  1. Yeah, that first one scares the beejeepers out of you. Creepy little suckers, aren't they!? I almost threw up when I saw my first one years ago. I immediately called my Dad (a master tomato grower) and asked What the hell is THIS thing? He told me to pick it up with tweezers and put it in a jar of gasoline to kill it. Ya, okay, Dad! I just squished...
  2. It was almost 90 today in upstate NY, but it was not oppressive. There was a nice breeze. Last week, it hit 101 and that was a little much.
  3. Then again, when I was young and used to smoke, people could show me a black lung and I would still think "Oh that won't happen to me!" Scare tactics may not work for people. We could tell stories all day long, but will it have any effect? In the end, if you cheat with gluten, you're risking further health problems. It's just that simple.
  4. Peanut butter and banana is awesome! I come from a family that puts ketchup on eggs, too. Peanut butter and bacon on an English muffin (dipped in the ketchupy egg yolk) used to be a family favorite. (Good lawd, my gut seized up just typing that one. ) My brother put ketchup on EVERYTHING, even mashed potatoes.
  5. My Grampa and Dad both sprinkled salt on watermelon and green apples. I love cantaloupe diced over vanilla ice cream. I also like cantaloupe and cottage cheese and cantaloupe wrapped in proscitto. I like warm brie cheese and fig jam on crackers. and Patti, I also like creamed corn over mashed potatoes.
  6. You should see the shoebox full of crap I have that they gave me. Pain meds, anti-depressants, xanax, sleep meds, valium, etc. etc. Told me to get a "scooter" to get around. Accept my fate. Stop stressing. Take these drugs! Anything to get the complaining middle-aged woman out of the office. A scooter? really ? I was 50 years old! Imagine...
  7. WHOOHOO! This is the very best news I have heard all day! I told you on email that I suspected gluten was causing this pain. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am for you because I KNOW what it is like to be debilitated and I could just feel your anguish when we talked. You will regain your muscles and your strength and I hope you will keep...
  8. I am with Karen and notme! I view gluten as poison and a trace glutening sets me back for weeks. This disease almost killed me. It certainly killed my Dad. He was unDXED and suffered horrid gastro symptoms, h. pylori, ulcers, anemia requiring blood transfusions for 8 years, a heart valve transplant and kidney disease requiring dialysis. If only...
  9. Yup, I always say I am like that little boy in the movie Adalaide mentioned. I SEE CELIACS....everywhere. I have educated my large extended family ---full of AI diseases and GI troubles ---and not one (except my Mom) has done a thing about it. And yet, perfect strangers listen to me. My cat's vet, the dental tech, the phlebotomoist who...
  10. It's from Annalise Roberts' book Gluten Free Baking Classics. Here is the website link to other recipes of hers. They use the same Brown Rice flour mix for all baked goods. Open Original Shared Link LEMON SQUARES Yields 16 pieces (no, it doesn't. It makes 9. But Sylvia used a 7 X 11 pan and she got more out of it that way) Crust ...
  11. Mixed grill: Sausages (him) & loin lamb chops (me) Portabellas stuffed with blue cheese (hubs loves those) Quinoa pilaf Fresh blueberries and nectarines The strawberries from the neighboring farm--all gone already!! I only ate my way through 2 boxes crappers! that was a short season....
  12. I am another whose health spiraled so completely out of control and found myself spending $30K out of pocket looking for why I was dying and in such agonizing burning bone/joint/muscle pain, a burning GI tract, a loss of 90 lbs., losing massive muscle mass and suffering severe migraines, raging insomnia, anxiety, anemia, ataxia, loss of cognitive skills...
  13. Cannot? no, that's just an excuse, sorry. If you can read, you can understand the disease and what's involved. Not taking the time to do it--- is a whole different issue.
  14. You got that right, sister!
  15. You said: "In many ways it is a toxic friendship and I know this - its not just the disease. But how awful to have to feel guilty over something I can do nothign about." Why should you feel guilty about a disease you have? Would she treat you any "better" if you had cancer? Probably not! The friendship was already toxic and unhealthy. This...
  16. Just try to be patient. It takes time to heal that entire area. I know it's not easy when you hurt. Hang in there.
  17. Hi Sunny, The Squirmster has done a great job answering your questions and I am not sure I can add much more except to say, if you need an antacid, take it. Eventually, you will find you no longer need them. Just make sure it is gluten free. My ENTIRE GI tract was in flames: burning mouth, throat all the way to my rectum. I had heartburn so...
  18. The good news is, it will pass and soon, you will feel great again! Hang in there and if you have a craving, make yourself some gluten-free muffins or something to take the edge off.
  19. I saw this too, in my email this morning--and it is a GREAT DEAL. Hopefully, people can take advantage of it. Good thinking posting it here, Sylvia!
  20. Whatever makes you happy. Bake into breads or muffins or pancakes. Blend into smoothies. Sprinkle on cereals or into oatmeal or buckwheat. A Tsp. on peanut butter toast. You asked, we answered.
  21. For all of you who listened to my story, thanks--- and I received this email from my friend Elaine --regarding the LEMON bars and the pumpkin paleo bread I made with a dairy-free glaze for her gluten-free and DF sister: "We loved the food. 22. yup. TONIGHT we had: Cream of chicken soup (made into a ) creamy chicken casserole with smashed taters and steamed haricots verts (damn, that bag lasts a long time, Karen) NO dessert. but I received this from my friend Elaine --regarding the LEMON bars and the pumpkin paleo bread I made with a dairy-free glaze for her gluten-free...
  23. oh.....so, You think that's funny, missy?? Don't let GEE FREE get you in trouble! frankly, as a dancer, I am so sorry to see "Come dance with me" as a user name disappear ...
  24. only you (and I--- and maybe a few other sick pups) would have found that "literal" interpretation upon seeing that combo on the Recent post box!! I have. And I often wondered if anyone else did--and thought the same thing: we're not flesh- eating cannibals and whew!" ). I so heart you.
  25. Yuppers, the whole NE region has a short growing season--we are screwed!! and I have used the "he is such a good sport" phrase about my hubs from the moment I met him and for more times/reasons than I can count. Aren't we lucky chickies??
