  1. Well you know how to start a new topic as you managed to post this (by clicking 'new topic')-so if you want to add a reply to someones comment you click 'add reply' which is on the left of the 'new topic' button. ,then click 'add reply' again at the bottom of the page after you've written what you want in the box. Hope that sounds clear
  2. Don't forget Chelsea that in the time you were G.F your body probably healed some-so it's like starting from scratch again. It took more than 2 weeks for you to experience the 'classic' symptoms first time round. Does that make sense? I suppose what I'm saying is the 'classic' symptoms will come in time ( not that you want them!!) My hubbies...
  3. Hey,it's not just your health system.here in the U.K it's not much better!! It took 12 weeks for me to get my son's blood results back (they were borderline) So I asked for a paediatric G.I referral-and I finally got one for November.(that's an 8month wait!) Time lapsed since I first asked for a blood test so far 15months! I might add I've made...
  4. Sounds alot like my husband when he was found to have celiac disease. After starting the G.F diet,-he actually seemed to be getting worse! Severe fatigue and muscle aches-that had him bedridden most days (he also found a hot bath helped-but he had to use a bath lift to get in and out he was so weak) You mentioned your sil was limping-it wasn't until...
  5. Well I've had a busy day ! I had to sort out all my tomatoes that were grown from seed and were still in seed trays in my greenhouse. Now the weather here has warmed up a bit it's time to move them tomatoes out of the greenhouse into 'gro-bags'. Also been planting out bedding plants-(petunias,buzy lizzie, lobelia) and have done some hanging...
  6. Oh wow-you must get through alot of toilet roll!!

  8. Check it out!! Open Original Shared Link
  9. My hubbie was dx with celiac disease nearly 2 years ago.No-one else in his family has it. Not one of his 5 siblings has any symptoms, and no-one with even an auto-immune disease!! Maybe it skipped a couple of generations before it singled out my hubbie
  10. When you had your biopsy was you avoiding Wheat and Oats already?(as you experience allergic reactions to them). If you were, then that would explain the negative result . Ok,positive antibodies to me =celiac disease. I would imagine if you carry on eating wheat and oats, you would eventually get a 'positive' biopsy-but you know they make you ill...
  11. Well,I suppose that describes me-I went gluten free to support my husband, and it just made things easier at mealtimes. Suprisingly,I found that my skin condition of eczema got alot better. Not so good,-I discovered I get some weird symptoms if I try and sneak some gluten in. Palpitations, sweats, funny tingling in my mouth, eczema returns with a...
  12. Not so in the Uk! Gluten free can still contain up to 200parts per million (codex)-so a no no for any allergic to wheat. ,but hey, you're in the States so ignore me!!
  13. My husband (who is a coeliac) has clubbing of his fingernails and toenails. When the doctors were trying to work out what was wrong with him they were forever looking at his hands!(they never explained why though) I didn't realise it was connected to thyroid probs (hubbie's thyroid is ok)-so I'm not altogether sure it's a sign of coeliac-but from...
  14. Mmmm,it's a tough one. I have to agree with Tiffany, and say it's a personal choice. Here in the U.K there are plenty of G.F foods that contain Codex, and plenty of coeliacs eat it without an obvious reaction-but there are plenty who do react-sooo it's if you're willing to take the risk....
  15. Glad you had a great trip!! It's good to know Paris is fairly easy to eat in. How did you find eating out in London BTW?
  16. It's totally possible that it could have been undigested lettuce. For some reason some coeliacs find in the early stages of healing that lettuce 'comes out' as it 'went in' ! My husband's been G.F nearly 2 years now. Some days he has a 'normal' bowel movement-other days he has D (what he affectionately refers to as a 'coeliac poo'!)-other days...
  17. [quote name='CarlaB' date='May 12 2006, 12:26 PM' post='138571 CONCLUSIONS: Schizophrenia is associated with a larger range of autoimmune diseases than heretofore suspected. Future research on comorbidity has the potential to advance understanding of pathogenesis of both psychiatric and autoimmune disorders.
  18. Hey Karen, been thinking about you. Well at least they didn't find anything sinister with the barium. I'd imagine you're not looking forward to the Pred -but fingers crossed a higher/longer dose may kick start your stubborn little villi guys into growing back a little, and maybe lessen the D ? Positive vibes coming your way Nikki x
  19. Alas, back to grey skies and chilly weather today Pack those shorts away for now!! No sign of life from my seeds yet!
  20. Hopefully your G.I doc took some small samples from your bowel (biopsies) which will be looked at under a microscope. This will give a clearer picture of whether you have celiac disease or not. The damage seen under the microscope that coeliacs have is called villous atrophy. Biopsies can take a week or more to come back-so hopefully you will know more...
  21. It's a bit too chilly yet here in the UK to plant bedding plants out yet (we are still getting occasional frosts at night)-so I recently planted some seeds in my mini greenhouse (tomatoes and flower seeds) It works out cheaper I think to use seeds and somehow more satisfying when you can plant them out !
  22. Nini just about said it in her comment above. A once in a lifetime test is not enough to detect celiac disease. It's possible that at the time of your biopsy you was in the early stages of the disease -the damage can also be patchy so it could easily be missed by a biopsy. If you feel better G.F and don't feel the need for a 'formal' diagnosis then...
  23. LOL!,got one of those myself!
  24. Debbie,a risk factor for bursitis as well as carpet fitters, plumbers etc can be osteoarthritis.Osteoporosis can occur in coeliacs. Has your husband ever had a dexa scan to rule out osteoporosis?
  25. Lynne,I'm so sorry you couldn't take your dream job-so frustrating for you.Life can be unfair at times and I really sympathise . To some extent most of the time I expect you (like others)just get on with things, not focusing on the negative-and then something like this job offer brings you back to earth with a bump. Debbie,I totally identify...
