  1. I think of an oriental chicken salad and I think of soy sauce. Did it not have soy sauce in the salad dressing, which normally contains wheat? Welcome to the forum!
  2. I'm so glad you're doing well, Bonnie...there's nothing quite as sweet as fooling your doctors!!! I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season! Thoughts and prayers are with you as you undergo the challenges of the new year!
  3. I'd be curious to know how many people are blood and biopsy diagnosed who have no clue what their genes are. I'd be one of them.
  4. Why gluten-free diets are not welcome chez Martha Stewart As for allergies, her line is equally unambivalent. Martha's Entertaining: A year of Celebrations is published by Clarkson Potter and is out now 'Oh my God! Don't ask! My rule is do not ask about dietary restrictions,' she says, clearly averse to making an extra effort for certain...
  5. Hopefully you are not now using spelt as it is a form of wheat and something we have to avoid.
  6. I use it without any problem so obviously I'm not sensitive to it but it sounds like you need to avoid it.
  7. You are putting all those egg whites to good use!!! Yes, two breakfasts are better than one!!!
  8. We also do hors d'oeuvres on Christmas Eve. This month has gotten away from me, too...and apparently my DIL as well as her parents. We usually vaguely come up with a few ideas on Thanksgiving Day as to what we're doing. Not so this year. We are disorganized!!! Right now we're winging it... I miss those mini phyllo shells! ARGH! Last year I...
  9. Personally if "artificial flavors" are the only questionable ingredient, I'd eat them.
  10. Did you hear that Cup4Cup is having a Open Original Shared Link! Maybe you can enter it and win!!!
  11. Glad you have a sense of humor, bumblebee! It goes a long way when we run into moments like this!
  12. A flourless chocolate cake is to die for! My gluten-eating friends loved it and asked for the recipe. Here's one recipe to give you an idea from Open Original Shared Link.
  13. Welcome, buddhabelly! Light, fluffy gluten-free bread is one of the great mysteries of the universe! I am still searching for that *perfect* recipe. That said, you might want to use the google button on the top right corner of your screen and do a search for bread recipes. A lot of have posted in the past. Do you have a bread machine or a stand...
  14. Welcome, deltron! I think the problem is that unless you have celiac, it's really difficult to fully understand it. When I was first diagnosed, my friends thought "a little bit won't hurt you...so and so used to eat it occasionally". They "get it" now and will even ask if I can have something that contains fill in the blank. And then there are people...
  15. My almost 13-year old gluten-eating granddaughter loves waffles and pancakes made from Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix. She also loves to help cook especially using my KitchenAid mixer to make gluten-free pizza crust.
  16. Well, how interesting! I have to pass this on to my celiac daughter, who is in her third year of grad school to become a landscape architect in May, 2012.
  17. I kept some Tupperware if it was in good condition. But I threw out quite a bit. Depends on the item. My cookware is Calphalon hard anodized aluminum and I gave it a good scrubbing and it's been fine. I think the bottom line is that if something is in good condition, I kept it. If not, I got rid of it. And it is fun buying new things...I just...
  18. Also Kelloggs has come out with gluten-free Rice Krispies. Boxes are well marked gluten-free on the front.
  19. She can have gluten-free pancakes! And a lot of other things, too. My gluten-eating granddaughter loves gluten-free Bisquick pancakes as well as those made with Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix. We've also made waffles from both of those mixes. It does get much easier after you become more familiar with the diet. I know it can be overwhelming at first...
  20. Meringue shells? I know I've frozen those in the past. I also thought of coconut macaroons but don't know if they'd freeze well or not as I've never tried it...nor have I made them in ages.
  21. My thoughts are that I will never take the vaccine (if it gets beyond clinical trials) or ever go back to eating gluten again. Period. I know that eating gluten-free does take some getting used to and is quite a change for most of us...just plain overwhelming for many. But it does get easier. Just hang in there and ask any questions you may have. We...
  22. Or how about giving those leftover brownies to a gluten-eating friend or neighbor? I bet they'd appreciate them.
  23. I haven't tried the peppermint sticks but a week or so ago I bought Bob's Sweet Stripes and I'm fine with them.
