  1. I buy flax seed and grind it myself and add it to foods every day. While I am generally not all hippie-ish about my food and what I eat and put into my body, I do and have always preferred something natural over something chemically processed. I find that now more than ever I am quite careful about how much fiber I am getting and if I don't get enough it...
  2. Some things are basic precautions. Every label, every time. Everything flowerqueen mentioned. Because I actually have OCD it is difficult for me to separate what part of what I do that is normal precaution and what is me being mental. I live in a shared household and because of this before I cook I will get a fresh rag and clean the counters before I cook...
  3. Pan seared salmon with creamy citrus dill sauce, garden salad with raspberry cabernet dressing and bacon tomato bisque. It's soup season again!
  4. Thank you psawyer since that is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to know what "rule" it was exactly I would be signing up for if I were to sign the petition. For many of us 20 ppm is frankly not safe and would leave us reeling for weeks. I know they have to aim lower but it leaves a lot of room for the higher batches as well and leaves us simply not...
  5. It would have been lovely if the article mentioned what the proposed standards by the FDA are. Neither the article nor the petition mention what standard it is the petition is trying to get finalized. Frankly there are some things that could do more harm than good which is sad but true and I just wish I knew what was being proposed so I knew if I would be...
  6. I had totally forgotten about nettle tea or it's existence. It is the only thing that my grammy says keeps her going. It is the difference between her hands being in knots and her being able to knead bread and crochet like she always has. Without it her joints will swell like balloons.
  7. I have to agree that you are definitely not eating enough. Honestly though, after I've had a glutening incident I find that for several days I have very severe stomach cramps. They are quite similar to the pain I'll get after not eating for days, and I've found only one thing helps. Constant snacking. The only relief I get is to keep something, anything,...
  8. My Venice Bakery crusts finally arrived!!! Okay okay, so I didn't actually order them until last weekend. They shipped Monday and arrived today so it wasn't that awful a wait but I thought I just may die wanting pizza. So, we only got the sample pack of three 5 inch crusts to try them until we were sure we wanted to order more. For the first time in ...
  9. If you can't even find a gluten free generic alternative I'd also recommend the idea of chasing Tylenol and aspirin with a coffee or some sort of caffeine. It's pretty much the same thing and you can probably be sure to at least get the acetaminophen and aspirin in the same dosages you are used to.
  10. I haven't used the dishwasher in quite some time. I noticed that my CC pretty much stopped at the same time I stopped using the dishwasher and started also using entirely my own dishes. I can't say for sure which the issue was. Recently the dishwasher broke and my MIL asked if I'd use it if she bought a new one. She pretty much was at the point of begging...
  11. I only know I have celiac because of my stupid defective gallbladder. I had stones and kept having horrid attacks but my insurance told me that having it out was an elective surgery that they wouldn't pay for. Although they were more than happy to pay for 1-2 ER visits per month and to keep me drugged senseless on narcotics. Eventually a stone got out and...
  12. What I want when I'm sick is usually mac and cheese. What I have the energy to make and what is sensible to eat is usually ramen with rice noodles. I try to keep some on hand. They seem expensive at around a buck a package but when I'm sick and they're the only thing that I can bear the thought of eating suddenly a buck for a bowl of soup that takes 3 minutes...
  13. Watch on the M&M's if they aren't the plain ones. Many of what should be gluten free flavors because they have no gluten ingredients will have a "may contain" warning on the package. I noticed that while previous a particular flavor did not carry that warning, it suddenly did have that warning the last time I was at the store and picked up a pack. This...
  14. I always, and I mean always, have some sort of apple-y something with my pork and I was thinking that maybe I needed to not do that. But somehow the apple just is calling to me. I stopped at the garden market on the way home and picked up a beauteous little squash. I'm sending my husband for a haircut and I think I'll have him bring an apple home to add to...
  15. I've had to explain to people what I've gone through in my own kitchen to make it safe. I've explained to people that after 10 months, my husband going gluten free, and the fact that I trust him with the life and death decision about whether or not to unplug me after a horrific accident, I still read a label on any food my husband hands me. If it isn't packaged...
  16. Last night we had grilled chicken breasts, corn and garlic ranch mashed potatoes. My husband got some pork chops out of the freezer which I suppose is my queue to so something with them for dinner tonight. I had to work today so maybe on my way home I'll see if I can find a nice looking squash to have with them or something.
  17. I have concerns about microwaving in plastic that are not the traditional "zomg ur gunna get cancer!!!" concerns. Mine are more grounded in our celiac world. When you microwave in plastic you will notice maybe not the first time, but over time that the plastic becomes damaged. Well, just because you can't see it the first time doesn't mean it hasn't begun...
  18. I've had symptoms my entire life. Sometimes they've been worse than others. Then... everything in my life got great and then bad all at once. I met a wonderful man who turned out to be a great love of my life. We decided to get married and all was well. I was living with my best friend who also had met a great guy and was planning on getting married so life...
  19. I'm 34 and was diagnosed just before my birthday entirely by accident and happenstance. If it hadn't been for a related medical problem that led to emergency surgery I'd still be suffering with worsening symptoms today wondering what it is making me so sick. I realized after my diagnosis as I looked back that I have been sick with celiac symptoms for literally...
  20. Hubs was craving a sandwich so he managed to drag me away from my video game where I was furiously working on my in game cooking. I was gathering stuff to cook. We had to shop to to make sandwiches. I guess I pretty much do the same things in my video game that I do in real life. We made some mac and cheese and ham sandwiches with some Chobani for...
  21. I ate today! This of course led to a disagreement between my butt and I on how far was safe to travel from the bathroom but for an extremely short period of time there was food in me. I meandered about the store while they were filling my prescription because they have the most horrid chairs there and found some bison for $4 a pound marked down 2 days before...
  22. I do use a throat spray, it's not particularly effective for more than a few minutes at a time at this point and I am probably using far more than any doctor would be comfortable with me using but whatever. Don't use for more than 2 days? Yeah, got that covered times 2. Spit it out? I'm pretty sure once you've sprayed it directly onto the back of your throat...
  23. So it took some time but I think I do reasonably okay. I deal with things as they come up and do really well with laughing things off and taking them in stride when things go poorly. I even joked about how sick I am. I'm pretty competitive by nature and my husband was also sick. Well I was to the doctor today and apparently I have a sinus infection because...
  24. Yeah, three days is a walk in the park. If I could do the flu in three days I'd skip the shot. I do the flu in about 2 to 4 weeks and have never once managed it without an argument with my doctor about whether or not I need to be hospitalized. Seriously, unless I'm literally dying I would much prefer to be miserable at home thanks. Although to be fair I usually...
  25. There is nothing other than gluten that I avoid 100%. I do avoid tyramine as much as is possible. My motto is everything in moderation. Do you mean rock candy? Where you just boil sugar and water and put it in a jar, add a stick and put it on a counter? There really isn't any reason this isn't safe. I mean you're boiling it so there won't be any little...
