  1. Ugh. Your doctor story is so familiar. I finally found a good osteopath who listens to me and doesn't do stupid stuff. The tests are good news. It means you do not have celiac issues with your intestine that are severe enough for the antibodies to make it to your blood. You mentioned giving the gluten free diet a try. I'd still encourage you to...
  2. It's possible to have negative blood tests and still be gluten intolerant. The only way to know for sure once you're done with the testing is to try the diet. Other conditions that can mimic celiac are small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and microscopic colitis. You can let your doctor continue tests while you try a gluten-free diet. The celiac tests...
  3. I had candida problems when I started on the high-power vitamin I take. A lot of people do, unfortunately. (I tried to get a grant to show the supplement was transiently immuno-suppressive but alas, no funding.) I took Threelac and did a round of Zand Candida Quickcleanse and the problems went away. I stayed on the Threelac for about three months, until...
  4. I had gluten-caused emotional issues. I hate to say this, but it took a long time gluten-free for them to resolve and diet alone did not do it. I take a very potent vitamin supplement designed for mood disorders and lots of fish oil to stay well.
  5. Isn't it always that way with the cute ones! Flirt back and make him sweat a little. There's one guy I have such a crush on and he's the most irresponsible one around. Forgets appointments, late to everything, that sort of stuff. A friend tells me if we actually dated, I'd kill him for standing me up inside of six weeks. He's right but it doesn...
  6. Learning Snickers is gluten-free was not necessarily a good thing for me.
  7. I'm not saying existing diagnostic tests are sufficient at all. It's particularly devastating that getting any hope of a positive result involves destroying ones body with gluten. You asked for references and I did my best from what's out there. You ask the exact question I'm asking. Where is the study correlating fecal AGA or anti-TG2 antibodies...
  8. So much sugar in regular sodas though! There's 3-4 tablespoons worth in each can. I like to drink the unsweetened lemon or lime flavored carbonated water you can get at the grocery store. Perrier brand is wonderful, but the store brands are cheaper. It has a nice bite and I can dodge the sweeteners/sugar issue altogether. Sadly, they're not caffeinated...
  9. As others have said, we tend to go through a rough time first going off gluten. There's the stress, and a shock to the system. That said, you don't have to live on boiled chicken! There's lots of good food we can eat. Let's take your chicken breast. Grill your chicken with a gluten-free barbecue sauce and serve with baked beans (see link below...
  10. Glad to have you here. You are not crazy! Eating gluten if you're sensitive can cause mental symptoms, including fatigue, depression, and anxiety attacks. Food poisoning can trigger adult celiac disease, particularly poisoning with Campylobacter jejuni. There's something about the way Campylobacter evades the immune system that can trigger Guillain
  11. Mushroom is right on target. You have SO many symptoms that could be caused by gluten.
  12. Many doctors. At least ten missed my celiac disease, including allergists, psychiatrists, general practitioners, osteopaths, and a lovely lady who practices TCM and acupuncture that I visited when I was REALLY at the end of my rope. Tested for celiac as an infant, negative. Fatigue diagnosed as depression. Separate diagnoses of gastritis, IBS, Hashimoto...
  13. I sorted out my issues with an allergy elimination diet. I ate nothing but rice, lamb, and greens for two weeks and felt WAY better. If you feel better on the elimination diet, you know it's a food issue. Then add foods back every few days and see what you're reacting to. The one thing that turned out tricky for me was that while I has a strong and...
  14. How do I back up my statements? I couldn't figure out how to link to PubMed to show empty search results on a search with Fine as author and "antibodies". Typing "fecal antibodies celiac" into PubMed produces only 34 results in the whole database, and there are really no studies that support Fine's assertions. The genetic testing interpretation is interesting...
  15. Yes, flour gets everywhere! I won't allow flour in my kitchen when family visit. I feed the kids Eggo waffles instead of allowing a box of Bisquik into the house.
  16. I had to eliminate soy and dairy at first to feel well. My gut was just such a mess from the gluten. After about a year, I tried them again and had no reactions. Now I eat anything I like, as long as it has no gluten.
  17. Antibodies don't go away in only a week gluten-free. You should get a correct result with the test since you're back on wheat.
  18. Look, everyone is attacking me and I suppose that's normal for the kid who says the emperor has no clothes. It just breaks my heart to see all these people wasting $349 on unvalidated tests. That's a lot of money for a piece of paper from a lab that doesn't even tell you the false positive and false negative rates of their tests. (i.e. how many non-celiacs...
  19. I thought I was OK eating Quaker instant grits. I've certainly never had an overt reaction to them and I'm pretty sensitive. Now you all have me wondering.
  20. I had "food allergies" that were probably misdiagnosed celiac as a child, so I can sympathize with your daughter. Any time I could make a wish (shooting star, penny in a fountain, birthday candle) I wished for my allergies to be gone so I could eat like other kids. I didn't have obvious symptoms from some of the foods that came up on skin tests, so what...
  21. God Bless! I hope you get some answers before you get sick again. Good luck.
  22. People who have positive test results and recover do not validate a clinical test. Making that assumption is what statisticians call a Type I error. Can you please provide a link to Dr. Fine's research on fecal antibodies for which you are grateful? I have searched PubMed pretty carefully and I can't find anything.
  23. Are you addressing my post, or Enterolab? The burden of proof of the usefulness of anti-gliadin IgA and anti-tTA fecal antibodies rests with them, not me. Enterolab does not provide any references about fecal antibodies, and if they have sponsored any studies, they have not seen fit to share the results in the peer-reviewed literature or even on their website...
  24. I don't think any of the unbalanced fad diets are healthy. Atkins induction is particularly troublesome, as it puts your body into an unhealthy state of ketosis. The way to lose weight is to eat fewer calories than you burn. Sticking to healthy foods like fruits, nuts, vegetables, eggs, whole grains like brown rice and millet, fish, and lean meats will...
