ARCHIVED Needing Help From Anyone With Corn Problems :(
bartfull replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I avoided all corn at first. It is difficult because corn is not one of the top 8 allergens so the label doesn't have to list it if it is not an actual ingredient but was USED IN PROCESSING. That means bagged salads are out because they are washed in a "citrus" wash that is made with corn. As a matter of fact, just about anything with "ascorbic acid" that...- 17 replies

Thank God we still have the choice to buy regular gas where I live! -
ARCHIVED I Think I Made The Watch List...
bartfull replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Melt some butter. Squeeze a bunch of fresh garlic into it. Saute some mushrooms into it. Put a bunch of shredded cheese on your pasta and then pour the butter/garlic/mushrooms on top. WAY better than spaghetti sauce. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Funny....but Maybe Not?
bartfull replied to SMRI's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
On top of gluten, I have a corn intolerance. And with an older car that can't handle ethanol, I can truly say I am corn-free and so is my car. -
ARCHIVED Repeated Accidental Glutening Effects?! How Long Does This Last?!
bartfull replied to lmj623's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Always read the label on everything you buy. Even if it's something you buy weekly, read the label because they often change ingredients. Buying two of something? Read the label on both in case one is newer and made with a diiferent recipe. An example: I buy Blue Bunny all natural vanilla ice cream. I have a severe corn intolerance so I can't eat most... -
ARCHIVED Just Starting Out gluten-free
bartfull replied to strum's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Still healing most likely. You'll probably be up and down for a while, and while you're healing just about anything can cause problems. I couldn't even eat lettuce at first. You've read the Newbie thread so you know how to avoid CC, right? So just be careful and give it some time. Hope you're feeling better soon. -

ARCHIVED Most Ridiculous Gluten Comment I've Heard
bartfull replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm thinking that SOME of these comments might come from people who know a celiac. Their celiac friend may have told them they can't have wheat, rye, barley or SOY, because there really are a lot of us who can't tolerate soy. If so, it's understanable that they thought soy had gluten. I may have confused some people inadvertantly too when I told them I can... -
ARCHIVED Gaining Weight Since Going Gluten Free, And Already Overweight!
bartfull replied to JesikaBeth's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you are celiac and you go gluten-free, as healing starts you are absorbing more nutrients as well as more calories. The good news is, if you are healing you will soon start feeling well enough to exercize. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Certification Enforcement Aug 2014
bartfull replied to Celiac Ninja's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The best solution then is to continue to eat whole foods, and when a gluten-free treat is in order, buy from the "good guys" we already trust - Udi's, Canyon Bake House, Against the Grain, etc. -
If you're in the Midwest, it could be shegella. There have been outbreaks here in South Dakota, Texas, Indiana, and other places. If you're going to pick it up, it would likely be from kids. They say it can last from 5 to 7 days or in some cases even more. Severe D, bad stomach cramps, and overwhelming fatigue.

ARCHIVED What If Tests Are Negative?
bartfull replied to marogers5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OK, here's my opinion: First of all, are the rashes really itchy? If so, you might have DH. (Go to the dermatitis Herpetiformis section here and you'll get a ton of information about it, as well as pictures you can compare your own rash to.) The thing is, many people with DH test negative because the disease manifests in the skin rather than in the gut... -
ARCHIVED Confused! About Pans, Utensils, Plates, Etc.
bartfull replied to Daisys mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes, as long as you clean the micro well after cooking gluten foods it should be fine. And unless your regular oven has stuck on food hanging from the "ceiling", it too will be fine. -
ARCHIVED Sick At Grandma's House?
bartfull replied to seezee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Cutting board, wooden spoons, scratched teflon, cast iron pans, the toaster. Any of these that once held gluten could keep cross contaminating any food she cooks with it. -
ARCHIVED ? Misdiagnosed Celiac?
bartfull replied to sjlmckee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Spelt is not gluten-free. Just because you seemed to have no reaction to it doesn't mean you don't have celiac. Some questions: Did you give up dairy? Quite a few of us have trouble with dairy, at least at first. Have you been using the same toaster, teflon pans, wooden spoons or cutting boards? How about plastic containers? Do you use the same... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease For Almost A Year And I Am Almost Sick
bartfull replied to Ashley25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
How about dairy? Lots of celiacs have trouble with dairy because the villi that are damaged are the part that digests dairy. Some lose it permanently but most get it back after a while. -

ARCHIVED Dr. And Pharmacy Insanity
bartfull replied to Serielda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You've been given good advice about meds, but as for the urgent care facility, they should be reported IMO. Any time a person wants to update their info and the office doesn't do it, they should be reported. Suppose it was a penicillin allergy or something of that nature and they failed to put it in your chart? You could easily end up dead! I don't know to...- 26 replies

ARCHIVED Store Employee Telling Me I Don't Have Celiac?

Open Original Shared Link (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) -
No matter what they tell you after the study, if it were ME, I would wait to act on their advice until I had been gluten-free for a few months. I say that because I had terrible insomnia all my life. (A good night was five or six hours, but most nights I got three or four hours! Talk about bags under the eyes!!!) Within three months of being gluten-free...

I was talking to Adelaide through email a while back, comparing aches and pains. We both agreed we didn't like electric heating pads, especially at bedtime. Well, it turns out that she's been making the kind filled with buckwheat that you put in the microwave. She sent me a couple and they are WONDERFUL! Even in this heat, or should I say especially in...

ARCHIVED Ice Cream Maker?
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm having SUCH a great day! Had delicious ice cream for breakfast, came to work and one of my students stopped in. He's showing SO much progress and MASTERED the new song I gave him only YESTERDAY! Then I was goofing around with his guitar and he told me I'm better than the best guitarist in town. (I'll take the complement!) And THEN a former "regular" who... -
