  1. Lynne thank you for the kind words. I'm very proud of my husband (could anybody tell? ) I agree band teachers rock! I only ever teach two kids at a time and even then I try to get them to come separately if I possibly can! I've had groups of up to eight kids before (I used to substitute teach at music schools) and, well, I love the recorder but eight...
  2. Oh yeah I forgot, the magnesium supplement I have at home is I think meant for when you take it for a longer period, so that's probably why the dosage is lower, it's maybe not a good idea to take up to 2000mg a day for a longer period? My hubby usually takes the 300mg every day, it helps him not get too stressed. It's magnesium citrate. I'm not really...
  3. Well if it says you can take four tablespoons a day then you'd be all right taking another two, right? Although I guess by now it's another day, sorry I had to go and then hubby took over the computer... Do you eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, or are those hard for your stomach? Because that can be a simple reason for being constipated, if you...
  4. Basically I guess it comes down to what you personally think is the most important thing about a job, for some people it's financial security, and for others it's flexibility, or being your own boss, or whatever. I teach privately, I absolutely love my life, I have plenty of free time, but I never have very much money. Just so you know where I'm coming...
  5. It suits you Vincent! Pauliina
  6. I think the nice thing about a forum like this is that you meet so many people with totally different occupations and lives. Most of my friends are musicians that I learned to know at the conservatory, or that my husband plays with... It's really interesting to read about everybody! I studied recorder playing (think renaissance and baroque music) and...
  7. The bottle I have here at home recommends 300mg in a day, how much did you already take? Hey that's great news about the GED course! If for any reason you need help with Finnish or Dutch, you know who to PM! (sorry I'm feeling a bit silly today:)). How's the housing situation going? Pauliina
  8. Hey, I think we're losing sight of the things that really matter here! I mean, obviously... what are you going to do with your hair now? I do think this is worth some black and pink stripes! Speaking of stirring things up... in Dutch, a friendly way to sign a letter is "met vriendelijke groeten" which word by word translates as "with friendly greetings...
  9. It's not true that you have to notice it right after eating. It's possible, but actually I think more often people react a while after eating. Some only notice symptoms a whole 24 hours after ingesting gluten. In my own case it takes me about 4-6 hours before I really react, though it can kinda start to build up a bit before that with a full feeling in my...
  10. Well, let's hope that you only need to be hungry for a few days, and then you'll have a clearer head and can come up with a grocery list of things you can eat! Just don't touch the gluteny stuff now! Pauliina
  11. Woohoo! Nice to come home to such good news! Lynne, you have such impressive sounding problems, I almost had to get a dictionary for the eye things. Pauliina
  12. It's quite common for blood tests to be negative if the disease hasn't progressed very far yet. It's even possible to have negative blood tests and a positive biopsy. It's good that your doc wants to investigate this further. Pauliina
  13. Yes brain fog is actually a very common symptom! So are various neurological symptoms like the weakness you describe. You absolutely need to be gluten free, and your husband needs to take this more seriously! I wonder if it would help if you let him read this thread? If you want we'll set him straight! I realize he's probably very stressed at the moment...
  14. Celiac is a disease that progresses over time, and the blood tests can only detect it once it has progressed far enough. TTG being positive is a fairly strong indication that you indeed have celiac, and probably the GI doc will want to take a biopsy of your small intestine to confirm. You might want to continue eating gluten until that's done, just in case...
  15. I'm not sure this is true, but maybe it's that you didn't absorb all of the caffeine before going gluten free? I don't know how caffeine is absorbed though so I'm not sure this would be it. I have a similar reaction to big amounts of caffeine, but I've learned to recognize what my limit is, and as long as I don't exeed it, I can have some. I prefer tea...
  16. Ooh, that's good news! I have no idea what our time difference is...maybe the doctors appointment has been already. I'll be rooting for you over here, though! Pauliina
  17. I just wanted to add... don't scare yourself in advance! You're not homeless yet are you? So don't go on worrying and worrying about it, instead go and look into the public housing thing... or is it possible to find new room mates? You never know, you might find a new place before your room mates even move, and then all the worrying will be for nothing. ...
  18. DarkIvy, good luck with the gluten and testing! I hope you won't get too ill and... well this sounds odd but I almost hope you do get a positive test result! Because then you have confirmation and a doctor backing your diet up. Cool that your family is so supportive. Mine is too, even though I don't have an official diagnosis. It's so obvious that...
  19. I'd forgotten... I did eat a very protein oriented diet in the beginning and that really helped. Nowadays I can tolerate carbs better, I don't know why. Though I still like to at least have a little protein in every meal, otherwise I find I get hungry much quicker, even though I don't exactly crash any more. Even now, I very often will have meals of just...
  20. As far as I know calcium pills wouldn't especially help your stomach... better save your money. Are you still having stomach pains, or is it just the inadequate bm's that you're worried about? You said you felt better with yoghurt, and I was thinking that maybe what you need is some good bacteria in your gut, which is what yoghurt has, which might be why...
  21. A different look at this... you haven't been gluten free all that long. Three months into gluten free, I was still quite often tired. It has slowly gotten better, and now, after two and a half years, I feel pretty normal. I'm not saying you shouldn't look into this, but if you don't find anything obviously wrong, it might just be that you need more time to...
  22. Celiac is not an allergy but a different kind of process in the body. If you were diagnosed with an allergy test you don't know whether you have celiac or not. The way to officially diagnose celiac is with a few different blood tests called the celiac panel and a biopsy of the small intestine. That said, I would take a wheat allergy seriously. An allergic...
  23. I'm afraid that's just not true. If you read at bit on the parent site, celiac.com, there might be some articles about testing. Of course, if you have a lot of damage to your intestine already it won't all heal in a month. But you do have a bigger risk of a false negative result, and if your tests come back inconclusive, what are you going to do? ...
  24. That's so sweet! I'm laughing about the picture of a toilet... Pauliina
  25. One thought - celiac develops over time, so it's possible to have negative test results one year and then positive ones a couple years later. A negative test result for celiac is not valid for life! Pauliina
