  1. I guess I am wondering why your husband feels the need to have gluten in your home. And why can't he eat the same things as you at home? A nice healthy gluten free meal that would suit a guy as well could be baked chicken with a mustard sauce (no gluten there!), some roasted sweet potato and a veggie. Most spaghetti sauces are gluten free and he probably...
  2. I don't accept any food prepared in someone's home as I don't know how exactly they have prepared it. If someone offers I(as mentioned by Kareng) mentioned something in a package that I would enjoy. If they arrive with a food I say thanks, set it aside and then give it to a gluten eating friend.
  3. We are a 100% gluten free home. My partner was recently diagnosed gluten intolerant so that makes it easier, however we did go 100% at home some time back and she got her fix when we dined out. We recently moved and have a ton of company this summer, mostly grandkids. It has cost us more (and killed the budget) but we have provide all food consumed in...
  4. You aren't old Bartfull!! I'm 64. I couldn't agree more with what you said. If he doesn't care about her health and issues now, when they are young, he sure as heck won't when they get older. He'll end up being an old fart only interested in himself.....and will spread crumbs all over the house. eeewww!
  5. All of the above is why I really push for eating whole fresh foods. Nothing processed. There should be no ingregient list to read. Healing is hard enough without subjecting our bodies to other ingredients that don't belong in our food. Heal first then try adding a food product. Just my little food rant for the day!
  6. Glad to hear about your experience. We are going back to Kauai in Oct for the first time since I was diagnosed (5 years). We too have rented a condo so I can more easily cook. We used to rent a little beach sack but the kitchen was a little too rustic! We plan to hit the Costco for some basics and then the local farmers markets. I used the Find Me Gluten...
  7. I have a letter from my dr stating that I have celiac and must be allowed to carry my own gluten free food. I had to use it once! They read the letter, gave me a pat-down (!!!) and let me take my food.
  8. If you are in the early stages of healing remember that it is not always a glutening that makes you sick. You may be reacting to other ingredients that are in the food product. If you are having trouble I would encourage you to avoid processed foods and eat the clean natural ones. That way you have no question that what you are eating is safe!
  9. I agree with the above responses! As the pharmacy to use a clean pill sorter and that will cut out your c.c. chances there. And yes, dairy and soy can cause issues. Costco (Kirkland) brand tuna has no broth and no soy added to it so that could be an option for you.
  10. SOunds good to me! Normally I won't eat anything from a shared bakery but since they have separate baking days it sounds like they understand the flying flour in the air thing. Yup. I'd have a cookie. Or two.
  11. .Thank you I was only replying to the poster. And, as I stated, my gluten intolerant friends can tolerate it but I would think those who are sensitive would have a problem.
  12. Here in Oregon we have a beer called Omission. It is barley based but has been highly processed to remove the harmful gluten. I have no idea how they do it but after processing it falls within the considered "safe" zone for gluten. My gluten intolerant partner and two gluten intolerant friends all drink it, love it and have had not issues with it. I, who...
  13. We just moved here to Bend from So. Cal. We Love it! And there are so many g.f. places to eat where people Get it! Love all the organic produce. Oh yeah....not to mention kayaking & hiking. Color us happy!
  14. I don't know that it's cheaping out, I sort of call it picking my battles. lol SOmetimes (often!!) I would rather go without than launch into the whole cross contamination-is this safe-would you please-I am celiac thing.
  15. Barilla is safe and most likely it was was of the other ingredients in it that bothered you. Possibly even the brand of pasta you used. Corn based pasta can be difficult to digest. Just a thought.
  16. Zydeco Kitchen in downtown Bend, Oregon is awesome and yes, Hoos, one of the owners is celiac. The Athletic Club restaurant in Bend is also owned by Zydeco and is gluten free. And my favorite "fast food" place is in Bend, Orgeon called Spork. Almost everything there is g.f. Tell them you are celiac and they are over the top careful. Don't want to confess...
  17. It's hard but I won't eat ice cream in a scoop 'em out parlor. A scoop in a cup or tray of water is not enough and overhead droppings into open containers of ice cream is way too possible. If everyone stops at a parlor I usually look for a cooler with packaged ice creams that are ok or soft serve.
  18. Congratulations on your one year anniversary! That is a milestone to be celebrated. As stated, you can add a tad of dairy and see if you tolerate it ok. I am at five years and can handle it if I don't eat too much. We all heal at such different levels!
  19. My partner can eat white rice but not brown rice or quinoa. Too much fiber
  20. You have a lot of choices as far as the chain restaurants go. There is Red Robin, OutBack, Carrabba's, the Handlebar Pub & Grill, barro's Pizza, BJ's Brewhouse, P.F. Changs. My dad lives in Apach Junction and we eat out when there.
  21. I do not like that woman. After her making a comment that it wouldn't hurt those with food issues to skip a meal now and then, well, I refuse to purchase anything with her name on it!
  22. I wouldn't use it. But...if it is really special why not use it as a craft type item. Scrub it good, put hooks in it and hang pot holder from it. I would pintrest for some cool repurposing ideas on it.
  23. I do hard boiled eggs a lot too. Full of lots of protein to start off your day. If you don't want to mess with boiling them you can purchase an egg cooker for under $20 and boil them in that.
  24. I have never had a bread machine so don't know what different parts are. As a general rule if it is plastic and scratched it needs to be replaced (the bowl or whatever the scratched part is). If something is stainless steel as good cleaning and run in the dishwasher asnd it will be safe.
  25. It is more likely that it is the corn itself that is bothering you. Corn is very hard to digest.
