  1. We have a beautiful, fairly new retirement home/assisted living facility in our town. They hold events and concerts that are open to the public. I went there yesterday because they had a Mother's Day buffet and a very talented harpist was playing. I did not intend to eat, but was happy to pay my twelve dollars just to hear the harpist. I got up and LOOKED...
  2. I haven't gotten glutened, but for the past couple of weeks I've been getting them too. I get the canker sores on my gums, and the blisters on the roof of my mouth. I'm not sure, but I THINK it might be because I have been eating more ice cream lately. I have lost so much weight and am still losing, I thought if I ate more ice cream I could stay at my current...
  3. And then there is this: Open Original Shared Link
  4. I can't eat brown rice anymore either. I used to when I first went gluten free but now it goes right through me. I have no idea why. I remember reading a few weeks back about brown rice having arsenic or some other poison in it, but I can't remember. I just took note that that might be the problem, but I doubt it in my case. There are a TON of things that...
  5. Home is the place I go to sleep. Between taking care of my sick friend and running my business, I leave the house at eight every morning and don't get home until 9:30 at night most days. But here at the shop, my regulars bring in their own snacks or meals. Today for example, there is a jam session going on. I supply the coffee and they have brought cookies...
  6. I wish they would label all corn ingredients too.
  7. I haven't gotten my thyroid checked (no insurance, no money), but I had uncontrillable rages and 24/7 weeping for days with vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin B12 was what I suspected, and that would make sense in your case - you got glutened, and until you heal again you aren't absorbing any B12 from your food. Just a guess.
  8. I like to wrap it around a brick and bake it at a low temp (about 250) for five hours or until the brick is soft. Then I unwrap it, throw the okra away, and eat the brick. Sorry. I couldn't resist. (I HATE okra. Can you tell?)
  9. OK, so I know that gluten, soy and corn can cause intestinal damage. But when I react to something like almonds, my psoriasis flares, but I'm not damaging my intestine, right? And when I eat a non-organic sweet potato, even though I get D, I'm not doing any damage, right? Now, I can't eat any kind of white potato, organic or otherwise because of the psoriasis...
  10. It's bad enough they have genetically modified so many of our foods, but now they want to put nano-particles in our food, packaging, and cosmetics! They don't know what these nano-particles DO yet. Why can't they leave our food alone?! I can see it now - the world won't end with nuclear explosions or bird flu epidemics, nor even with the Mayand calendar...
  11. My thirteen year old kitty isn't as playful as she once was, but she still wakes me up every morning by gently patting my cheek (without claws extended). The NEXT time I get a cat I will NOT feed her first thing after waking up! A friend of mine feeds his cat AFTER he's been up for a while so his cat doesn't bother him when he's sleeping. Another thing...
  12. I was wondering the same thing. I agree that Canyon Bakehouse is the best. Did you notice they had EnerG tapioca bread?! That is the nastiest tasting stuff I have ever eaten!
  13. It certainly isn't easy. For me it's a double whammy. On top of the fact that real food costs more, my dearest friend who knows money is always tight with me used to buy me a big lunch everyday that I could get two meals out of. I only had to feed myself on the weekends. Now I'm on my own and broker than broke.
  14. It's a good thing that music IS timeless. Otherwise IrishHeart and I would have to be REALLY old - except for Brubeck, all of the musicians we named are dead, some of them for centuries!
  15. Sorry. My taste leans more toward Bach. Or Wes Montgomery. Or Frank Zappa. I like a wide variety of musical styles, but these guys don't do a thing for me. But that is why there are so many bands - somebody is going to love them.
  16. I just bought a Taza 80% Dark Chocolate bar the other day. "Cacao beans (Dominican Republic), cane sugar, cocoa butter, whole vanilla beans. All ingredients certified organic. May contain traces of nuts." It was DELICIOUS. Kind of grainy as someone else mentioned but it wasn't in a BAD way. And rather than a bitter edge, it almost had a sour tang mixed...
  17. Skylark always has the best advice, explanations, and help. Skylark, I think you should change your title to "Doctor of Glutenology". (But then again, most doctors are clueless compared to you.)
  18. I don't have the dairy problem, but gluten/soy/corn are my enemies too. I had to get Tylenol made at a compounding pharmacy. Maybe you could get some anti-depressants made? What I have done to reconcile myself to the oh-so-limited diet is simply look at eating as I would any other bodily function. It is something necessary, it is something I do to survive...
  19. You could make chopsticks out of a couple of pens.
  20. 20. You can enjoy it even if you DO have a headache.
  21. But I still want a cigarette afterwards.
  22. Thanks for that info! I am almost out of my specially made Tylenol. Although I only tried Aleve once, long before any food intolerances hit and it didn't do much for my headache, I will try it again. Tylenol never did much for me either so what difference would it make? I WISH I could get ibuprophen, but it is too close to aspirin which I react to badly.
  23. For me it's the corn.
  24. And oh, how I love them all back! As crummy as I feel, I think I am the luckiest person in the world!
  25. Holy cow! I'm crying again. But this time it's because I found out my friends are organizing a fundraiser so I can get that MRI. I feel TERRIBLE about taking charity - I've always been one to give charity, not recieve it. But I feel wonderful knowing that my friends care about me so much. And it WILL be good to finally find out what this is - even if it turns...
