i'd be nervous as a cat ordering take-out. even when i (don't) eat out (much) i'm 'on alert' lolz - i flag the waitress down a million times to ask questions, i usually talk to a manager, and if i can, i watch as much as the food preparation as possible.... in a food savvy place like san fran, though, i bet your options are better than mine here in...

				ARCHIVED Big Lots
notme replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
yesss! i have gotten sweet deals on gluten-free stuff at big lots sometimes it's a little hit or miss when it comes to selection (ie: they have something one week and they don't have it the next) but i can usually find a bargain or two there. -

ARCHIVED Halitosis And Body Odor...feeling Embarrassed...please Help!
notme replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
omgosh, that is really interesting! here's a wierd story: i had a very good friend (male) we got along really well, my dad and his dad were friends, he had $$ and was even building his own house, so, good for me that he wanted to date, right? i resisted for a long time, then agreed to go out with him (not wanting to ruin the friendship, i even set him... -

ARCHIVED Halitosis And Body Odor...feeling Embarrassed...please Help!
notme replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i take zyrtec 24 hr every day. i'm allergic to everything: dust, pollen, mold, animals, perfume, you name it. it's wierd, because my sense of smell is never working and every now and again i'll be like: i'm smelling things. cool. then it's gone, lolz. annnd, i don't know if it's a co-incidence or whether it helps with intestinal inflammation, but... -
i have been putting a spoonful in my hot tea in the mornings trying to gain weight, but if it's helping the skin, then, win-winning! i also use it in a salve i make with tea tree oil, also good for hair, lolz - i use it like the old lady on the frank's red hot commercial! haha

				ARCHIVED Frustrated With Results
notme replied to Nessabobessa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
just thought of one more thing - you say he washes his hands at school. do they use soap and water or hand sanitizer. hand sanitizer is made with grain alcohol and is not going to 'wash' gluten off like soap and water. it just makes sanitized gluten (learned that one the hard way while on my first gluten-free camping trip. could not figure out why i was... -
some people do great with the welbutrin - my sister loooved it. i tried taking it to quit smoking, and it kicked my butt it made me increasingly depressed and by the time i got to the dosage level that my doc was working me up to, i was suicidal <completely and totally NEVER like me. it scared the daylights out of my husband and i called my doc and...

				ARCHIVED Gluten-Free For How Long?
notme replied to LeahRuth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i agree. you need to see a doctor and get tested if you think you have celiac. it does require that you stay 'on' gluten to have accurate test results, but more importantly, a doctor can test to rule out other things that can cause the same symptoms but need different treatment. -

				ARCHIVED Frustrated With Results
notme replied to Nessabobessa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
there actually could be flour particles in the air if your mom is baking while he is around. <not from breathing it, just from flour particles getting into your mouth and then swallowed) i switched my soaps, lotions and shampoo/conditioner (anything that can get into your mouth and, yes, i get soap & shampoo in my mouth in the shower) if you are... -

				ARCHIVED Avoiding Cross Contamination!
notme replied to ceceliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
gosh! as a mom, if my daughter were diagnosed with celiac, i certainly would make sure i wasn't making her sick! get your doctor to speak to her - i am curious as to why she hasn't spoken to your doctor already. again, as a mom, i am interested in what a doctor has to say when it comes to my child (even young adult) what is up with her? :/ -

ARCHIVED No Printed gluten-free Menu At Red Robin
notme replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
their 'customizable' menu (online. would be the ipad y'all are referring to) has all the different allergy culprits and things you would avoid. for me, it would be gluten, wheat and soy. would they have a printed menu in this specific combination? doubtful. i wonder how many different combinations there would be to print out......... personally... -
lolz - this happens to me, too, depending on how many grand kids are with me they know meemo always has something to snack on!

i shower every other day otherwise i would be an itchy mess. in fact, in the winter months, i get out of the shower, pat dry and grease up with some stuff called 'aquaphor' in addition to the tea tree salve for scalp. i agree - let those little scabbies heal up!! when we travel, i take a cooler and fill it with stuff i can eat (mostly sandwich stuff...

haha! our house is 'Die Fledermaus Haus' or 'The House of Fifty Mustards' last night we had cod in parchment with orange, ginger & mushrooms (the recipe wanted s$#&akes, but evidently, if you are expecting snow in east tennessee, everybody needs s$#&akes??? lolz) steamed sticky rice and romaine salad. tonight is repeat, haha i... -
monkeygirl, that is exactly why this clown shouldn't be spewing information/misinformation. he had a bunch of crap sprinkled with just enough facts to make it sound plausible. a suspected celiac patient should never go off gluten before testing. if they feel that bad, they should get tested as soon as possible, but going off gluten prematurely can make...

i don't have any experience with prednisone, but it has an awful reputation with dh: it will make you feel better for a minute, then the dh comes back with a vengeance. i defer to squirmy on this one. i had dh, but (big surprise) every dr i ever asked about it said 'dermatitis' or 'psoriasis' or how about this one: 'pitariousis' <i totally thought...

				ARCHIVED Vertigo
notme replied to Steph1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
i had vertigo before i was diagnosed. like, i couldn't even drive without having an anxiety attack. it has since disappeared, so i am chalking that up to the celiac as well as so many other (seemingly unrelated) symptoms. i had it checked out at the emergency room and followed up with my g.p. who referred me to an ear, nose & throat specialist who... -

ARCHIVED Can Celiac Make A Kid Sick Enough That He Stops Going To School?
notme replied to cwnhokie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
is he under a doctor's care? yes, celiac *can* make a person that sick. if you suspect he may have it, you should get him tested BEFORE removing gluten from his diet, because it will make the testing inaccurate. good luck :/ sorry that your son is feeling so ill -

notme replied to mbrookes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED A Year In And Still Confused - Please Help
notme replied to nomorepies's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
many celiacs have a delayed reaction to gluten exposure, so the fact that your symptoms didn't appear until later is common. i don't have a full-on reaction until 24-48 hours after i've had gluten introduced to my body. don't forget: this is a systemic disease, as in that it will cause a full body reaction and mess up everything with inflammation. i don... -

ARCHIVED Home Ec/ Cooking Class With Middle Schoolers - Any Ideas?
notme replied to kb27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
i was thinking about teaching a class to young adults in our church - basic cooking! some of them are clueless - one of them texted me and wanted my egg salad recipe. i said: it's so hard. eggs, mayo, mustard, salt & pepper w/a little bit of paprika. so, if you can boil an egg, you're all set. she texted me back that she did NOT know how to boil... -

udi's is pretty good - they make good baguettes if you can find them. i was overjoyed to find some of their breakfast wraps in the freezer section so i tried one for breakfast this morning. they were ok, but pretty bland. the tortilla wrap itself was good i think i'll just find the wraps make up a bunch and freeze them myself. i hope your plan... -
aww feel better. it is about 2 weeks for me, too, to recover. yup, i mostly only eat what i cook. me and the freezer are bff's. lolz - i have tinitus <sp) but i attributed that to too much loud music (hey, turn that up) and i am pretty deaf in one ear from underestimating how loud a .22 is (they might be little....) always wear ear protection...
