The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made arepas today, not really sure what I wanted for supper but I knew I wanted it on an arepa. We just made some burgers and fries. Burgers are awesome on arepas, they're so magical. -

The glass cutting board I have is only smooth on one side, the other side is lightly textured. It's still super easy to clean, I've never had to scrub it and I've occasionally let it sit a day or so before washing it. (I still hate it.) -

I was going to say Lara bars until you said you wanted to make them yourself. Anyway, a quick search found this and they look pretty good. I may even decide to try out making some. Open Original Shared Link -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I sent my husband to the store for canning lids, he came home with marked down pork cube steak. I fried them up and made myself an apple in caramel sauce to go with it. (Hubby won't eat cooked apples, he's kinda weird.) I made a marshmallow salad earlier so we're just having that with our dinner. I almost made a vegetable. -
So my whole blurry vision on the left finally blew into a migraine after 48 hours. So I guess I have my answer on that, although I still intend to see the neurologist. Yesterday morning after the whole 2x4 to the head feeling settled into regular old blinding pain and fear of being more than 2 feet from a barf bucket I was also able to find a pharmacy that...

The only reason I started off staying away from sharing plastic and silicon utensils is because everyone in the house just loves to leave them all sitting in pans on the stove. Every spoon in the house is melty on the end which gives gluten all sorts of fun hiding places. I went with stainless steel pans and mostly metal utensils because even if someone else...

I have issues with a shared kitchen and no one respecting my stuff. I bought a glass cutting board at Wal-Mart and hate it, but it's the only one I won't have to replace every time someone does something stupid. -
ARCHIVED Ms Or Atypical Migraine?
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks Raven, it was my understanding that new MS lesions won't show up without contrast and none was used. The ER doctor refused to rule out MS and frankly I've been sitting in limbo between MS and lupus for years so it wouldn't be a shock. After all the difficulty in confirming that my prescription is gluten free I need a pre-authorization for it from my... -
ARCHIVED Ms Or Atypical Migraine?

Thanks guys, I'll make an appointment to see my eye doc this week and get checked. I used to be a member of the Lion's Club which does a lot of work with trying to preserve eyesight. Since my mother is also blind in one eye I do know to watch for the loss of peripheral vision. Never dawned on me it could start like this but it's a good reminder to get my... -
Sunday morning started out typical. Alarm went off, I debated throwing it across the room, after a few minutes I dragged myself grumbling from bed and talked myself into a shower knowing and resenting it would wake me up. So far, so good. Then as I ate breakfast I started seeing a brightness in the lower left side of my vision. I was seeing it with both eyes...

I don't have a full time job, heck I don't have a part time job! I only work as a sub at a local college. Anyway, my husband works and I more or less don't and I still don't cook for him. I'm pretty sure I didn't marry him so I could be his maid or personal chef and if he doesn't like what I make (and generally he doesn't) than he can starve or cook for himself... -
ARCHIVED What's For Dessert Tonight?
Adalaide replied to sora's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made my husband some white chocolate macadamia popsicles. They're gluten free but I don't do white chocolate. He says they're pretty good though and he's been finishing dinner with one every night. We were out last night and I had creme brulee, I probably need to lay off dessert for a month now. -
That's so awesome! You're lucky to have such a great dad. I happen to think my dad is pretty awesome, but he'd never do that for me. (And not because it would take him an hour to get google search results on his crap internet connection. )

Oh gosh, doctors... my doctor (who I love) actually told me he probably knows less about celiac than me and sent me home and told me to find info on the internet. He didn't hope I did, he TOLD me to! Now I bring him resources so he can give information to his other celiac patients. You're right, everyone here is awesome. They convinced me I wasn't crazy...

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
Adalaide replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I found apple cinnamon Chex! It isn't exactly what I expected but I like it. I will definitely be getting more when I can find it on sale. Yeah, little miss coupon was so excited she paid full price for a box of cereal. Worth it. -
ARCHIVED Hidden Valley Ranch Reply

I also recall reading that article. I almost posted that I had read it but then didn't find it on a quicky google search and was afraid I was imagining things or mistaken. I guess my memory isn't as bad as I feared! I eat Hidden Valley all the time, if it had gluten I'd know within half an hour. -

Call it celebrating summer and have an extra daiquiri! I think I'm just going to have a spinach salad, I had meat for lunch since I'll be working tonight and have a really late supper. -

That's my bad on the seasoning, I guess I looked at an old ingredient list. Where I live fast food places don't hire teenagers, they hire people who don't speak English. I get that everyone needs a job but if I can't communicate my needs to someone who understands me I can't be safe. Wendy's is the only local national fast food place that hires adults who... -
ARCHIVED Mrs. Leepers
Adalaide replied to Kelleybean's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would never buy something like that for myself but my MIL brought a box home so I tried it. My husband hated it while I found it to be tolerable. I ate the leftovers because I just couldn't throw them away. (I grew up on a family farm with grandparents who grew up during the depression. I hear my grammy scolding me every time I even consider throwing food... -

I think kids are perfectly adorable. When they're not my responsibility and stay a safe enough distance from me that I'm not expected to interact with them. Frankly though the whole rows and rows in front of me of toddlers eating pretzels and touching EVERYTHING at church kind of freaks me out. I won't touch anything there for fear that some kid put their... -
Clearly her mother isn't Vulcan. My MIL says some equally stupid things, so I totally understand the frustration. I'm not sure I'd be able to resist the temptation to tell her where the closest local "greasy spoon" diner is and when it opens for breakfast. I don't know how people can be unhappy with naturally gluten free foods for breakfast. Eggs, grits...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Ever Get Mcdonalds Burgers
Adalaide replied to beebs's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I wouldn't eat at McDonald's, which has nothing to do with the fry debate. To the best of my knowledge the seasoning they use on the Angus burgers has wheat. Since all burgers get cooked on the same grill in the same place, that means that it's quite likely that the regular burgers will end up with a small amount of gluten on them. I tend to be rather sensitive... -
ARCHIVED Rash When Cleaning The Kitchen
Adalaide replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get flat, red, blotchy rashes frequently from cleaning. It never itches but is uncomfortable in a way that I don't really think I can describe. I eventually discovered that my reactions are to certain fragrances and dyes in products. It's quite possible that you're having a reaction to something other than gluten. -

ARCHIVED What Did You Have For Lunch Today?
Adalaide replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Mid 70's and our usual barely existent humidity, I'll take it! I was going to have a spinach salad with chicken and honey mustard dressing, but instead I threw the whole thing on an arepa. Quick, easy and no mess. I followed up with a little cottage cheese and homemade apple butter.
