  1. You will want some b12, too. This helps you use the iron. It's best to take iron by itself. Especially not with calcium foods like dairy, brewed beverages, grains. It will absorb better. When I was very anemic I took 325 mg twice a day. No food or drink other than water 1 hour before and 2 hours after. If it really bothered me, I ate some banana.
  2. Stay home. Why go somewhere that is dangerous to you? You probably wouldn't go visit someone in a war zone. This is dangerous to your health. And it sounds like they have no respect for you or your food. We can't pick our relatives but we can choose whether want to associate with them.
  3. You are close to the u of MD Celiac ct. Matching funds can be a bit picky about who to match to. Not sure if they would match to National assoc for Celiac awareness. I know a robotics team you could donate to thru the school district. Most employers match to school districts. Just saying.... ( just joking, not really soliciting funds...
  4. I went and looked at the product safety sheet for it, but it only lists 2 chemicals. The other ingredients are considered " no big deal" so they don't have to list them. I think the only way would be to ask them directly if it contained gluten. I know that some hand lotions or shampoos have wheat germ oil.
  5. Cypress, That sounds like what used to happen to me back in high school. I worked at a movie theater and whatever the cleaner was would make my fingers tingle and burn and dry out. For years, touching something freshly washed in some public places did that. I think it was an allergic reaction to something in the soap. Either it doesn't bother me...
  6. How awful! It was a coal mine, right? They have horrible dangerous gases and collapses. The Chilian mine was metal or jewels. Those usually don't have the gas that is found in the rock around coal. Think I have bought all the food I need for Turkey day except we get the smoked turkey tomorrow. Fortunately, it's cold because I can't fit the food...
  7. I have a couple of these types of recipes. The flour just thickens the sauce a bit. Some are fine if you leave them out. Otherwise, I have used Pamelas or Kinnick??? Bread & Bun mix. I am going snitch your recipe to try.
  8. Read some of the recent news reports about K2. That stuff is full of man-made chemicals that could kill you. I don't know where you live, but there are lots of places with really good gluten-free pizzas. I get the same toppings I would get on a thin crispy crust. My glutin eaters think it's good, too.
  9. One kitty for your toes & the other under your blanket? Too bad BE isn't there to keep you warm.
  10. Add the kraft Caramel bits ( little round caramel not the big squares). The gluten-free Pantry ones are great, too!
  11. thanks, Jess! the Spit sounds like just our kind of place. Have fun!
  12. Tell your family I said, " Thanks for being the test subjects". I hadn't seen them but thought they sounded interesting. Now I know!
  13. I want to try this. Are you cutting the orange up into bite sized bits or slicing thru with the peel, like on the glass of a drink? Thanks. Did you decide to go to BE's family for T day?
  14. that's pricey! US dollar is basically even with Canadian. Bards, etc is $8-9 here.
  15. Most people don't react to oats so using gluten-free oats is OK. Some people react to soy, eggs or dairy. The bakery can't cater to everyone. They should be able to tell you if the item has oats so you can choose to eat it or not.
  16. How did the dinner come out? My mom was saying I can make scalloped potatoes. I don't put any flour in them. I said " No, really, don't bring anything"" . But she kept insisting. I said will you boil the potatoes in a pot you cook pasta in? Will you use the colander you use for pasta? Then I can't eat it. I think she is getting it, for this week...
  17. That sounds good. The recipe I saw had applesauce - good- 3/4 cup brn sugar - too sweet for me.
  18. For Thanksgiving, because its always at my house & I have to cook, I am making some different things. I am going to try a recipe from the 365 crockpot blogger for scalloped potatoes and a crockpot recipe for sweet potatoes. I have never made sweet potatoes except baked or oven fried. This recipe using some applesauce and a lot of brown sugar. Anyone...
  19. We have New Grist. It is pretty sweet but I rotate it in with the Bards and the Redbridge. We can also get Greenes and another I forget but they come in big bottles and I prefer the regular size. When M had to do a Scout project, we tried the GFP & Chebe pizza dough. We preferred the Chebe because it had more flavor with the spices in the crust...
  20. Yes!!! Too much work!!! Its worth it to have the leftovers. I always get stuck having everyone over before Celiac. My sisters oven hasn't worked in 3 years (convienent huh? our parents gave them money for a new oven 2 years ago). My mom is kinda crippled up but her house is boring to the kids (14, 17,nephews 3 & 7 monthes) Now I just have to make...
  21. How awful! But I imagine this isn't entirely a surprise. Your mother has some other issue besides the diet. I suspect that if it wasn't a different diet, it would be something else. That is unless you are a demanding b about the food. Demanding they must cook what you can eat and in a certain way. But you seem like a reasonable person from your...
  22. Tis a thing of beauty! Just returned from Waldo pizza. Had pizza and beer. They have like 5 gluten-free beers and 2 ciders. And something called Sake2 me which is a gluten-free sparkling sake drink.
  23. Cheese is gluten free unless you buy the beer cheese my hub did at a specialty place. Lots of food is gluten-free, it's mainly baked goods & pasta you have to get special. Even pasta you can get Thai kitchen rice noodles at the grocery. Walmart, Target, Sams Club and Costco have some gluten-free things cheaper than WF. Read around on here and you...
