  1. I will never go to Applebee's. I have been there twice and both time went home sick. They really don't care at all. I prefer not to eat at chains but have had very good service at mimi's and chili's. Outback and olive Garden both make double sure things are kept seperate. Was a little nervous about olive Garden with all of that wheaty pasta floating around...
  2. athome1998 - i cried when I found this site too! It makes celiac so much easier to handle.
  3. Pizza was the hard one for me too! I am now (at 11 months) to the point where I am ok going out for pizza with others. i just grab a gluten-free one or we stop at the gluten-free pizza parlor first & grab a to-go one for me. I would make sure that you always have plenty of gluten-free foods on hard & snacks with you. Cook extra & freeze some...
  4. Ducolax is a laxative. My problem is the opposite - constipation and it has become much more severe since going gluten-free. I have tried everything - diet, food diary, supplements, Metamucil, stool softners - everything that has been suggested & so far nothing has worked. The only thing that works is 2 Ducolax every night. i hate taking them and...
  5. wen - had to respond to you as I feel that my mom had celiac also. She was sick on and off for much of her life, was diabetic, had fibromyalgia, dermatitis, joint pain, bruising, canker sore, constitpation.... well, you name it and of course it was ultimately pulmonary fibrosis that ended her life. When it turned out that I had Celiac my greatest sorrow...
  6. I was told to allow 6 months to 2 years to heal. It all depends on your age and severity for the disease. I am at 11 months and while I feel so much better there is still issues. It is hard to be patient but know that each day you follow the diet you are one day closer to healing and feeling better. One day you will wake up and suddenly realize that you...
  7. First I would like to say that I agree with cassP and have read about the G.A.R.D. diet and while I don't do all that he says I do believe that gluten is very bad for our pets. We have five dogs and took them off of gluten in June - mainly because I didn't want to have to handle gluteny food. Since going gluten-free the furry kids general health has improved...

    ARCHIVED Subway

even with them changing gloves I would still worry about the gluten gloves that touched the food items - lettuce, meat, tomatoes - first. Seems that they could leave crumbs behind.
  9. re: Burt's Bees. Glad to see someone else is having trouble. I have been using it for awhile & suddenly my lips have started to break out. I look like a kid with major chapped lips - big red marks all around my lips. Someone else had pointed out that it may be the soy in it. I stopped using it and whatever thge problem, soy of CC, since not using...
  10. If it says "mom" on it the family won't touch it.
  11. I have eaten at two different Applebees in two different states and both time got sick. Never again. Outback is my fav. Have eaten in several in different states & always had the same caring service & excellent meals. Never been sick.
  12. We have had Outback a several different locations in California & in Oregon all with excellent food. Usually they are very good about anything ordered from the gluten-free menu. The food is a little rich so maybe your system is still too sensitive at only 3 months. Just a thought. I just had the dessert for the first time last week and I've been gluten...

    ARCHIVED Probiotics

I take probiotics but don't understand the difference between pre and pro. Is one better than the other?

    ARCHIVED Ambien

Justjen ~ I've done that as well. Scary. My plan (and plans change!) is to start weaning off my depression meds after I have been gluten-free for a year. I figure that I have enough changes to cope with right now, so for now, it's the Ambien. Oh well.
  15. I so agree with spinsterwitch. The mourning section in The Gluten Free Bible made me cry buckets and helped so much with the loss of old favorite foods.
  16. thanks skylark I will give that a try!
  17. 11 months later and I still have major C issues. Wish i knew what to do !!
  18. I understand what you are saying about the possibility of cc at any restaurant but I think I would be a little more concerned about a "fast food" place. That's just me. I'll be quiet now cause I may change my mind!
  19. Thanks for this posting. I thought I was nuts as no way could I be hungry after eating a good meal. An hour later - I am starved! Guess I will go ahead and eat. Thanks!
  20. We have five dogs and started on Natural Balance in June. All five have improved. Coats are better, potty time is better, no flaky skin. All are old girls with no much of an appetite until now!. I also boil a huge pot of chicken thighs & give them a little fresh chicken & fresh broth with the kibble. Too much sodium in the canned stuff. It's a gluten...
  21. I am 60 & 10 months gluten-free and still having bad days, mainly a constant battle with C. I too thought that I would be "well" by now but guess after so many years it is going to take longer. I have read that the older you are when diagnosed the longer it can take to heal which makes sense.
  22. I gave in & had just a handful of popcorn at the show two weeks ago. Was I ever sorry! Three days of gas, bloating & bathroom time. Not doing that again!
  23. You've come this far - try to hang in there. I feel for you. I wasn't gluten-free before my test as I quite eating. I would look at food and think which was worse, eating & pain or not eating & hungry. I went for the not eating & hungry so understand where you are at. If this is important then keep going. When you wake up in the morning it will...
  24. Thanks. I have a dr appt coming up & will have levels checked. I am learning that I need to request copies of ALL tests & have my RN friend go over them with me. I am fighting with my insurance so have an approval done so that I can see a Celiac specialist. I am not sure about the soy. I have tried to cut out anything with soy but I know they sneak...
  25. I lost 30 pounds before going gluten-free only because I was living on only rice. Since then I gained back 5 pounds but have maintained this weight for 8 months. I am sure part of the gain was because I started to eat again but have kept it off because I eat little to no processed foods. Chicken, veggies & fruit!
