Hi Jvhuff and Welcome to the Forum. Most restaurants do Not have a separate preparation area and that is where the risk comes in. The first question you should ask is if there is a prep area and decide from there if you will be safe. Good luck. Colleen

GF Lover replied to BelleVie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Bellvie, I hope you know that figs have a laxative effect and it sounds like you ate a lot of them. They will cause cramping and send you to the bathroom very quickly. Usually figs, like shredded cheese, is dusted with cellulose powder to prevent sticking together. Colleen -

GF Lover replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow POP. You are certainly going in the right direction. You do know that a tiny amount of people don't have the genes but have dx'd Celiac Disease. This could be YOU, just a thought. Your Doctor sounds like he's totally on board now and that's great. Keep us posted. Colleen -
Hi Graindamaged and Welcome to the Forum. I'm glad your Doctor is doing some more testing. Also, you may be Celiac and have an additional health issue. Are you taking an anti-inflammatory? There are also foods you can eat to fight inflammation. Do a quick google and you'll find lists of foods. Otherwise I think you just have to wait on testing. ...

Hi Kalokairi, and Welcome to the Forum. If you have searched the DH form you have probably come across posts by Squirmingitch. ARCHIVED 2 Weeks In...still Having The Big D...am I Expecting Too Much?
GF Lover replied to icelandgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My, 2 years so far, recovery took many stages. Some of us here were 25-30 years un-diagnosed so our recovery has been long and on-going. For me personally, the pain from eating every meal diminished first. Over the weeks and months migraines slowed down, skin sensitivity was more tolerable, body and joint pain became better. Over a year into it my brain... -
Wendy, Glad to hear you are giving it a shot. You have learned so much already and the corn intolerance is very difficult to deal with (just ask Barty) and so many processed foods have corn deriviitives. I'm not eating anything processed right now either (different reason) so we can do this together Colleen

ARCHIVED 2 Weeks In...still Having The Big D...am I Expecting Too Much?
GF Lover replied to icelandgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Those people need to know that this is not a quick fix. It takes months and possibly years to keep seeing improvements. You will begin to notice things that you didn't even know were adding to the sickness improve. Just make sure you don't have any underlying issues that may need additional if not temporary medical attention. I don't recall from your... -
Wendy, Why not consider just dropping all processed foods for now. You don't know that rice and beans are a problem for you. Many of us can't eat a lot of processed foods. I get some cookies once in a blue moon but I try to keep it all one ingredient food choices. This is much easier to do than cutting out items that you don't know if you have a problem...

ARCHIVED 2 Weeks In...still Having The Big D...am I Expecting Too Much?
GF Lover replied to icelandgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you changed appropriate Kitchen items ie: toaster, wooden items etc. Go over the Newbie 101 thread again. Also, you may still be healing. Did your endoscope show extensive damage? Are you taking a good probiotic? Hang in there, some things take longer to resolve if there has been more long term damage. Some of us still are seeing improvement over... -

ARCHIVED Problems With The School, Hipaa Release
GF Lover replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is a variation to the on-line School thing. My son does this and he is in his Senior year. His School is an option to the City School System. He goes 2 hours a day and does additional work at home on-line. They are completely flexible with the program. For instance, when the kids get a job, they work with those hours and coordinate school work... -

ARCHIVED Not Sure What I Have
GF Lover replied to glux's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Glux, In your initial post you mentioned Histamines. Have you considered doing a trial for a histamine intolerance? This could account for your itching. Many histamine blockers do not help this sufficiently. You can do a two week trial eating Histamine free (or as close as possible) to test it. Bananas and Chocolate have high histamines in them. ... -
