  1. Actually, I don't get migraines but when I get glutened, the first thing I crave is a diet coke. I try not to drink them every day, but as soon as I get glutened, I have to have one. The other thing I crave is sugar. So maybe the exhaustion and fogginess is from the gluten. Or it could be from the onset of a migraine caused by gluten.
  2. I keep a symptom log on my ipad but I just use the regular notes app that came with it. (The one that looks like a legal pad.) I bought 2 food allery apps - My Allergies and AllergyDetect and I wasn't that impressed with either one. Of the two, I liked AllergyDetect the best. I'm not sure if they're ipad only apps or if they work on the phone too.
  3. I second what Irish said. You can't take care of your mom if you don't take care of yourself too.
  4. Actually that was pretty funny
  5. I would suggest reading Healthier Without Wheat by Stephen Wagnen. He discusses a lot about how you can test negative for Celiac Disease and still be gluten intolerant. Eliminate the gluten and try the diet. See if it works. Give it a month. You don't need a prescription to do the diet. Or a special test. And if it doesn't work, you aren't out much...
  6. Wellness is another great cat food brand. They use human grade meat, not the nasty byproducts that they use in the cheap food. Wellness not cheap, though. But you can tell the difference when you open the can. It actually looked good enough for me to eat, not that I ever tried it. (It would be much more appetizing than the kibble.) When my cat came...
  7. I don't know if dogs can get Celiac or not, but there's a whole lot of research out there now suggesting a link between corn and other fillers used in dog and cat foods and the high incidence of cancer, diabetes, kidney failure, etc. in dogs and cats now. I had to switch my cat to a 100% meat-based diet because he developed kidney failure. Part of the reason...
  8. The First Year: Gluten Free and Celiac Disease was a good one.
  9. Interesting link about the unpasturized milk. They sell it at one of the farmer's markets here and they have to label it "not for human consumption" because of the regulations. But of course everyone is buying it to drink it. Our ancestors survived drinking it without it killing them. MenHen, do check out the movie. It was very interesting. I'm probably...
  10. Today's lunch will be salad greens with Basalmic Vinagrette dressing and homemade turkey soup. Plus I brought an apple if I'm still hungry. The soup has leftover thanksgiving turkey, wild rice, carrots, celery, and homemade veggie stock. Now that I figured out how super easy it is to make veggie stock, I'm using a ton of it in homemade soups. Nothing...
  11. I ate some in gluten-free chocolate chip cookies last week and was fine. Enjoy your meal. The fondue is making my mouth water
  12. Sushi is hard. Not only do you have to avoid the regular soy sauce, but some of the other sauces used in the sushi also have gluten. Like the sauce they use on the smoked eel (which was my favorite before going gluten-free). And teriyaki sauce can have glutent too. Doesn't leave much options except for lots of edimame Most soy sauce has wheat unless...
  13. There's a certain sick irony in the fact that you can't buy individual insurance because of a disease that doesn't cost the insurance company any money to have treated, other than the occasional testing. It's not like they have to pay for your gluten free food. I guess the higher risk of contracting an autoimmune disease is what they're worried about. ...
  14. I order the plain baked potato from Wendy's all the time and have never had a problem, so it may be the cheese sauce. That's frustrating. I didn't realize the chili was okay to eat. My son and I went to Wendy's Sunday for lunch and they ran out of baked potatoes. It's so frustrating to go to a restaurant where you can only order a couple of things and...
  15. Just to clarify, for me I plan on going full dairy free after the holidays. I'm doing dairy light until then. I just didn't want to add one more thing on my plate this time of year. And my problems with it are annoying, but nothing I can't live with for a month. But come January 1st, I'm going fully dairy free. But for you it sounds like this is a lot...
  16. pricklypear - My allergies are going haywire right now, so that makes sense. Thanks for the info.
  17. I do BioSil drops, Evening Primrose Oil (1,000 mg/day) and Biotin (5,000 mg/day) and it seems to be helping. But it takes time. I've also been gluten-free since August and the times I've been glutened, I have a bad reaction with my hair falling out. But once I'm gluten-free for a couple of weeks, it gets better. Also, did you have your iron checked...
  18. Progresso has quite a few gluten free soups, including Clam Chowder, Corn Chowder, Lentil, and Nacho Chicken. They label them gluten free on either the front of the can or the back above the bar code. My schedule is pretty crazy too, so I keep a can at work, a can in my car, and a can at home at all times. I also have Lara Bars in each place too. I...
  19. I'm not a friend of Bill myself, but I have family and friends that are. And I've wondered if there's any connection between gluten and alcohol. Since there's so many other symptoms out there, why can't this be related too. Good for you on 15 months sober. That's something to be proud of.
  20. Thanks for the help. I'll just wait and see. It seems to be getting better over the past few days. I had just never experienced that before and knew someone here on the board could help me find an answer.
  21. I've been gluten free for about 5 months now. In the past week or so I've developed white, scaly bumps on my forehead, right above my nose. They don't itch at all. They just feel very scaly and dry. I don't think it's DH, since I've read that DH itches horribly. And I've never had any skin condition like this before to compare it to. Do you think...
  22. This is one thing I hate about American convential medicine. This need to focus on one thing and not take the entire body into account. I think this is also one of the reasons why Celiac and Gluten Intolerance are so hard to diagnose. They affect more than just one part of the body. Well, I can tell you from my personal experience that Celiac can...
  23. Could you have an intolerance to any other kinds of foods. Lots of people on here have issues with corn, soy, nightshade vegetables, msg, etc. You might look into an elimination diet to see if you can find an underlying issue. I was reading a book last night that said healing times can vary greatly from person to person. A lot of it can depend on...
  24. And that is why I like nurses so much better than doctors. For them it's more about making their patients feel better than the size of their ego or how much money they make.
  25. My husband was a bit unsupportive at first too. And part of it was my own fault. For years I've tried a bunch of different diets to find out what was wrong with me. You see, I knew it was food related, but I couldn't put my finger on it. So he had seen me try all this stuff and give it up after a month or two because it wasn't helping me. But when I...
