  1. That's great news about your daughter. I'm glad to hear she is well. I'm NOT happy to hear that you have had bad experiences with counselors. What a miserable deal, to be that stressed out and have a counselor look down on you. Geez. Well, keep coming here and we'll do our best to support you!
  2. I'm really glad to hear you're going to Early Intervention. It sounds like the Signing Time was a great idea. Remember that if you and your daughter can sign some you can always tell her how much you love her, even across a crowded room! I'm not sure what you were so anxious about with the counseling but the counselors I've gone to have been super...
  3. The hearing loss doesn't sound like something you would realistically stop. The perforation may have sped the hearing loss up but you can't be second-guessing that sort of thing. You will drive yourself crazy. It almost sounds like you need some support from someone who knows about deafness. You might get some help coping with the stress and guilt...
  4. I don't think highly processed protein powders are the right answer, even in the elderly. I'd be more inclined to give her high-quality eggs at breakfast, both for the protein and the lovely lipids in egg yolks that feed your brain, and some chicken, turkey, or fish at lunch and dinner. If you're following GAPS, the meat will be slow-cooked which makes it...
  5. He did have a plan. Unfortunately Satan messed it up by tempting Eve and it's been downhill ever since.
  6. I hated being a teenager. It's so painful. It didn't get better until I learned to stop worrying about what other people think. People talking behind each others backs is a simple fact of life and you have to get used to it. It's not a big deal until YOU decide it's horrible. Then it's horrible. You are in control of your thoughts and what goes on in...
  7. The CDC has some info that says IgM is more likely to be false positive, and you shouldn't rely on it if you were sick for more than 4-6 weeks when the test was done. Open Original Shared Link
  8. Deamidated gliadin is the most sensitive test available. It is also 98% specific for celiac disease, meaning false positives are extremely rare. TTG is not particularly sensitive, especially in little kids. Your daughter is most likely celiac, and needs to be gluten-free to prevent damage even if the biopsy comes back OK.
  9. Sometimes I feel like I'm completely wasting my time here. Are you even bothering to read my posts, squirmingitch? Or do you really not care about MSG? Better than Bouillon Low Sodium Chicken: Chicken Meat with Natural Juices [contains MSG formed in processing], Salt, Organic Cane Juice Solids, Maltodextrin (from corn), Chicken Fat, Yeast Extract [high...
  10. Be careful. Unfortunately 90% or more of what is on the Internet is pesudo-scientific garbage, most of it thinly veiled attempts to sell you books, supplements, or other inadequately regulated and sometimes dangerous products. The US has a devastating combination of poor preventative healthcare, poor science education, and a ludicrous open supplement market...
  11. B complex and omega-3 are really helpful for me. The other one I would consider since you suspect thyroid trouble is a selenium supplement with 100% of the RDA of selenium. Thyroid peroxidase is a selenium enzyme and if you are selenium deficient it will make you hypothyroid. I'm glad your Dr. is following up on other thyroid tests.
  12. Er....no. I guess you missed the board member posting about following a so-called "detox" procedure and the resulting kidney damage. There is no harm in taking psyllium but the whole idea of colon cleansing is unnecessary and potentially dangerous. Open Original Shared Link I know bentonite clay is much-loved by the alternative health community...
  13. They ask, but people tend to lie in studies so you can never be sure.
  14. Thanks for the kind words. You have my sympathy as well. Cognitive problems are no fun at all.
  15. No, I don't feel normal. I've been having chronic migraines and cognitive problems since my Hashimoto's got bad almost two years ago. But natural thyroid at least keeps the hypo- symptoms at bay.
  16. Yes, the other tests are separate from TSH. You will feel normal with thyroid hormones if they are necessary, though some people like me only find they feel normal with natural thyroid like Armour or NP Thyroid. Endocrinologists can be reluctant to prescribe natural thyroid supplements so you may have to fight for it if straight T4 (levothyroxine) doesn...
  17. Anti-thyroglobulin. I'm not meaning to be a pest, by the way. I just thought I'd put the right name in the thread so India can ask for the test from her Dr. I know them all too well because I have Hashi's. It doesn't matter much though. There is nothing to be done for thyroid autoimmunity other than give thyroid hormones and watch it like any...
  18. Hashimoto's is handled like any other hypothryroidism. My endocrinologist runs T4 and T3 along with the TSH though. If you're only getting TSH and still having hypo symptoms you may need more testing.
  19. Twasn't I. I'm not a moderator. Peter probably took care of it.
  20. Fair enough. This whole "poison yourself to get a diagnosis" issue stinks. I know kids are a little different in terms of antibodies but do you really think they are that different from adults in terms of time to relapse? I guess we really don't know. You're right that the correct experiment is an awfully tough sell for your subjects!
  21. All those "shared facility" labels are CYA to some degree. It's hard to imagine they got gluten in salt. I'd put it in the back of the cupboard for a month or two and see whether the weird feelings appear without the salt, meaning something else is getting you.
  22. You never heard of psyllium? It is the active ingredient in Metamucil and most of the copy-cat generic fiber laxatives. It is in widespread use for low fiber constipation in everyone, not just celiacs. If you are constipated psyllium husk is a sensible thing to try. Be sure the product you choose is gluten-free.
  23. Hi and welcome. You have celiac disease. Your TTG and IgA-DGP are positive, which are both celiac disease tests. TTG is an autoimmune antibody, and IgA-DGP is a gliadin reaction that is only positive in celiac disease. The biopsy will determine the extent of the celiac damage. Some people with positive blood tests do choose to accept that they are celiac...
  24. Any chance you're vitamin D deficient?
  25. I guess I don't see it as alarmist because I still have some GI trouble gluten-free that GAPS/SCD style eating addresses. I also developed Hashimoto's and a vitamin D deficiency two years after going off gluten.
