Good to know. I was actually just in Westport today. Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Decicco's Market
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry, I new it was relatively close over the Tappan Zee. Yeah, I knew you had mentioned they had a few products at that one. It seems the Ardsley one has the most gluten-free selection. -
ARCHIVED Decicco's Market
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For those that live in NY (or the surrounding areas), I wanted to let you know about my new official favorite place on earth. DeCicco's Market in Ardsley. They have a huge gluten free section, but not your average gluten free section. They carry to name a few: Grainless Baker, Kinnickinick, Celiac Specialties, Joan's gluten-free Great Bakes, Conte's, Namaste... -
ARCHIVED The New Kinnikinnick Waffles
jkmunchkin replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love these! I posted about them when I tried them back in the Spring at a vendor fair, but I think they have just become available. I have 2 boxes in my freezer - plain and brown sugar -
ARCHIVED Christmas Eve/christmas Menus
jkmunchkin replied to Green12's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've never hosted Christmas before (particularly because I'm Jewish), but my husband is Roman Catholic. Before I met him Christmas consisted of Chinese food and movies (aka Jewish Christmas), but now I celebrate both Chanukah and Christmas. We always go to his grandma's house for Christmas Eve and his parents house Christmas day. Which is pretty much... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed With Ciliacs In Nyc
jkmunchkin replied to Amy.F's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Amy, Like Mamaw said, you are lucky to be in NY. I also live in NY (live in Westchester, work in NYC) and I always say I can't imagine living anywhere else with this. Check out this link for a bunch of restaurants in NY with gluten-free menus. Open Original Shared Link You can do a quick search on here where myself and others have recommended... -

ARCHIVED Long Island Restaurants
jkmunchkin replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Mama's in Oakdale is one of my favorite restaurants (and I live in Westchester). I Love Gluten Cafe is in Wantagh (but in my opinion, not that great). Other than PF Chang's and Outback those are the only ones I can think of, but I know there is a bbq place also in Westbury (something with Dave's in the name) that is very aware of gluten. And there... -
ARCHIVED Company Christmas Party
jkmunchkin replied to Kathy'sUnicorns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
IMO unless you are out of town, the company Christmas party is not optional. Like others have said, just eat beforehand or have snacks with you to munch on, on your way home and go have a good time -
ARCHIVED Gingerbread Cookies?
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I do! And I kept meaning to check it to see if it had a recipe for GB cookies, but would always remember at times like this when I'm at work and can't check and I forget by the time I get home. Something tells me there is a recipe in there -
ARCHIVED Gingerbread Cookies?
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love her book. I actually emailed her to find out if she had a gingerbread cookie recipe and she said she has had several requests for this and was maybe going to work on it. Actually one of the big reasons I want to make the gingerbread cookies is because one of my brother in laws requested I make the coconut cake (from her book ofcourse) for Christmas... -
ARCHIVED Gingerbread Cookies?
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks Coleen. Can I make this using my regular flour mix (I use the one from Annalise Roberts), or does it need to be this flour mix specifically? -
Glad to help. Make sure you go to Risotteria. This is a must for every celiac in NYC

NY is celiac heaven There aren't any restaurants right by Rockefeller Center that have a gluten free menu, but there are tons of options. For a quick bite for lunch there is Hale & Hearty in Rockefeller Center (they have soup & salad). All the ingredients for their soup is on the back of the card with the name of the soup, and you can just...

ARCHIVED Cafe Formaggio - Gluten Free Pizza
jkmunchkin replied to Ms. Celiac's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
No, put I'm definately going to find out about this. My inlaws live in Manhassett and we always go to Outback in Westbury with them. This would be great. Edited: I just called to find out if they have gluten free pizza, and the person I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about, asked someone else and said no. Sorry. -
Does anyone have a recipe for gingerbread cookies? I thought I had found one, but I must not have printed it out and now I can't find it again. I don't think think it was on this site.

You might want to try Fiddle Faddle's recipe, as Matzah Meal is not gluten-free.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Ravioli & Pierogies
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, all of their products are not gluten free. The gluten free ones are clearly labeled gluten free. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Ravioli & Pierogies
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are they in the Uncle Giussipi's in Manhassett? I want to go check out Get Healthy America in Plainview anyway (the place on LI I had previously posted that I found had it), because they have blintzes; but my inlaws live in Manhassett so that would be even easier when we're out there. I didn't know Decicco's had a location in Rockland. Good to know. I... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Ravioli & Pierogies
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wanted to let everyone know about the absolutely AMAZING gluten free ravioli and pierogies I recently had. You can't tell the difference at all. They are sooooooo good! They are by a company called Conte's. Open Original Shared Link So far I have tried the cheese ravioli, the potato and onion pierogies and am going to get the spinach ravioli... -
ARCHIVED Kosher Gluten Free In Nyc?
jkmunchkin replied to jesscarmel's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well if you want to take metro north to Hartsdale in Westchester my dad's restaurant which is a kosher restaurant has a gluten free menu (but I have a feeling this is not on the itinerary). LOL! Bloom's, which is right near Grand Central has a gluten free menu. Although you may want to double check they are kosher and not just kosher style (depending on... -
I have to agree with blueeyedmanda. Maybe the reason you have been glutened twice in the last 4 days is because you think that you don't need to be worried about cross contamination. Once most people become gluten free, their sensitivity level to even the most minute amount of gluten becomes much higher. Chinese food is the one cuisine that I will not...

I'm thinking of asking for a slow cooker for the holidays. For those that have them, do you think I will use this or is this going to end up being one of those cooking gadgets that I get and never use? And for that matter, does anyone have any good recipes to recommend for it. I figure having some good recipes in mind would obviously make a difference...

ARCHIVED Chanukah Gelt
jkmunchkin replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure concerning the nut allergy, but I know Manischewitz Chanukah gelt is gluten free and I've also had the little bags of it you buy in the drugstore or wherever. -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Successes
jkmunchkin replied to mftnchn's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made both stuffing and pumpkin pie, and both came out great; especially the stuffing. Even te gluten eaters commented that it was really good. It actually tasted a lot like Stove Top stuffing. I used the recipe on Annalise Roberts' website and the sandwich bread from The Grainless Baker.
