I'm so glad your hubby is going to give gluten-free a try! I hope he doesn't get the mood swings, but maybe you can talk about it ahead of time? Have a word or phrase chosen that either of you can use that basically means "gluten is controlling your/my emotions right now, so let's back off"? Let him know if he's seeming moody you'll say the "magic word"...

ARCHIVED Beware B Vitamin Toxicity!
Bubba's Mom replied to SGRhapsodos's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It still makes me mad that I suffered with really bad gallbladder pain/nausea before I was DXed Celiac. I got an ultrasound which showed no stones, and from then on my comlaints fell on deaf ears. My Dr. actually yelled at me "there's absolutely nothing wrong with your gallbladder!" It's shocking to me how many Dr.s don't think to order the HIDA scan!... -
The hormone CCK is made in your duodenum. It tells your gallbladder to squeeze bile to help digest your foods and your pancrease to release digestive enzymes. If you've ingested gluten it *could* cause enough damage to the duodenum to either stop making or stop sending CCK. The effects should last until enough healing has happened to let things function...

ARCHIVED Blood Test Negative, But Believe I Have Celiac
Bubba's Mom replied to dbelleti's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
About 20-30% of Celiacs test negative in their blood work. I am one of them. I've had various symptoms that seemed to come and go for most of my life. A couple of years ago it hit my digestive system and didn't let up. I had an endoscope scheduled to see if it could be determined what was causing my extreme nausea, bloating, lack of appetite, upper right... -
ARCHIVED 6 Months Gluten Free 35Lbs Lost
Bubba's Mom replied to coppertop's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Congrats on getting the diet right and working so hard to improve your health. You look fantastic! You are an inspiration to those struggling to change their diets and get their lives on the road to health. -
You aren't crazy or paranoid! You have to be that careful. I'm so sorry your mom just doesn't get it. I live with a hubby who's only home on the weekends and a grown son who is mainly here after I go to bed at night. (He's a gluten eater and not the least bit careful). My hubby tries to be aware of spreading gluten around, but sometimes he forgets or...

The symptoms you're having sound like an intolerance to some food. Dairy would be my first guess. It can cause villi flattening too. https://www.celiac.com/articles/50/1/Main-Causes-of-Flattened-Villi/Page1.html You might also have a small intestine bacterial overgrowth. (SIBO) If you have it, the bad bacteria eat the foods you eat and emit toxins that...

ARCHIVED Severe Nausea / Sleep
Bubba's Mom replied to aquaholical's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As you go through the healing process it's common to have all sorts of symptoms. Your need for sleep can be very much caused by low D and anemia. The nausea can be low iron, or low magnesium, along with maybe something you're eating isn't "sitting well"? Does soy bother you? It's a common irritator for many of us. -
ARCHIVED Walking Through The Flour Aisle...
Bubba's Mom replied to Mateto's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I inhaled a very small amount of wheat flour when I cleaned the cabinet that I used to store it in. I was shocked to get such a strong reaction, including neuro symptoms that lasted two months. I avoid the flour aisle in the store! -

