  1. Because soy is also one of the top 8 allergens, it too must be listed in the ingredients. But yeah, soda isn't good for anyone. It's loaded with corn syrup and who knows what else. Good old water is best.
  2. I have an intolerance to corn as well as an aspirin allergy. That left Tylenol as my only choice but I had to have it made at a compounding pharmacy to avoid the corn. I went to the free clinic for the prescription so I saved the cost of a doctor's visit, but it still costs 37 dollars for what would be a two dollar bottle at the store. How do you do with...
  3. I have trouble with soy. But I have to admit, I can't find Stretch-Tite where I live so I am now using (believe it or not) Safeway brand. It has that same fantastic cling and it SAYS microwavable, but I don't use ANY plastic in the microwave period. I think your problem may just be that you haven't healed yet. All of us at first had good days and bad...

  5. I love love love Stretch-Tite. But make sure you don't use it in the microwave because it contains the "bad plastic" that will leach chemicals into your food when heated.
  6. So sorry to hear that. But before you go you should know that untreated celiac can lead to lots of other nasties, from RA to cancer. It might just be (given your family history) that you ALSO have celiac, and perhaps a gluten-free diet will help in your fight with this other problem. Or at least make you feel a little better. ARCHIVED Pizza

Somebody here mentioned that years ago, but if you could post your recipe I bet we'd all like to try it.
  9. Also, go to the coping section here and read the Newbie 101 thread. It'll help you to avoid the mistakes a lot of us made at first. And while you're there, read the thread Blessed Mommy started today about the gains she has made. It'll give you lots of encouragement.
  10. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I was just like you - I ate whatever came to hand (usually junk food) and couldn't cook. I'm still not the greatest cook and it's hard to become motivated because I live alone. So I cook simple meals like chicken with rice and broccoli. I cook in big batches and freeze individual servings so I can just grab a ziplock bag out...
  11. I don't know a lot about hyperglycemia but I looked it up. Are you under a doctor's care for it? It sounds like it could easily lead to diabetes. But I found some info on a good diet: Open Original Shared Link If you scroll down to the heading "A balanced plate", they talk about things like broccoli and sweet potatoes being good for you. I would think...
  12. It takes a while to feel better and to heal. In the meantime you really should be eating a bigger variety. Instead of just red meat, how about poultry, pork and fish? Instead of just apples, how about fresh veggies like broccoli or carrots? And there's really no need to go grain free. Rice should be OK for you. And if you don't want rice, how about potatoes...
  13. There are quite a few folks here who claim they are so sensitive that they can't eat anything from a facility that also processes wheat without getting a celiac reaction. I am sure there are kids with peanut allergies who are just as sensitive. And with the potential for kids at school to trade lunches or desserts, plus the potential for kids to not wash...
  14. I don't know if probiotics made me heal faster or not, but I do believe they helped. I still take them every day and probably always will.

Are you coming from Rapid? If so, go south on 79. Just past Hermosa you'll see the turnoff (on your right) for Rte. 36 heading toward Custer. It's the first building on the left. (You can see it from 79.) They are the ones the Rapid City journal just named Best Pizza in the Hills. You'll love it!

    ARCHIVED Pizza

Hooray! My neighbor just told me she is going there tomorrow. She's going to get me one to go! If I can control my willpower I can bag up individual servings and put it in the freezer. (Fat chance. I'll probably eat the whole thing!)

    ARCHIVED Pizza

So I went to Rapid City yesterday and did some heavy duty shopping. Stopped at Lintz Brothers on the way back. I got their gluten-free pizza with mushrooms. FRESH mushrooms, not canned! It was the best pizza I've had since I left Connecticut. As a matter of fact we made another stop before returning home and I made sure the car was locked because (even though...
  18. Hard boiled eggs? Lettuce wraps with various different meats? Cheese? Fruit?
  19. Hmm...You're SURE you're not getting CC'd from something in your house or at work? No double dipping in the peanut butter or mayo? All your meds and supplements are gluten-free? Separate toaster? No crumbs in the silverware drawer? How about your cookware? Not using the same cast iron or teflon pans you used to cook gluten in? Did you go off dairy at...
  20. I see you are also questioning the cheese. The best thing you can do is wait a couple of weeks and when you're feeling better, try eating just one of the ingredients by itself. If you get sick you'll know that's it. If not, try another ingredient, etc. As I said above, it could be you've developed an intolerance to soy or corn syrup, or any of the other ingredients...
  21. Their statement does NOT say they are produced on the same equipment, but in the same facility. There is a big difference. I would think if so many others here eat them with no problem it is something else that made you sick. I looked up the ingredients in the rice mix and although there is no gluten, there is soy and corn syrup solids. Maybe those are what...
  22. You won't develop an intolerance to rice from eating it too much, but you might get tired of it. Can you eat wite potatoes? Sweet potatoes? They both go good with just about anything. The sugar in juices is a problem. It seems manufacturers care more about profits than our health, so they advertise these juices (and other things) as healthy while filling...
  23. I wish I liked peanut butter. It would be so nice because it's nutritious and convenient and doesn't need refrigeration. But alas, I have never liked it, even when I was a kid. My PBJ sandwiches were alway "just jelly". I DO like Reese's PB cups. Can anyone think of something besides chocolate that might taste good with PB? As I said, jelly is out. (The...
  24. If you have tried several different brands and react the same way to all, check to see what the common ingredients are. One (or more) of them is the culprit. What you can do is stop eating them until you're feeling better, then try one ingredient at a time in its purest form - if you trial eggs for example, just poach one and see if you react. If it's the...
  25. They call me Patty Poopy Pants And I don't feel so hot My brain is in a constant fog My rash itches a lot It's hard to get to sleep at night Although I'm always tired My doctor thinks I'm crazy so It's time that he was fired My feet are swollen every night My joints all really ache I get the hiccups every day I just can't catch a break ...
