ARCHIVED Should Enriched gluten-free Flour Be The Next Battle?
bartfull replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't worry about ice cream. It has CALCIUM! It's GOOD FOR US! And I have a double dose of calcium every day!! -
ARCHIVED Should Enriched gluten-free Flour Be The Next Battle?
bartfull replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Before I got sick and started eating better, I was living on junk food. I used to get funny looks from people when I would say I wished they would vitamin fortify potato chips the way they do cereal, because potato chips were what I ate for breakfast every day. (Of course it wouldn't have mattered back then because I wasn't digesting anything and wouldn... -
ARCHIVED Pain, Bloating, Even After Strictly Gluten Free
bartfull replied to Andirubes's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
All it would take is to dip your knife into the same butter/mayo/whatever that your in-laws dipped theirs into. Even if you have seperate condiments, can you be sure no one else has used them when you weren't looking? -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Going Broke
bartfull replied to janiney08's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Money's been really tight for me lately. I stopped going to my local health food store (about the only place to find gluten-free foods where I live) and am saving a bundle. I eat whole foods all day and just have ice cream for my treat. For convenience sake I cook in large batches and freeze the leftovers in individual servings. So I'm not having sandwiches... -
ARCHIVED Went To Doctor Today.
bartfull replied to mjcoelnc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ah, I understand. I'm in the same boat and the clinic I went to just lost their best doctor. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do if I need a doctor now. So what you need to do now is go back. If you get the same NP tell him you want to find out WHY you have tenderness, that you're worried about cancer, and you need to be tested. They may not have... -
ARCHIVED Should Enriched gluten-free Flour Be The Next Battle?
bartfull replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bet they would sell more bread if they WERE vitamin fortified. As it is now, I try to avoid gluten-free breads becasue they ARE empty calories. I save them for an occasional treat. If I knew I were at least getting some nutrition along with all of the calories and extra expense I would probably eat a lot more sandwiches. -
ARCHIVED Went To Doctor Today.
bartfull replied to mjcoelnc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Call back and INSIST that you talk to the doctor! Tell her that the NP was useless. You already KNEW you had tenderness there. You need to find out WHY! Either that or find a new doctor. I know that's easier said than done. But stick with it. -
ARCHIVED Is This Dh? My 4 Year Old Has Had This Rash For 3 Years!
bartfull replied to norahsmommy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Make sure they do the biopsy on CLEAR skin right next to an ACTIVE lesion. If they biopsy the lesion itself it will turn out false negative. And if the lesion is not active it won't do any good either. Read as much as you can on the DH section for more info. -

ARCHIVED Any One Have Underarm Heaviness Or Pain?
bartfull replied to mjcoelnc's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Don't want to scare you but I think you should see a doctor. Could be a swollen lymph node from inflammation, or it could be, well, something worse. Please, get it checked. -
ARCHIVED What's In Your Kitchen Kit?
bartfull replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would think an electric skillet would be most versatile. You could boil water in it so rice and veggies and eggs would work. You can fry in it of course, and if you bring a spatula, a slotted spoon, and a regular spoon, you would have all the tools you need. When I moved here ten years ago I came almost empty handed. I had a coffee maker, a frying pan... -
ARCHIVED Oh Good Lord- Tests, Labs And Bs
bartfull replied to StephanieL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You know, when I was a kid I was really sickly and underweight. My mom started giving me (at the suggestion of the doctor) a "medicine to make me hungry". I of course believed everything my Mom told me at that age, so I started eating a lot because the placebo effect really did make me hungry. -
ARCHIVED And My Search Is Likely Over...
bartfull replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
HEY!! I resemble that remark! You might be surprised to find out that some of these little old men and women with their walkers are actually younger people whose bodies have been so ravaged by long-term celiac that they just LOOK old. -
ARCHIVED Lowering Food Costs
bartfull replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A freezer is a good investment. Even the small tabletop ones will help. That way you can stock up on whichever meat is on sale and NEVER have to pay full price. I eat mostly chicken and when it goes on sale (once a month here) I buy enough to last until next month. And when I cook it I cook big batches so I don't use as much gas for cooking or heat the house... -
Shopko Naturals are the supplements I take. "Contain no sugar, salt, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, artificial colors or flavors". They are cheap too. Most are $7.99 or less and they frequently have a buy one get one free special. They don't have a multi so I am taking 3,000 mcg of B12, 5,000 mcg of biotin, 4,000 iu of D3, 1,000 mcg of C, 1,000 mg of calcium...

I have no answer for you but if I post on your thread it'll go back to the top where people who know more about testing will see it. I hope you get some answers. -
All my life I had terrible insomnia. After I went gluten-free I started sleeping well - too well. It seemed I could sleep for ten to twelve hours a night, straight through. Well, lately I try to go to bed at my usual 8PM, but I can't sleep! I end up getting back up and often stay up 'til ten or eleven. I then get up at 5:30 or 6. It just dawned on...

ARCHIVED Adding In Problematic Foods
bartfull replied to user001's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
User, eggs are not dairy. Dairy is milk and milk products. And now that you mention it, eggs made me nauseous at first. That bothered me because I have always loved eggs. Then I read that cooking eggs in the shell without exposing them to air caused, I don't remember exactly, but I think it was higher sulfer content that could cause nausea. So now I do over... -
ARCHIVED Adding In Problematic Foods
bartfull replied to user001's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, potatoes are an example. They were giving me trouble so I did away with them for six months. Then I tried them and now, if I don't overdo it, I can have them two or three times a week. Blueberries are my favorite fruit and I keep trying them every six months but so far they still don't work. I live on a very limited diet, partly because I don... -
ARCHIVED Best Gluten-Free Asian Sauces

Here's a recipe for duck sauce that can easily be adapted to be gluten-free. Then, add some hot pepper flakes and it would make a good tiger sauce. Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Delay Time-- Last Question I Promise

Got no answer for you but I wanted to tell you NOT to make it your last question. Answering questions is what this board is all about. I've been here for three years plus, and I still ask questions. -
ARCHIVED Needing Help From Anyone With Corn Problems :(
bartfull replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't know. I have avoided HFCS for years, long before I developed the corn intolerance. I saw a TED Talk a long time ago where a scientist explained that the body can't process the stuff. It's really bad for us (according to him). I believe it. I know an elderly lady who was really really sick until she cut it out. If you need caffeine, how about coffee...- 17 replies

ARCHIVED Needing Help From Anyone With Corn Problems :(
bartfull replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yeah, it's really hard. A food journal is a great idea. The corn allergy sites are still full of information on where to find hidden corn and there are quite a few people on them who have intolerances instead of allergies. For me, the protein is the problem. That's why corn starch is OK. But those clear plastic bottles you get individual servings of water...- 17 replies