I saw Dr. Murry recently and he's looking at other potential RX culprets too. I'm glad that somebody is paying attention and reporting this stuff. -
ARCHIVED The Tale Of The Lemon Bars
Bubba's Mom replied to IrishHeart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm a middle child hump sitter too! LOL I have to admit when you said you were good at back seat manuevers my mind went to a different place than "hump sitting' and wriggling between front and back seats. I applaud your sheer determination, and I'm sure those lemon bars are delicious. With all of the love you put into them they had to be good? ... -
ARCHIVED 2Nd Set Of Blood Results
Bubba's Mom replied to KMMO320's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They say 20-30% of Celiacs test negative in their blood work. There are additional genes that are Celiac besides DQ2 and DQ8 too, but the Dr.s are dismissing it. Many of us go unDXed because of it. I guess I would ask for an endoscope to see "what's causing your distress" and maybe a SIBO breath test? Once you have those, go gluten-free for at least 3... -
ARCHIVED Severe Nausea / Sleep
Bubba's Mom replied to aquaholical's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you had your B vitamins, iron, D3 tested lately? If you are low on any of those it *could* cause the symptoms you are having. It's also possible that the processed foods aren't agreeing with you? Your body does it's best healing while you are sleeping, so I wouldn't be concerned about how much sleep you are needing. Not getting quite that much sleep... -
ARCHIVED Got Results Today
Bubba's Mom replied to Pisqualie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If they are testing for lactose intolerance, the test should DX it. The problem is, The enzyme that digests lactose is made on the tips of the villi. If those tips are damaged from the protein in dairy, gluten, soy, or bacteria, it won't tell you which one is the culprit. It will tell you that lactose intolerance *could* be the cause of digestive upset. If... -
ARCHIVED Got Results Today
Bubba's Mom replied to Pisqualie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's really unfortunate that there's no test that's 100% accurate for Celiac! So many people don't get the DX they need to be healthy. Add in those that are gluten intolerant and there's an awful lot of folks feeling miserable with Dr.s telling them there's nothing wrong with them. The breath test can tell if you're lactose or fructose intollerant, or... -
My blood tests were negative, but the GI did the endoscope anyway to see if she could find the cause of my severe symptoms. I had comletely flattened villi, and ulceration in one area. It was visible to the naked eye. After the scope the Dr. said she was pretty sure it was Celiac. The biopsy report confirmed it.

ARCHIVED The Epic Battle: Antibiotics Vs Probiotics
Bubba's Mom replied to jessthirtytwo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just faced this same problem. I worked so hard trying to build up my healthy bacteria that I hated taking the meds. Be sure to take the probiotics well after the anti-biotics, and eat a banana before taking them. The banana feeds the good bacteria, helping it take hold. -
You may have a small intestine bacterial overgrowth(SIBO)? If you have bad bacteria in your small intestine, they feed on what you eat and emit toxins that can go into your bloodstream and give you a reaction. It would be a good idea to get tested for it. If you don't want to get tested, taking a digestive enzyme supplement when you eat, along with taking...

ARCHIVED Need Major Help With Constipation
Bubba's Mom replied to MaZoodleTwins's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Probiotics help the immune system work more efficiently. If the girls were on any antibiotics the probiotics help replace the good bacteria that gets wiped out along with the bad. It's good to take them together. Most Dr.s don't suggest them, so it's good yours is knowledable about that. They can also help with constipation. Maybe start them again? -
ARCHIVED Help
Bubba's Mom replied to lisamh76's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The gluten-free Rice Krispies went on clearance here too. They are now at Big Lots stores. I fear they aren't going to keep making them. I go through 2-3 boxes a week. I've been buying up hoarding what I can find. -

ARCHIVED Heart Complications?
Bubba's Mom replied to karkar892's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If I get a small dose of cc, one of my first symptoms is throwing PVCs. I've gotten chest pain that radiated to my jaw, arm, and back too. Before my Dx I had a bad chest pain episode and was taken by ambulance to the ER. My blood pressure was sky high. They did a heart cath and found no blockages. My EKG looks normal unless I'm having PVCs at the time.... -
ARCHIVED I Attended My First Support Group Meeting.
Bubba's Mom replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear there wasn't a better turn out for the support group. After all of your planning and getting away for some "you time" it had to be pretty disappointing? When first DXed I looked for a group in my area and found there had been one, but they sort of disbanded and they no longer got together. I was hoping for a nice sized group that I could get... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics And Digestive Enzymes?
Bubba's Mom replied to Kirstie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your hubby's reaction isn't common to taking digestive enzymes, BUT if he's taking enzymes that are fruit based (bromelain, papain) it could indicate he has a fructose intolerance? It might be worth having him tested for that. It's a simple test where they measure the gases in one's breath by exhaling into a tube connected to a meter, then have them drink... -
ARCHIVED Hla Type... I'm Confulsed
Bubba's Mom replied to idliketoknow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm also very sensitive to the slightest cc. Can't tolerate soy, dairy, peanuts, corn, MSG, or yeast. The only grain I eat is brown rice. If I get trace cc, my reactions are severe and can be neurological (balance, memory, cognitive, mood) digestive, or DH like skin eruptions. I just don't understand why the Dr.s dismiss anything but DQ2 and DQ8? Maybe...
