references: The prevalence of celiac disease in the general population is between 0.3% and 1%.” “The overall prevalence of celiac disease in not-at-risk groups was 1:133”
  21. That is a real change from a couple of years ago. They weren't allowed to call the companies then.
  22. Interesting....the only thing you took out of this was about the meat. You didn't get the point I think she was trying to make - the acidity in your body stuff is nonsense and to start eating something. Really...in all your other posts, you say your doctors don't know what they are talking about. You go off and diagnosis yourself. Yet, you want to...
  23. You might want to have the doctor check that cough! Potatoes and rice and milk and gluten-free oats are safe for Celiacs. However, some people can't digest milk until they heal. Some people, with or without Celiac, can't digest milk (lactose intolerance). Oats must be labeled gluten-free and even then a few Celiacs have issues with them. It is...
  24. I remember the Gevalia thing. They just kept insisting they have gluten in their coffee even though they don't list it in the ingredients. I think its probably like Starbucks - they don't test for gluten so they won't say gluten-free. Doesn't mean there is any gluten in the coffee. I drink starbucks and any other brands. But if coffee is bothering...
